The mystery woman ran hysterically toward the couple. As always, her heart was telling her what to do and what to say. Her mind was taking the backseat for this one. Out of breathe she reached the gate just as they were boarding the last few people on the plane, who happened to be AJ and Destiny. She angrily grabbed his arm. He quickly turned around to face his so called attacker.
“What the heck?” he mumbled
“Funny, that’s exactly what I was thinking.” She snapped.
“Renity?” He asked using his nick name for her.
She just gave him and icy look.
“Serenity, what are you doing here?”
(AN: Yeah, I think AJ has a puppy named Serenity but I named this character before I knew about it lol so this has no connection to the puppy, it’s just a name. And it's kinda a sarcastic pun. You'll get it if you read on!)
“I came to see you. “
“Oh.” Was all he could say.
“Oh? AJ! I took a plane all the way from Orlando to come see you. You know how much I hate flying but I still did it for you. And all you can say is ‘oh’?”
“Sorry, guess I’m shocked. You never flew out to see me and we’ve known eachother since we were both in diapers.”
“Yeah I know but I had something to tell you.”
“I guess it’s really big.”
“It is.” She moved her glance from AJ to Destiny.
AJ noticed her eye movement.
“But now is not really the time. We have to board.”
“That’s okay, I’ll come with.” She said attaching herself to him.
“You have a ticket?”
“Yeah, well imagine...I came all the way here and in the mean time you were coming back to see me.”
“That wasn’t exactly the objective of this trip.”
“Oh it wasn’t?”
“I think you knew that.”
“All the papers said is that you’re going home to look for someone. I was guessing it was me because who else do you know in Florida?”
“Um I grew up there, three of us did and we know a lot of people there.”
“Oh. I was hoping it was me.” She said giving him the most pitiful look.
He shrugged it off. “C’mon lets just go.”
Serenity nodded. She took AJ’s hand, held it firmly and dragged him toward the restless stewardess. Destiny silently followed behind them. She had seen that AJ wasn’t really comfortable around Serenity. She found her as no threat just as a nag who is obviously not about to let go. Yet, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that maybe he had some sort of feelings for her. Maybe that weirdness between those two friend came from the fact that he was trying really hard to hide his feeling from her. She walked down the stairs lazily until she saw the bus starting to drive away. By the time she was downstairs it was well on his its way to the plane leaving to Miami, apparently without her.
“CRAP you have got to be kidding me!” Destiny stood there shocked.
“What’s wrong?” The stewardess asked as she walked down the narrow steps.
“What do you think happened? The bus just friggin left! CAN’T YOU SEE THAT?” Destiny felt her face redden.
“Ms, calm down. You can come with us on the crew vehicle.” She said pointing to a little vehicle that resembled a golf cart. Yes, it was that small.
The stewardess was amused from the look on Destiny’s face.
“Most of the crew is on the plane already, there are only 3 of us left. There’s no use in taking the van.”
“Oh okay.” She said as she calmed down a bit. “I didn’t mean to get mad at you, I was a bit shocked.”
“Understood and forgotten. We better get going though. Wouldn’t want the plane to leave without you too.”
Destiny laughed and followed the remaining crew to the vehicle.
The trip to the plane was very bumpy, to say the least. Destiny was relieved when she saw the plane. She stood up and thanked the crew. As she reached to top of the plane, she showed the stewardess her ticket. The stweardess pointed toward business class. Destiny knew very well that the boys would be in first class, with Serenity. She frowned then quietly sighed.
“It’s a long flight, I’ll figure something out.” She said as she tried to get comfortable in her seat.
“Serenity, are you sure that Destiny was on that bus?”
“Of course I’m sure, baby. Would I tell that driver to go if she wasn’t?”
“Yeah, I know sorry. I probably couldn’t see with all those people. You wouldn’t do that.”
“Is anyone sitting there?” She quickly changed the subject as she pointed to the seat next to AJ.
“Yeah, I think Nick is.”
“Well he’s not there, too bad.”
She carried her small backpack and placed it on the seat. Then she picked up Nick’s bag. A horrified look came to her face.
“Geez what IS he carrying in there?” She said as she let the bag drop in the middle of the aisle.
“Did you miss me?”
“What?” AJ asked baffled at her comment.
“Did you miss me? It’s not a very hard question.”
“Calm down Renity, Of course I missed you.” he turned so his back was facing her.
“What are you doing?” She turned him around.
“I was looking out of the window.”
“I saw that, why were you doing that?”
“Because I felt like it, Renity.”
“But I’m here. AJ listen, I need to talk to you.” Her face softened.
“Okay, about what?”
“You know last year?”
“What about last year?”
“You kissed me!”
“That was an accident, Serenity.”
“No it wasn’t!”
“Yes it was”
“Why do say that?”
“I thought you were Amanda.” He said referring to his ex girlfriend
“Why in the world would you think that?”
“I don’t know, maybe because you were wearing the exact same thing as her. AND MAYBE it was because it was frickin dark outside with not one light to tell me who you were. Listen, I’m sorry. But the minute I did kiss you I knew it wasn’t Amanda. I apologized and I told you it was a mistake! Why can’t you let it be?”
“Fine forget I even said anything.” A tear dropped from her eyes and slowly went down her cheek.
He saw the sight and felt lousy about it. He didn’t mean to yell at her. She was one of his best friends and he still cared for her deeply but she changed. And at this time in his life, he couldn’t deal with the change she made. She wasn’t the quiet, shy, kind girl he once knew. She became aggressive and even mean toward people she has known for years and people she just met. He felt as if she was claiming him. He wasn’t an object and he definitely wasn’t hers.
“Renity, I’m sorry.” He handed her a Kleenex from his bag. “ I didn’t mean that. I’m sorry I yelled at you okay baby?”
She smiled slightly. “Okay. But why won’t you just give us a chance?”
“There she goes with the word ‘us’ again.” AJ said quietly to himself.
“What?” She asked
Before he could answer they heard a big bang right next to them.
“DAMNITT what is my friggin bag doing in the middle of the aisle?”
“Um probably getting revenge because you filled it to its extremity” Brian said as he started cracking up.
Nick was flat on the floor.
“I’m sorry that was my fault.” Serenity said.
“What are you doing here.” He looked up at her
“I just came to see you guys.”
“Oh. forget about it.” He smiled as he got up. “I guess you want to sit here?”
She nodded.
“Okay next time just ask, don’t abuse me!”
“You got yourself a deal boy now hurry up to that seat over there.” She pointed to the seat across. Nick cringed at her slight change in attitude but moved his stuff toward that seat.
“Excuse me Mr?” Destiny asked the man sitting next to her.
“Yes?”
“Could you...mm never mind actually.” She said as she saw the approaching stewardess
.
She quickly moved the man’s arm and his orange juice spilled all over her shirt.
“OH MY GOD” she said loudly, trying her hardest to act mad.
“What seems to be the probably ma’am?”
“He spilled his orange juice on me! I’m sorry I can’t sit here! My seat is wet and...and my shirt and I’m traumatized!” She almost laughed at her own act.
“Well ma’am business class is full but I’m sure we can fit you in, in First Class. Follow me ma’am.”
“Do you mind if I change first?”
“Go ahead.”
She grabbed her small backpack that had a few clothes and a other favorite items of hers.
She turned to the man sitting next to her and whispered “Thank You.”
The man was confused but nodded.
She walked into the bathroom in order to change. She smiled to herself. Her plan worked.
