June 2, 2001 There is not much information on Perfect Dark 0, but what we have is enough for a tiny preview. Seeing as how the title of the game is 'Perfect Dark 0,' the game will take place before the original Perfect Dark. This might mean that Joanna won't be the star of the game. Developing the next PD game as a prequel will allow Rare to go back to the age of James Bond, creating life-like environments and weapons, instead of futuristic settings and guns. Many PD and 007 players will agree that the guns in GoldenEye are much more satisfying compared to the 'uninspired' weapons in Perfect Dark. Graphically, Rare has the ability and power to create ultra-realistic enemies and areas. We've already seen some of the Joanna GCN renders shown off at last year's Spaceworld. Did you notice the smooth hands and textures on her? Expect to see this level of quality in all the characters in the game. There won't be any more blocky hands and textures this time around! In terms of multiplayer, Perfect Dark 0 most likely WILL be online-compatible. Nintendo isn't saying much about their online strategy, but everyone knows that if Nintendo doesn't develop an awesome online community, Microsoft will take over this market. When PD0 does go online, you better believe that millions of PD fans across the globe will compete in online deathmatches. What about online Perfect Dark tournaments? Ever since gamers got to be play 007 against their friends, they've always wanted to compete against other fans from different parts of the world. Other modes of play that should be developed are online co-op and team battles. Being on a team with three other guys against four other people would be awesome. The username and password that you obtain after getting Perfect: 1 in the N64 version of Perfect Dark seems to correlate with 'Perfect Dark 0.' The suffix, 0, in 'Perfect Dark 0,' is also part of the password from Perfect Dark. Will these games somehow interrelate? Well, Rareware did mention that the username and password from Perfect Dark might be used in the next extension of the franchise. Will there be a computer terminal to use these at in PD0? Or will Rare juke us once again like they did with the whole 'Stop 'N' Swop' deal? No one knows yet. Perfect Dark 0 probably won't be available this year. Even though there are rumors of Rare dedicating half of its staff to produce this game, don't bet on seeing the game this year. Instead, the game will definitely show up in the middle part of 2002. |
