On this page I am sharing with you some photos I took of the Durham Miners Gala which was held on the 11th July 1998. It is the 114th Gala and it is still going strong today Two years later. Miners from all over the country and indeed from abroad participate in this big yearly event.
The air is electrifying with the sound of brass bands from every mining community that takes part and the bagpipes of the Scottish communities. Every community has their own banner and this turns Durham City into the most colourful and musical place to be on this day.
The Banner that you see on this page is the original banner of the village.Quite a lot of banners from years gone bye are being restored to their former glory. This will take time and money but one day we all hope to see all of the originals back on parade.
