The Pet Names of the Heart

Many people compare the things they love to different traditional objects...sugar, honey...I'm sure you've heard them all in the various stages of life.  Well what if your not a big fan of sugar?  What if the thought of consuming sticky liquid that comes from a bee makes you ill?  I have thought this concept through and come up with a few alternatives to the everyday pet names.  These fit myself much better. 

            You are running barefoot all day...with the sand between your feet and the mud squishing between your toes.  You are a long walk on the boardwalks of Rehobeth beach...a day full of rides at the amusement park, shopping in those odd little stores, and watching them make fudge in Dolly's Candy Kitchen.  You are signing online and talking to someone for hours without racking up huge phone bills.  You are a tiny baby, with sweet, fresh smelling hair and the cutest smile in the world, nestled in the crook of my arm.  You are a perfect hug...not too tight, but not too loose, held for just the right amount of time.  You are the feeling you get when you get a truly good compliment that you know is true, and not just made up to make you feel better about yourself.  You are an afternoon of looking at old baby pictures, and reminiscing about when your only care was coloring in the lines.  You are naiveté.  You are all the cool patterns stars make at night.  You are the swirling colors the sun makes in the morning.  You are that silvery color of nail polish that looks different on everyone.  You a clementine orange.  You are a Muppet Movies Marathon.  You are an hour of good, uninterrupted music.  You are the feeling you get when all your Christmas shopping is done and everything’s wrapped and you sit back and smile.  You are all this and more.
