"The Brown family records state that while a child Jacob lived in a small German settlement in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. ... Peter [Bowers] worked for Samuel Brown in his tannery and on his farm for several years. December 4, 1845, he wed Samuel's eldest daughter Mary. Samuel Brown's father was Jacob Brown. This ancestor emigrated from Germany. Jacob Brown's wife and mother of Samuel Brown was Elizabeth Ulrich, a prominent early German family." I have found few public re cords certainly dealing with this Jacob Brown and have not yet confirmed the he was an immigrant nor have I been able to show that this is in conflict with being the son of Henr(d)y Brown. However, the 1850 census reports that Jacob was born in Pennsylvania.
Jacob Brown, said to be the son of Hendry/Henry Brown, was born 24 Aug. 1779 (based upon tombstone date) and he lived in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, where he married Elizabeth Ulrich/Ullery, born 8 April 1781, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Brumbaugh) Ulrich. They probably married 1799-1800. The 1800 census of Bedford County lists two Jacob Browns, of whom the younger was age 16-26 and his household contained one female age 16-2 6 and one female less than 10. The 1810 census shows a Jacob Brown, ag e 26-45, living alone in Woodberry Township. On 19 April 1813, letters of administration on the estate of Rinehart Replogle were granted to John Holsinger and Jacob Brown, with Henry Snider and James M. Russell as sureties. On 19 Dec 1815, John Holsinger and Jacob Brown were granted lette rs of administration on the estate of Catherine Replogle, with Theodore Snowberger and Jacob Bonnett as sureties.
The 1820 census shows Jacob, age more than 45, wife, age 26-45 [Eliza beth], two boys less than 10 [George, John, Daniel?], two boys age 10-1 6 [Jacob, Henry], one boy age 16-26 [Samuel], two girls less than 10 [Eli zabeth?, Mary?], one girl age 10-16 [Hannah], and one girl age 16-26 [Sar ah].
