I recently received an email about an anti-war with Iraq petition. The people sending this are goodhearted people but are far too naive. I did not forward the petition and this was the response I sent to every previous recipient.
I know war sucks and most people will disagree with this but the fact is Saddam Hussein is a mad man and allowing him to remain in control of an army let alone a country is insane. He has used biological weapons on his own people in northern Iraq and his refusal to follow UN sanctions force the world to boycott trade with Iraq leaving thousands starving. If not stopped he will eventually, although slowly, build up weapons of mass destruction and use them for his personal wants. Correct Islam in not the enemy, it is not because Hussein is Muslim that he is evil, it is his action and his lies. Do you really think he is a pious Muslim? The Koran (spelled many ways) teaches against murder without just cause. It is really a religion of tolerance but that is not the point here. The point is not oil or political bullshit. The point is simple a man is killing his own people, intends to kill more, would love to kill you or I, and no one else is willing to stop him but us. War is not a first response but after 10 years enough is enough. Hitler slowly built up an army, took over neighbors, killed millions of Jews. This is what happens when evil is left alone to do whatever it wishes. I will leave you with 2 quotes from Teddy Roosevelt, "In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing." and "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to sit and do nothing."
