Wanderer above the Sea of Fog 1818; Oil on canvas, 94 x 74.8 cm; Kunsthalle, Hamburg
The German romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich, b. Sept. 5, 1774, d. May 7, 1840, was one of the greatest exponents in European art of the symbolic landscape.
I saw many paintings of Friedrich in Berlin and his perfection is unbelievable. Yet, it is a cool kind of perfection, even in his warm coloured paintings you feel a distance that does not attract.
Well, these are my words... (lol).

Norman Rockwell, The Soda Fountain, from the Saturday Evening Post 8/22/53. This may or may not fit in the Gallery, but I think Mr. Rockwell had great talent. I enjoy looking at his pictures, they are so real. I found this written about him:
The pictures of NORMAN ROCKWELL (1894-1978) were recognized and loved by almost everybody in America. The cover of The Saturday Evening Post was his showcase for over forty years, giving him an audience larger than that of any other artist in history. Over the years he depicted there a unique collection of Americana, a series of vignettes of remarkable warmth and humor. In addition, he painted a great number of pictures for story illustrations, advertising campaigns, posters, calendars, and books.

The Child's Bath, Mary Cassatt. 1891; Oil on canvas, 39 1/2 x 26 in; The Art Institute of Chicago. A very soothing painting to me.
Shakespeare wrote a long poem about this subject.
