A coded message was carved across the very bottom: ILYEA

Richard Leakey (one of Louis' other sons) suggested that Rosalie Osborn (with whom Louis had an alleged affair), put the gravestone there, for she signed her letters to Louis "I'll Love You Ever Always."
She later admitted to doing so.
