Weekly Update
This page will contain weekly updates on the progress of Historic Suffolk County 2004
Check back each Friday, beginning in late February for the latest news on this year's event!
APRIL 26, 2004
- Web issues at the office and my own overextended schedule have prevented me from updating more frequently. Following are some of the irons in the fire:
- Astoria Federal Savigs is definitely going to be our sponsor!
- The author, Vivian Farrell who wrote, Robert's Tall Friend a book about the Fire Island Lighthouse, will be making an appearance at the event.
- Waldenbooks at the SmithHaven Mall may be hosting a book signing for Ms. Farrell.
- I've given Ms. Fostel and her graphics designer permission to use the same photos we used on last years' poster in their design for this year's.
- Lindenhurst, Copiague, and West Babylon school districts have all contacted me regarding details for the Student Display Contest.
- We have a new Planning Committee Member - Tom Curr of the East Islip Historical Society.
APRIL 1, 2004
- Apologies for the long time between updates!
- Ms. Carolyn Fostel of ASTORIA FEDERAL SAVINGS, contacted me yesterday and it looks as though they may be willing to fund the event this year. In addition, if this goes forward, they will provide graphics support for our posters/bookmarks/brochures.
- Kathy Then is continuing the hunt for an author to appear at the event. We are leaning toward a children's author to encourage school group participation.
- I'd like to ask Committee Members to consider finding contributors of prizes for the student display contest.
- Anyone interested in going on a site visit to SmithHaven in May?
- That's all for now folks! Please stay in touch.
FEBRUARY 27, 2004
- Welcome to our new Planning Committee Member, Professor Susan Hinely. Susan is a faculty member in the History Department at SUNY Stony Brook.
- In May I will be contacting Smith Haven about making a site visit and at that time they will provide paperwork and information regarding insurance requirements, etc.
- Next week, I will be contacting our two funders from last year's event to inquire about funding for this year.
- If anyone has a suggestion for funding possibilities, contact me.
