The Coca Soda Mystery! Now… The mystery of the disappearing Coca Soda!
When I finally got another copy of RE2 last year I was rather surprised by the fact that the Coca Soda machines I remembered were different. How odd. o.o
Now I was confused with this via many LP’s and screenshots anyway. But I guess I wasn’t thinking about that when I finally got a chance to play again. You see, I very clearly remembered this. So what happened? The soda machines seem to have been altered between the standard and dual shock versions.
First a screenshot:
It’s either Cho Cho Cola or Cho Cha Cola. You can’t see the second word clearly. This would be the only soda machine you actually get to see in the playable demo. It’s in the conference room. Note the white cursive on the red background on the logo at the bottom. The red Coke-like can imposingly blocking your way back to planet Earth.
Here’s another screen of a smaller Cho Cho Cola machine from the Biohazard 2 Trial Edition Mod that I was talking about earlier:
Note how the beta equipped handgun pose sorta makes it look like he’s praying for the zombies he just put out of their misery. Aww how sweet.
Barry: But TAKE a LOOK at THIS!
The Coca Soda machine from the RE2 demo. It’s the room beyond the STARS office that you need the L key for. So I got here with Gameshark codes. Not sure if NA or PAL version since I didn’t specify that when I took the shots. But the room is the same either way.
The can is blue but the logo is practically the same as Coca Cola. You can’t beat the real thing. o.o
Dual Shock version. Same room.
And finally, the Coca Soda sign on the B route to the RPD:
That shot is from the Biohazard 2 Trial Edition Mod. The B route is made accessible here.
Now here’s the same screen from the standard version.
As you can see the sign has been replaced by another Paul’s Burgers sign.
I’ve never had the GH version of this game because I initially got RE2 around it’s release date. But I wonder if the changes were present even then.
Just a little oddity that I wanted to point out.
*update* I heard Coca Cola did indeed get mad and Capcom had to remove the offending graphics.
