Fun With The Ocarina Of Time Debug ROM: Part 2

Through use of the inventory editor you can change the amount of rupees, hearts, keys and items you have as well as adjust equipment and upgrades. This also allows child Link to use some things he normally can’t using an age switching trick. Adult Link can use the boomerang but not much else. For c items, just assign what you want then press L+R+Z to go back to the map list. Then change Link’s age and enter whatever map you like. This allows the Link of one age to use items restricted to another in certain cases.

Now if you want child Link to wear the Goron or Zora Tunic, wear Iron or Hover Boots or have an invisible shield, just select adult Link then go to a map and enter the status screen and equip whatever. This seems to work in 1964 best. Although you might need to save first. 1964 doesn’t always run great for me so I haven’t used it as much. I find that on Project 64 I cannot access the map list. So I saved and soft reset the emulator after equipping the Link of my choice so I could switch to another. The memory pak must be selected on the configure controller screen though.

While you could use Gameshark codes for this, to get all the equipment via the inventory editor just press pause the game then press L to bring it up.

This is the screen you want. You edit the values where the cursor is. All 7’s means all swords, shields, tunics and boots. You use the c buttons to change values. You’ll have to play with it a bit to get the numbers you want. This is an example image I took. For reference, those values give you the Kokiri and Master Swords and the Giant’s Knife (you can’t get Biggoron’s Sword this way), Mirror Shield, Goron and Zora Tunics, Kokiri and Hover Boots. Try many different combinations.

Some notes about the Giant’s Knife: You’ll find a few values that yield odd results, such as a Giant’s Knife that appears broken on the status screen but isn’t broken when adult Link wields it. I think you may have to break it yourself during gameplay. I broke it then saved and now although I still have the icon of the intact Giant’s Knife it is broken for me and all values I try result in the same broken sword regardless of what the icon looks like. Strange. There are also a couple of values that make the Giant’s Knife both broken and uequippable. I’m not sure why this is, but it might have something to do with the fact that the icon is the same as the broken Biggoron’s Sword.

Child Link in the Goron Tunic. Done via the age switching trick that I mentioned above. And yes I have extra hearts. I was playing around with collecting the pieces in the game after maxing my hearts via the inventory editor.

As you can see there’s no timer. The tunic is fully functional.

Also works with the Zora Tunic. Child Link can stay underwater indefinitely. While it appears as if he’s wearing Kokiri boots I used the age switching trick to give him iron boots. Child Link won’t be shown wearing boots other than his default Kokiri Boots. However you can clearly see the effects of the boots you gave adult Link on him.

Now let's play with giant knives...

The Giant’s Knife on the status screen. Note that’s it’s actually the Master Sword in appearance. I haven’t tried getting Biggoron’s Sword yet, but I assume it’s the same effect. The sword can break just like a normal Giant’s Knife, but the only way you’ll know is if the spin attack no longer works. When you do this attack as child Link the sword glow from the charge appears in front and is as large as the Giant’s Knife. I’ve seen pics of child Link with this sword before so it’s nothing new. Still looks cool though. Also, you can see the other equipment I’ve given him here. Note that he’s shieldless because the Mirror Shield is equipped and thus is invisible.

Link holding the Giant’s Knife (to avoid confusion I won’t call it the Master Sword since that is not what is selected). I went onto the red roof for a better shot. When child link is standing normally or moving with this sword, part of the blade goes through the ground. The way he’s holding it seems to be the animation from when you pull out the Master Sword.

The Giant’s Knife held to the side while crouching with R. I think Link looks like a ninja here.

One more shot from the back.
