Fun with Ocarina of Time: Texture pack fail


I uploaded this to Tumblr along with the OoT debug ROM stuff. But for some reason the texture pack fail entry never made it here. Well here it is now. It's never too late to be late! XP

This is mostly just a cut and past of the Tumblr entry with some updated text.

I had some amusing texture pack fail. I had some trouble getting all the Wind Waker textures to load. So I searched for some answers and found a suggestion for compressing textures. The results were interesting. I think blue Link has been shown before elsewhere so it’s nothing new. Still funny though.


He’s blue as you can see. I believe this is a texture compression issue. I was later able to semi-fix it. But unfortunately the Wind Waker textures weren't applied to all of the graphics for some reason. :/



I changed the tunic color to white and now he looks like Smurfette’s long lost twin brother. Where has Gargamel been hiding him?



In some lighting and poses her eyes look more red, especially during the cutscene where she gives Link the fairy ocarina. They’re bright red. Scary Saria just doesn't fit. It's like some forbidden creepypasta or something.



As if she wasn’t creepy before. Now she looks like some sort of freakish Animal Crossing glitch or something. There are many other characters that end up with flesh tone noses and/or ears while the rest of their skin is blue. I didn’t check them all out or take other pics though. I believe this has something to do with the way textures are handled on the character models' faces. Grog was particularly odd looking and young Malon reminded me of a young Neifirst, if she had a flesh colored nose and ears.

That's it. I wish I had taken more pics because I'm not sure if I could repeat this.
