March 17, 2003 - erin go bragh
The weekend trip went well overall. VC made it to finals and got 5th, so that's good. As for my big plans for this Irish festival... there will be no corned beef or green beer coming my way. Instead, I'm getting up early and going shopping for a car. Hopefully I'll have more luck with it this time than I did when I last searched for an automobile. What beter day for luck than today, I guess. Although, I have no Irish blood in me actually, so I don't know how much use I'll get out of the "luck of the Irish," or so they say. Happy Birthday Jen!

Oh, and I have yet another Ross Quiz up.

March 18, 2003 - war is fast approaching
Well, obviously the biggest news of the moment is the approaching war with Iraq. I used to be completely against it and criticized the government for trying to go war. Then I started rethinking that and began riding the fence for a while. But now that is actually brewing, and very well may be happening in the next couple days, I am driven to support Bush and the war. Not because I don't see reasons for NOT going to war, but because I see reason for Sadam to be driven out of that country, for one. And for two, as an American, I live in a country with an elected president who does what he feels is best for all the people. And while Dubya isn't all that eloquent, I do think he's fighting for right. He is disregarding some issues and concerns, which I don't like, but I will undoubtedly support our troops in Iraq if and when we attack.

Quote of the Day - George W. Bush

"In this century, when evil men plot chemical, biological and nuclear terror, a policy of appeasement could bring destruction of a kind never before seen on this earth. Terrorists and terrorist states do not reveal these threats with fair notice in formal declarations. And responding to such enemies only after they have struck first is not self defense. It is suicide. The security of the world requires disarming Saddam Hussein now."
March 19, 2003 - more about war
Man, this big show stuff is getting to me. I like doing it and all, but that the moment, I can't wait until Saturday when it's over. While some people like drama in an acting aspect and therefore join the play, others seem to just center their lives around drama in general. Not acting drama, like unsatisfied always-have-something-to-be-upset-about kind of drama. And it's frustrating to be around it, hence why I tend to isolate myself. People take things WAY too personally and WAY too seriously sometimes. If only people could let things go and get past certain issues, they could start enjoying life more. I dunno. That's my two cents at least.

The other side of yesterday's coin... whether or not the war is more about oil or freedom, I just think LOTR is sweet.

Quote of the Day - Jimi Hendrix

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace."
March 20, 2003 - opening night
War is upon us. You know the drill. 'Nuff said about that. In other news, Big Show starts tonight. Hopefully it won't be too shaky. And I was supposed to be getting my car today, but the CD player they put in for some reason wasn't compatible or wasn't working, so they ordered another yesterday and said that it should be ready by tomorrow. Not much else to say today, except that stubborn people bug me.

The anti-peace rallies have begun in Washington...

Quote of the Day - John Stuart Mill

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
March 21, 2003 - bombs over baghdad
Friday's finally here. As busy as this week was, it wasn't so much drudgery in retrospect. It went by really fast. As for last night's show, it went pretty well. A few rough edges of course, but that happens in all shows I guess. I had a very tranquil ride home, catching a glimpse of the blurry sight of a bright moon through opaque clouds. Sounds almost poetic, eh? Speaking of which, I must write a sonnet by Monday, so I best be getting to that!

"Shock and Awe"... I admit that Iraq deserves freedom, but hopefully we won't kill all the Iraqis in the process of freeing them.  Right now, I'm just hoping for a swift end to this war so that the long and arduous reconstruction can begin.

March 22, 2003 - awe-ful relaxation
It's the last night of Guys and Dolls today. I remember back in the day when they did two weekends of Big Show. I guess there just wasn't enough interest as far as audiences go to continue that tradition. I think I'm in desperate need for a peaceful awe-filled night. And not like Dubya's kind of "awe"... like the awe I felt years ago when Scott, Brian, and I just sat on Scott's pool deck, not really saying much, but just taking in the beautiful sight of the midnight sky. Now that's what I call awe.

Well, I figured I should take a break from all the war IOTDs, and seeing as today is one month from Winterfest, what a more appropriate image than this one.

Poem of the Day - T.S. Eliot

Footfalls echo in the memory,
Down the passage which we did not take,
Towards the door we never opened.
