June 22, 2003 - the beginning of the end of the beginning
Well, this is the last week of the first year of therosser.com's existence... I'm working on picking out the best of the best and putting together a Year One showcase. I look back at some of my entries and think, "Man, what the hell was I thinking?" I guess that's another benefit of this site... Because I have everything archived, I can't deny the past, and therefore I am forced to face it. Accepting that I thought wrong then allows me to keep a more open mind on what I think now. Anyways, I'm off to get ready for a few more graduation parties today. More tomorrow.

June 23, 2003 - plane and simple directions
Steve-O's graduation party is this Friday; Be there or be square! It's at Lost Nation Airport from 5 P.M. until whenever people leave. To get there, pretend like you're going to Mentor Mall, but get off one exit earlier on the freeway. That is, take Route 2 East, then get off at the Lost Nation exit. From the exit, turn right onto Lost Nation Rd., then go down Lost Nation until you see the airport on the right. It's not hard to find at all, I assure you. (Even I can find my way there, and I have no navigation abilities whatsoever.)

"Create your own personal and private community, where you can interact with people who are connected to you through networks of mutual friends."

Interesting concept, though the server isn't all that stable. If you sign up for it, add me as your friend! (My listed e-mail is therosser@msn.com)

June 24, 2003 - movieing right along
In the past week or so, I've seen quite a few movies... Among them, Hulk, Men with Brooms, and About Schmidt. I admit, they weren't the greatest movies in the world... okay, maybe they weren't even very good at all. But something about even bad movies makes me want to finish them if I start them. I don't know what it is that draws me to them, maybe it's the fact that for a couple hours, you can focus on someone else's life, and it's like yours disappears... or perhaps I just like not having to do anything but sit there when I watch a movie... or it could be that I just appreciate the collective efforts of those who took part in making the film, and I want to see the results of that effort. Nonetheless, I stray from the point. I have recently noticed that is hard for me to not like a movie. In fact, the only movie that comes to mind when I think of a truly bad movie is Daredevil. Well, yeah... just an observation of my character. That's all for now.

This one's from the Cellar. It's a shot the world's smallest guitar, which measures 10 micrometers in length. For comparison, the diameter of a human hair is about 200 micrometers.

Movie Quote of the Day - Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

Charlie places the Everlasting Gobstopper on Mr. Wonka's desk.

June 25, 2003 - play with my oompa loompas
Saw Alex & Emma last night... Generally, I liked it. I've always been a fan of slightly girly movies, I guess. Hmm.. what else to say today? I've been out of school for over a month now, and time sure is flying by this summer. It won't be long until I'm packing my bags and taking the 20 minute journey to Case. I'm really looking forward to kind of "getting out on my own" so-to-speak. However, despite the fact that I'm anxious to go to college, I really do want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the last two-thirds of my summer. More tomorrow.

Today's update goes out to Mike Zudic... I spent several classes with him at high school, and we've had quite a few laughs. He left today to be in the Air Force, Academy and all... hence the dedication.

June 26, 2003 - the future's past
If you could go back a few years, what advice would you give yourself? Would you tell yourself to take more chances? To be more careful? To avoid certain bad experiences you've gone through? How would your life be different now if you could go back and warn yourself of what's to come? If you hadn't done certain things, would your life be better off now? How would you know? Perhaps "bad experiences" helped (or are building up to help) shape you into who you really are...If your future self came back to now to give you advice, would you want to hear it? Furthermore, if you from a few years ago came forward to see you now, would they kick your ass? (That last one was inspired by the movie Mr. Deeds.)

Lyrics of the Day - "Go With The Flow" by Queens of the Stone Age

I want something good to die for
To make it beautiful to live.
I want a new mistake...
June 27, 2003 - let's party, party, party tonight
I always am very curious when I talk to new people... Sure, I'm curious about their lives and preferences and beliefs and all that, but even more, I'm curious about what a person's first impression of me is. I've always wondered how I "come off" to others. And speaking of meeting people.... if anyone's interested in meeting some new people, or if you're interested in meeting people you already know, come to Steve-o's graduation party today! 5-whenever, be there or be somewhere else! (Directions in my June 23rd update).

Dave Barry Definition of the Day

Turbulence: This is what pilots announce that you have encountered when your plane strikes an object in midair. You'll be flying along, and there will be an enormous, shuddering WHUMP, and clearly the plane has rammed into an airborne object at least the size of a water buffalo, and the pilot will say, "Folks, we're encountering a little turbulence." Meanwhile they are up there in the cockpit trying desperately to clean water buffalo organs off the windshield.
June 28, 2003 - the downs make the ups feel higher
Steve-o's party last night was quite a blast... I spent 7 hours at the airport without getting bored. I got to chat with a few people I haven't talked to in a while, which was very cool. Thanks for throwing a great bash, Steveman.

Onto my anecdote of the day... I went to sleep last night deciding that under no circumstances would I mow the lawn today. When I woke up, I still didn't feel like mowing the lawn. However, as I went to my kitchen to get a glass of iced tea, I realized that the iced tea would be infinitely more refreshing if I was hot, tired, and sweaty. Without further contemplation, I decided that I would mow the lawn so that I could enjoy my drink.
