June 29, 2003 - one year and counting
It's official! This blog has been around for an entire year. I have put together a page of my favorite entries, IOTDs, and "of the day"s... You can find that on the Best of Year 1 page. I have to figure out how I'm going host this site from now on... Angelfire gives me a 20 MB account limit, and I'm at 19.5 already. So yeah, this site may not be functioning normally for a bit until I get it situated somewhere else. And yes, I will put my mates section up at some point... I should never have deleted the first one; now I have a half-put together one that I never manage to finish. Oh, and the logo above is made up of several pictures of me, though you probably can't identify them very well.

Quote of the Day - Henry Austin Dobson

Time goes, you say?  Ah no!
Alas, Time stays, we go.

June 30, 2003 - head problems
I've been feeling a lot of anxiety lately, and I'm not sure why... I have like a million thoughts in my head at any given time, I can't sleep, I don't eat, and I keep getting these headaches and stuff. (Sounds healthy, eh?) Minutes pass me by like they're seconds, and I'm not sure what the deal is; perhaps I just need to take some time to relax. Maybe I'm nervous about college or something... At the moment, I don't really want to go yet; I just want to have a few months off. Unfortunately, I won't have that luxury, since orientation is in about six weeks. Alright, I'm going to go for now, more later.

Interesting Fact of the Day

"I can't believe it's not butter" was originally marketed as "I can't believe it's not Hitler".

July 1, 2003 - get out of jail free
It's the first of the month yet again, and I really don't know where June went! The month passed by as if it were a week. But alas, I will keep pressing on through these week-like months... I am in pretty high spirits at the moment; My sister Marie returned from her jail experience today. Now that she's back, it doesn't even feel like she's been gone. I asked her what she missed the most besides her family and friends... She said "Doors." She also missed being able to open her mail herself; One of the mail-inspectors at the prison recognized my parents from pictures that they sent my sister. And since my parents picked her up and the jail didn't have to provide a way home, my sister was given $10 as a parting gift.

Quote of the Day - Abraham Lincoln

"The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just."

July 2, 2003 - happy birthday steve!
It's Steve's Birthday for the second time on therosser... In celebration of this great holiday, I have added a song to the download page! (I also removed the songs that were on there, because I'm working on saving space.) But yeah, let me take a moment to reflect on my friendship with Steve. First, I'll say we don't bash heads very often. I may get on his nerves once in a while, but he's always been someone I can count on. I'll never forget the time I needed a pair of swim trunks and he road his bike to my house just to deliver them. He's quite the loyal friend, to say the least. As far as his personality goes, while sometimes he comes off as anti-social, he just prefers more active experiences... He's very resourceful, and very "handy"... and as Scott might say, Steve is just a "genuinely good guy". So yeah, that's Steve in a nutshell.

Quote of the Day - Anais Nin

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."

July 3, 2003 - you say you want a revolution
So I spent a while yesterday at Steve-o's playing Dance Dance Revolution... Man, that game is addicting! (I hope we have room for it in our dorm)... As for today, it's been a good day so far. We got to leave work early and we were taken out to lunch at Olive Garden... It was a good time; and hell, I'll take a complimentary meal any time. On the way back, Steve and I had a discussion about rudeness and being inconsiderate and stuff, and just respect in general. At times, I feel like I can be very disrespectful to people without thinking about it... Perhaps I ought to try to think of others first. Anyways, that's all for now.

I just thought this would make an "eggcellent" image of the day...

Lyrics of the Day - "No More" from Into The Woods, via Becky

Where are we to go, where are we ever to go?
Running away, we'll do it,
Why sit around resigned?
The trouble is, son, the farther you run,
The more you feel undefined...
For what you have left undone,
And more, what you've left behind.

July 4, 2003 - hey hey hey, it's independence day
I've reached a new low... Last night, I dreamt of talking on AIM. I had an entire conversation while I was sleeping, flashing AIM windows and all. Ah well, I won't let it get to me too much, since it's my favorite holiday and all. Maybe I just love the Fourth of July because of the fireworks, but hell, fireworks on any other day don't really seem like they have quite the "bang" as those on Independence Day. Hopefully now that I have my camera, I can get some decent shots of the fireworks in all their glory. I'm out for now, but before I go, Happy Fourth to everyone out there!

Quote of the Day - William Lloyd Garrison

"I will be as harsh as truth, and as uncompromising as justice. On this subject, I do not wish to think, or speak, or write with moderation.... I am in earnest - I will not equivocate - I will not retreat a single inch - and I will be heard."

July 5, 2003 - things that go BOOM in the night
Man, the fireworks yesterday were awesome. The best part of any fireworks display is the finale... During the finale, everything disappears...the heat, the bugs, the people around you. It's just you and the seemingly neverending blasts in the sky... so many fireworks go off that you can feel their explosions in your body. It's as if they are saying, "Hey! Wake up, dude!" or something, jump starting you to a better attitude in life. Heh, okay...maybe I'm reading a bit too much into this. No words can describe the feeling of watching those fireworks, so I'll stop now.

Oh!, and the current logo was made by Kevin Miklavcic, so thanks to him for that! (btw, feel free to send me a logo if you are bored enough to make one! ross@therosser.com)

Excerpt of the Day - A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift

"I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled; and I make no doubt that it will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout."
