July 6, 2003 - bring on the rain
After reading becky's blog and thinking about how much I enjoy storms, Mother Nature has been teasing me for the past couple days. Last night, around 12:20, there was a 3-minute downpour and that was that. Today, it's been thundering quite a bit, but I have yet to see rain pouring down in all its glory. Despite the fact that I really don't spend all that much time outside, I've always been intrigued by much of the natural world... mostly 'dangerous' things or the unknown... storms, tornadoes, lightning, the deep, dark oceans, the vast galaxies above.

Twenty-four years ago, an attempt was made to move the Statue of Liberty to Wisconsin. It had been flown in by helicopter, but as it traveled over Lake Mendota, the cable holding Lady Liberty snapped and the statue crashed through the ice...Only the top of her head and her arm remained above water.

Lyrics of the Day - "As Long As I Have You" by Elvis Presley

Let the stars fade and fall,
And I won't care at all,
As long as I have you.
July 7, 2003 - infinity in a finite life
It's been a slow day for me... I remembered today how easily distracted I can get. It's not that I don't find things interesting and therefore start to focus on other things; it's more that I'm just curious by nature. When I was little, my mom had to tie a string to my arm to keep me from wandering off and exploring. Anyway. Today I began thinking about mortality and death yet again. Life is so...finite sometimes. But I guess that's why we have indescribable feelings and experiences... See, it's those feelings and experiences that can't be fully understood nor explained with even an infinite amount of words in an infinite amount of years (on an infinite amount of typewriters, using an infinite amount of typing monkeys). Basically, emotion gives us the infinity we lack in lifespan.

"Drawing Hands" by M.C. Escher, 1948.

Quote of the Day - Blaise Pascal

"For after all what is man in nature? A nothing in relation to infinity, all in relation to nothing, a central point between nothing and all and infinitely far from understanding either. The ends of things and their beginnings are impregnably concealed from him in an impenetrable secret. He is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness out of which he was drawn and the infinite in which he is engulfed."
July 8, 2003 - it's a date
It's a pretty slow news day today; the only thought on my mind at the moment is the fact that exactly six years from now, it will be 07/08/09... hmm, who else besides Americans write the date mm/dd/yy? I know that in some places, people put the day before the month, but I don't know which places use which system. (Can you tell that I have nothing to talk about?)

Hmm... better prepare myself for that venereal disease.

Whoops! I apologize for the lude content this link contained earlier... apparently, the site I linked to doesn't like it when people steal their content.. But alas, never fear, the great rosser has fixed the problem.

Lyrics of the Day - "Up and Down and Back Again"

"If everybody knows just who you are...
When your walk-on role becomes a major part...
Have you ever attempted to be yourself,
When everybody wants to you to be someone else?"
July 9, 2003 - hmm... no title today
Not a whole lot of time to write today, I'm going to leave in a few minutes to watch a Captains' game... they're the new minor league baseball team based in Eastlake, Ohio. Oh! And if anyone went to my site yesterday and clicked on the horoscope link to discover something very gross, I sincerely apologize. I wasn't aware that outside linking of images wasn't appreciated by funny-pics.net (18+ site... the pics they consider funny generally aren't.).  So yeah, I fixed that link if people want to see the real content. That's all for now.

I think we all know what this picture signifies.

Quote of the Day - Hubert H. Humphrey

"In real life, unlike in Shakespeare, the sweetness of the rose depends upon the name it bears. Things are not only what they are. They are, in very important respects, what they seem to be."
July 11, 2003 - dream on
I have a headache... Perhaps it's another effect of the large amount of carbonated water I've been drinking, eh Brian?

Anyways, today's topic: dreams. After you dream, do you ever tear the dream apart and easily see exactly where each part of the dream stemmed from, whether it was an experience, a tv show/movie, a fear, a thought, or a want of yours? Has a dream ever told you something about yourself, or opened your eyes to something you never realized you wanted? Besides searching for your dreams origins, have you ever searched for their implications? See, while dreams can be entertaining escapes from reality, they can also be windows into the subconscious. I guess that's my two cents on the matter... and the cents aren't plastic this time.

I know, I know...terrible.

Quote of the Day - William Dement

"Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives."
July 12, 2003 - randomocity
I've been pretty out of it lately, healthwise. I don't necessarily feel ill, I just don't feel like I'm 100% for some reason. But anyway, the show must go on.

I saw Pirates of the Carribean a couple nights ago. I really enjoyed it... I'm glad they didn't take it too seriously; that is, there was quite a bit of humor in the film. One of the most entertaining movies I've seen in a while. Next thought: We got new siding on our house... They're not completely done siding it yet, but once they are, I'll be sure to put up a before and after pic. I liked our house blue; I'm not sure how I feel about this beige color. Speaking of new, my mom just got a new car. Typically, I like driving compact cars, but something about the Honda CR-V makes driving it very enjoyable. Maybe it's the height; when I was little, I always wanted to drive a monster truck.

Quote of the Day - Ronnie Shakes

"I was going to buy a copy of The Power of Positive Thinking, and then I thought: 'What the hell good would that do?'"
