Song of the Week: Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me
July 20, 2003
I'm sure many of you know what happened, but for those of you who don't... Ashley's dad passed away early Saturday. (Hence why I didn't update.) If you know Ashley and you want to attend her dad's service, it will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Church. Even if you didn't know her dad, I'm sure it would mean a lot to her if you could come.

And just a repost  from a few months ago:

-- And just like all other things, we too return to the ground. But the ground is not the important thing, no. The events of our lives have some significance, but in the big picture, they are also nothing. You see, beneath all the pain and struggle and daily occurances of every life lies something that defeats it all. And on a clear, crisp day, if you look at someone in just the right light, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the hidden emotion inside them. And this inner-peace we all store too returns to the earth in death. But do not misunderstand me, for the spirit does not die. The spirit of another or even of yourself can visit you once again when you least expect it.. perhaps on a clear, crisp day, when you're looking in the eyes of someone new and see the same glimmer you swear you saw once before. And herein lies the truth about life: Nothing ever goes away...Nothing that really matters, at least. --

...earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust...

July 23, 2003 - time for an update
After a few days of website hiatus, I've decided I should start updating again. The funeral was yesterday... Ashley is such a strong girl; she always has been. Perhaps that's what drew me into becoming friends with her in the first place. She's taking some planned time off at the moment, spending the next several days doing what she loves at gymnastics camp. As for me, I'm starting to get more into my college mindset, as I've submitted my official schedule and now intend to begin my summer reading. There will be no reading at the moment, however, because I am ridiculously tired for who knows what reason. So yeah, I'm out of here until tomorrow.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish a very Happy Birthday to Jess... It feels like it's her birthday every time I see her. I don't have a picture of her, so I posted a pic of someone who really resembles her.

Movie Quote of the Day - Changing Lanes

And then, magically, this whole incredible day just somehow becomes a memory. It's like... you go to the beach. You go down to the water...it's a little cold. You're not sure you want to go in. There's a pretty girl standing next to you; she doesn't want to go in either. She sees you, and you know that if you just asked her her name, you would leave with her... You'd forget your life, whoever you came with, and leave the beach with her. And after that day, you remember her. Not every day, or every week...but she comes back to you. It's the memory of another life you could have had. Today is that girl.

July 24, 2003 - let's get (a) physical
I went to get a physical today from a doctor my aunt recommended to my mom. It wasn't long before we realized that the doctor was in fact well-trained in the practice of laser hair-removal. Not only that, but the doctor had many other cosmetic products on display in her waiting room. After spending about a half hour waiting among the elderly women, I was called to visit the doctor. I checked out just fine... I had her remove some of my hair from my head, so if anyone asks, that's where I got my hairline.

I saw Johnny English yesterday... And hell, I think it's going to be one of the most underappreciated movies of the summer. It was excellent, all around, and I highly recommend it!

Quote of the Day - Al Franken

It's easier to put on slippers than to carpet the whole world.

July 26, 2003 - mystery on the horizon
I saw a play that Karen Connavino was in last night called "Children of Eden"... overall, it was a rather enjoyable experience. Something about kids singing and acting just makes me smile somehow. I pretty much am always up for seeing a play, no matter who's putting it on. Anyways, in today's news, not much has gone on. I played DDR with Steve-o for a bit and then went to the library and rented Amadeus. I've been wanting to see that film for a while now. So yeah, I'm out for now. Oh, and a message from Joe... "The tree sways in the wind." That message is for a few people in particular, so if you don't know what it means, it must not be for you.

My glorious collection of MegaMan games is complete! I couldn't have done it without the help of Ebay, which has commercials with a greatness comparable to those of Geico.

Quote of the Day - George Bernard Shaw, via Kirk

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
