Song of the Week: Squeeze - Tempted

July 27, 2003 - bull-running is for the birds
I saw Identity last night with Brian and Joe. Pretty interesting concept... some parts were kind of cliche, though that's the way it usually is with horror movies. As for today, I went with my sister and a couple cousins who were in town to see the new Tomb Raider movie. It actually wasn't too bad... and of course, having Angelina Jolie as the lead actress didn't hurt too much either. Even looking past her looks, I generally like her acting and movies that she's in. Anyways, with the new week comes a new logo; this animated creation comes from Kirk. Cute, ain't it?

"The Running of the Ostriches" is an annual event in Irurzun, Spain. Obviously, they recreate the well-known Pamplona "Running of the Bulls", but with slightly less hostile participants.

Quote of the Day - Benjamin Franklin

"Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight."

July 28, 2003 - g'day mates!
Finally! I have something new in my Mates section. No, unfortunately it's not the old section I used to have there... I don't even know if I'll ever get around to putting that up. But yeah, Jenny gave me an excellent idea yesterday to make a class directory on my site, so that my friends and I have easy access to each other's contact info when we all go our seperate ways. So yeah, click here to go to the directory, and if you want to add your info, just fill out the form! Alright, that's all for today.

Kirk posted something about this guy at one point, but yeah, the man on the left is a member of the National Guard. As you can see, he's legally changed his name to Optimus Prime. For more info, see the original article or the guardsman's website.

Conversation of the Day

Ista5: your name means "peninsula"
therosser1022: i know!
therosser1022: i'm not sure what that implies
therosser1022: maybe that i'm a man who's able to see many things from one place
Ista5: or maybe you just...stick out

July 29, 2003 - friend is a six-letter word
How many people that you are friends with now will you be friends with forever? For those whom you'll lose touch with, how long will it take to lose touch? 10 years? 5? one year? a month? If you lose touch with certain people, does it mean that the friendship didn't have a strong enough base? No matter how good of friendships you've had, what have you acquired from your friends throughout the years? Good traits? Bad ones? Vocabulary? Beliefs? Just memories? How would you be different if you didn't have certain friends? Or would you be the same? Or how about this one... if you like who you are, and you consider your friends an indispensible part of your journey to find yourself, what would have happened if you never met those friends? If you lived somewhere else? Would you meet equally indispensible friends? Would you be just as happy with who you are? When "finding yourself," would you have found the same self?

Steve-O and I played Nintendo til the wee hours of the morning a couple weeks ago. While celebrating out victory in Bubble Bobble, the game delievered this final message to us. Lovely, eh?

Quote of the Day - C.S. Lewis

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.

July 30, 2003 - wake up
Never rent the movie "How To Irritate People"... it's not very funny; in fact, it's quite irritating. That said, I'll begin my update. Not much news today. The directory is getting larger... Chris submitted his info for it, even though he's only going into eleventh grade. Perhaps I should just make it a "mates directory".... Not sure if I'll do that yet. Feel free to enter your contact info even if you're not going off to college. As far as my personal life goes, things are going pretty well... it's been rather quiet lately, but still enjoyable. My appendix or something hurts... what organ is on the right side of the body a few inches below the belly button? Well, whatever it is, that's what hurts. More tomorrow.

This is a shot of my mom about to take the life of a helpless, unsuspecting cookie back from when my sister got out of the slammer.

Quote of the Day - Dave Barry

What we need in this country, instead of Daylight Savings Time, which nobody really understands anyway, is a new concept called Weekday Morning Time, whereby at 7 a.m. every weekday we go into a space- launch-style "hold" for two to three hours, during which it just remains 7 a.m. This way we could all wake up via a civilized gradual process of stretching and belching and scratching, and it would still be only 7 a.m. when we were ready to actually emerge from bed.

July 31, 2003 - fair is foul and foul is fair
Last night was the first night of the 185th Street Festival. Since sophomore year, I have gone to every night of the festival, and generally, I have always enjoyed it. For one, it's something to do... something other than watching a movie or sitting around. I like walking around and seeing all the people connecting and chit-chatting. That brings me to the second thing I like; Since it's a pretty big festival, usually everyone goes at least one of the nights... Because I go ALL of the nights, I get to see the people who go on any particular night, but more importantly, I get to see friends and acquaintances I don't really hang out with, but still like to hang out with. It's nice to catch up with some of the people from school, especially this year before we all go away... And the third thing I like is that if things get awkward or I'm at a loss for anything to say to any of these "friends or acquaintances", then I can just bid farewell and keep on walking onward to meet the next friend along the way.

Lyrics of the Day - "Sweetness Follows" by R.E.M.

It's these little things, they can pull you under.
Live your life filled with joy and wonder.
I always knew this altogether thunder was lost in our little lives.
Oh, oh, but sweetness follows.

August 1, 2003 - rabbit rabbit
My day overall has been rather boring; I got a meningitis shot, I went to work, I played MegaMan 4. Thrilling, eh? I'll probably head down to the fair later tonight for the sake of tradition. As for the weekend, I have a few things lined up; a couple parties on Saturday, and a play on Sunday. I've always wanted to see Into The Woods live, and Sunday is my chance. It's probably my favorite musical of all time, actually.

And a quick note about the directory; for those of you who don't want information like your address, e-mail, or phone number available for all to see, I have a "Private" option next to all of those so that someone has to request it in order to access the information. And if you don't want it available at all, feel free to leave the fields blank. I'm sure some people may be interested just to see what college you're attending, so if all you want to list is your name and college, that's fine too. Just a PSA from me on that one. Adios for now.
