Song of the Week: Mest - Jaded

August 31, 2003 - more about movies
I saw S.W.A.T. last night... Even though real life action-type flicks aren't my favorites, it wasn't too bad. I'm a fan of Samuel L. Jackson, so any movie with him can't be all bad. Speaking of movies, I've really been getting back my drive for film lately... I am suffering from editing withdrawl. I feel like my "baws films" collection needs at least one more movie to be complete. I'm not exactly searching for a film concept though, I'm just leaving the scope of my inspiration sensors wide open. If I'm really going to end up making another short movie, it's going to be a good one. Well, that's it for this Sunday update.

This is a shot of actors playing Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff... Names sound familiar? Yep, it's true, they're making another version of the hellish classic Wuthering Heights. But wait, there's more... The "they" that is making the film is none other than MTV. Much like the "Hip Hopera" Carmen, MTV is making an updated version of the Emily Bronte novel, complete with music! Yay. More info here.

Quote of the Day - William James

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind."

September 1, 2003 - face it
Back at school now... I spent most of the day just sitting around. See, I believe in the principles of Labor Day; that is, I tried to work as little as possible. Anyway, this is a late update, and I really don't have much to say, so I'll just post an image and a quote and be done with it.

How many faces can you find?

Presidential Quote of the Day - Dwight D. Eisenhower

"A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both."

September 3, 2003 - i can't think of a title
Back at home now... I have my cat scan thing tomorrow, which I'm not really looking forward to. But I guess it will be nice to know for sure what's up with my former appendix area. I'll be sure to post the results. It's 7:19 right now, and I'm getting hungry, but because of the scan in the morning, I'm not allowed to eat. What a sad tale. Anyway... hey, at least I'll be able to get a good night's sleep. I swear I haven't slept well one night at Case yet. Maybe I just don't sleep well at places other than my house. I dunno. What a boring update. I apologize. I'll be sure to update tomorrow with my scan results. Alright, over and out.

Quote of the Day - Eleanor Roosevelt, via Jason's Cantina

"You gain strengh, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face ... You must do the thing you think you cannot do."

September 4, 2003 - giving new meaning to "off-road vehicle"
I'm now at Case once again... My cat scan thing this morning went fine. That is, the procedure itself. I still don't know if I'm fine or not... but I'll find out soon enough I guess. At the moment I'm just kind of tired and I'm really looking forward to it being the weekend soon. I've had kind of a rocky start to college, but nothing that I won't be able to deal with. I'm off for now to do some reading for sociology... More tomorrow.

Yes, it's exactly what it looks like. It's called the "Aquada Sports Amphibian"... it can drive up to 100 mph on land, and 30 mph on water. In 10 seconds, the car converts itself into a boat and is ready to roll down the river. Full story here.

Quote of the Day - Patricia Neal

A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug.

September 6, 2003 - the case of the course of courses at case
Once again at home... This travelling back and forth is getting to me. I hate feeling like I'm making people go out of their way for me. I mean, I definitely appreciate it and all, but I am really hoping I get a parking pass soon so I don't have to put people out. But yeah, nearly all my friends have left for college now... I kind of just feel like it's an extended vacation for them or something. Many of them are coming in next friday for the VASJ game, so I'll see them there. But soon after that, the rest of my friends will be leaving, and it will set in-- that is, the feeling of closure on my current life. Anyway, that's enough of that. I was talking to Larry yesterday about college and stuff, and we both agree that we aren't big fans of the college classroom setting. While the teachers may be very knowledgeable in a subject, they may not be knowledgeable in the subject of teaching. I guess I can't really explain it too well, but the size and level of the classes at college don't allow for very interpersonal relationships between the students and teachers. I guess I just liked the feeling of knowing my teachers on a personal level at Euclid. But yeah, at Euclid, classes were every day and they were taken for one year... Now at Case, classes are 2-3 times a week for half a year. That timeframe doesn't really allow for many digressions in class... i.e. no "Duncan Donut" parties, no musical Macbeth videos, no surprise birthday parties when it's no one's birthday. I don't think I'll know any of my teachers on such a personal level that I can pour a ridiculous amount of candy corn on any of their desks for no apparent reason at all. Ah, the good old days... Alright, the update is getting lengthy, I'm out for now.

Lyrics of the Day - "Where Are You Going?" by Dave Matthews Band

I am no Superman;
I have no answers for you.
I am no hero, oh that’s for sure,
But I do know one thing:
Where you are is where I belong.
I do know, where you go is where I wanna be.

Where are you going?
