September 14, 2003 - random things to ponder
Just a few thoughts I've had lately...
  • Sneezing is incredibly weird when you think about it. Like, what a weird involuntary function for people to have. If I were an alien, I would probably think sneezing were some kind of crazy human weapon.
  • Have you ever woken up and felt like you only closed your eyes for five seconds or so, and yet it's eight hours later and you feel completely refreshed? I remember this happening to me just once in my life... It was like midnight, I closed my eyes, I opened them, and then it was eight in the morning. It was a very cool experience... more than a dreamless sleep... a sleepless sleep.
  • It's really amazing how computers aren't even weird to our culture anymore. Like, if you took someone from the eighteenth century forward in time to now, he would be amazed by computers. But that's obvious. When you think about it, it's really interesting how we've basically created a new form of "writing". Rather than drawing lines and curves to make up all the letters, we now just push these little buttons and letters form on the screen. When I think about it, I'm quite impressed by my coherence in typing.
  • Speaking of computers and typing and whatnot... the idea of having a "pen pal" is wildly different now than it was just 10 years ago. Nowadays, you can just find a random person on the internet and have instant communication with them through writing. There is no suspense, no waiting in anticipation for a reply letter. Thus, now each "letter" has much less value. When you wrote letters, you had to think about what you wanted to say, what was important enough to let someone know... Now e-mails can just be mundane things about the events of everyday life.
Alright, I guess that's enough of that for now. More tomorrow.

Here's a capture from a shockwave movie promoting Dennis Kucinich for President in 2004. There are a few short films as well as some songs and other stuff. I recommend you check it out! (If you scroll past the movies you'll see the list of songs; the first song is called "Go Go Dennis!"... that song is highly recommended by Liz, so in turn, I will highly recommend it. If for no other reason, listen to it in honor of Jeff (for those of you who know the fabulous boy named Jeff... or as he likes to be called, "The Jeffinator".)

Quote of the Day - Gandhi

"First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win."

September 15, 2003 - using my noodle
Not much is going on today... I spent most of my Monday sitting around in my room playing online games and occasionally working on homework. I had some long ramble planned out for today, but I forgot what it was... I really need to get myself more in "school gear" or something. I am already counting down the days to my fall break. It's not that school is difficult or frustrating yet, it's just that I'd rather be doing something other than school-work. I have three pretty boring classes, and three interesting ones... So while it's nice that I have some interesting classes, a 1:1 boring to interesting ratio isn't all that great.  Anyway, I guess I should stop procrastinating and start doing my Calculus, so I'll write more later.

September 16, 2003 - a shocking product
Another day at college today... I have been putting off my homework all evening, so I think I'll get to it now. Before I do, I figured I'd at least post an IOTD and Quote... Maybe I'll have something more to say tomorrow.

Quote of the Day - Oscar Levant

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

September 18, 2003 - extreme dreams
Have you ever dreamt from someone else's point of view? I'm sure that probably doesn't make very much sense, but yeah... the other night I dreamt that I was someone else, yet I wasn't aware I wasn't me. I clearly remember dreaming that I was consciously a different person. Heh, well I probably sound insane right now, so I'll stop. I really do enjoy dreams though... For a time, I considered making a dream log, only for the sake of future entertainment. However, I most likely wouldn't understand those dreams once I looked back at my descriptions of them. Well, alright, I'm going off to dream some more (actually, I have some homework I must attend to first).

Here's a shot of a jestful act of "vandalism" at a bus stop across from Severence Hall. I'm not sure what the sign originally said, but I have a few friends over at CSU, and they're really not that smelly... (although Larry does have his moments, if you know what I mean).

Interesting Fact of the Day

Oranges - a good source of vitamin C - have been used as fuel for underwater sausage factories for the last twenty years.

September 19, 2003 - shiver me timbers!!
Avast ye swashbucklers! While I was playin' me hornpipe and drinkin' me grog yesterday, I came across an interestin' tidbit o' information. Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. So I say to myself, I say "Blow me down!" and I find me ol' pirate dictionary. Now of course me pirate-talkin' abilities are a bit rusty, I must rise to the challenge, put on me eyepatch, and screw on me ol' pegleg.  All you land lubbers out there, stop actin' like bilge rats and let out a big "ARRR!!!!!!"... or else I'll make ye walk the plank!

Pirate Joke of the Day

A pirate walks into a bar with this enormous steering wheel stuck down his pants.  The bartender can’t help but ask, “What’s with the steering wheel?”  “ARRRRGGH,” the pirate answers, “it’s drivin’ me nuts!”

September 20, 2003 - let's talk about sex(es)
So I was watching some home movies from when I was young today. Is it weird that I was a witch for Halloween in kindergarten? Like, I was a female witch; I wore a gray wig, green nail polish, and black lipstick. I didn't even think twice about it until recently... Actually, that Halloween, my sister Marnie was a boy scout... and my aunt was an old man. Perhaps my family has issues of wanting to be the opposite gender. Hmm... I did have a dream that I was a girl once... Perhaps my subconscious is telling me I need a sex change.

Then again, maybe not.
