Song of the Week: Jimmy Durante - Make Someone Happy

September 28, 2003 - time flies
Ever get into one of those moods when you just feel like life is way too short? Like it goes by way too quickly?? I kind of was feeling like that last night… I was feeling very, reminiscent I guess. Reminiscent for all the past fun moments I had, and hell, I'm even reminiscent for the times I have now from a future perspective. Basically, I want to cherish all the times I'm having now, because once they're gone, I won't have them anymore. That probably sounded REALLY stupid... but yeah, I'm kind of missing my friends from high school and whatnot. But alas, I will see many of them on Friday at Ruet Caelum's rockin' show at the Pit. Alright, that's all for now.

That's the problem with words that can function as both adjectives and verbs...

Movie Excerpt of the Day - You've Got Mail

Kathleen Kelly: What will NY152 say today I wonder. I turn on my computer. I wait impatiently as it connects. I go online, and my breath catches in my chest until I hear three little words: You've got mail. I hear nothing. Not even a sound on the streets of New York, just the beating of my own heart. I have mail. From you.

September 29, 2003 - duality
So yet again, I began my homework today early on and kept putting it off and doing other things. I definitely have a problem focussing on school work at times. Several times, I sat down and said, "I'm not getting up until I finish this," and yet, I got up.... without finishing. Roundabout 7:00, I decided to put on my headphones. And there we had it; I did my work dilligently. I was telling this to Steve a week or so ago. I think I work so much better reading and on my homework and such when I'm listening to music while I do it. Maybe I just need to occupy both hemispheres of my brain at once, I dunno.

Quote of the Day - Deborah Tannen

"Our determination to pursue the truth by setting up a fight between two sides leads us to believe that every issue has two sides -- no more, no less: If both sides are given a forum to confront each other, all the relevant information will emerge, and the best case will be made for each side. But opposition does not lead to truth when an issue is not composed of two sides but is a crystal of many sides. Often the truth is in the complex middle, not the oversimplified extremes."

September 30, 2003 - water issues
Sheesh, I need to start updating earlier!! I always seem to be writing my updates late at night. Anyway, I saw in the guestbook that some people thought the IOTD yesterday was somewhat distrubing... Hence why I chose it. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't reflect any inner feelings of mine, but I just found it intriguing. Anyway, my good story of the day. I went into the bathroom to wash off some orange juice in my hand, and I turned the water on full blast and splashed water on the front of my brown pants. Well, it was obvious the pants were wet, and the placement of the water was in quite the awkward place. Well, there weren't any paper towels, but with my knowledge of the movie Bean, I knew exactly what to do... I went over to the hand dryer, and aimed the crotch of my pants toward it. Well, after a few minutes of air-drying my pants with a paranoid look on my face, the pants were no longer wet... and just as they finished drying, someone walked in, and I quickly put my hands in front of the dryer so it didn't seem like I was getting some kind of pleasure out of it. I walked out of the bathroom proudly.

Well, I hate to get so many IOTDs from the cellar, but this one was just too good to pass up... I definitely want to try doing this one day. Or maybe the human race has gone to far...maybe we're just trying to play God, or more accurately, Jesus. (You know, with the whole "walking on water" thing...)

Quote of the Day - Russ Boggs

"If you fall, I will not pick you up... I will catch you on the way down."

October 1, 2003 - random rambles
Random thoughts of the day:
  • The word "sneaky" is really funny-sounding for some reason, I can't explain why.
  • A girl in my sociology class ate a banana today... she unpeeled it, threw the peel away, and then tore pieces off of it and at them. Somehow I feel like that kind of ruins the whole banana-eating experience. The peel is there to protect your hand from getting banana cooties on it, and therefore the peel should stay there as you eat it.
  • Anyone ever watch that show on Nickelodeon when we were kids, Today's Special? With Jeff the manikin and Jodie and Mr. Crenshaw and everything? And "Hocus Pocus Alimagocus"??? I guess it was only me.
  • If I end up becoming a math teacher, I think I'll move to somewhere near Lancaster, PA. Then I'll register the phone number 986-9184. Therefore, to reach me people could dial 1-717-986-9184, or 234.

"Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives."

October 2, 2003 - breathe easy
Well, I have a short break between my Astronomy and Wellness classes. So I figured I might as well update, considering I usually wait til like 10 or 11 to do so. I took and Astonomy quiz today, which I think I did fairly well on. I have a Sociology midterm tomorrow, which I'm kind of unsure about. Then, next Tuesday, I have one of my two math tests for the course, so I have to make sure to not do too bad on it... and later that day I have a computer science exam, which I'll probably get like a C on, only because I signed up for the advanced class and now am trying to go up a creek without a paddle... or something like that. Anyway, I'm just counting down the days until my lovely 5 day fall break, which I have conveniently taken off  work for. It will be a welcome retreat from the pattern of everyday college life.

"In case of emergency, when you find yourself in a scene, possibly involving a biologic or chemical agent, you should try to protect your airway. Our consumer neckwear may be important when moments count in an emergency."

Yes, this is a real product. In fact, it was designed by John Haaga, M.D., a Case professor. He even created a company called "Freedom To Breathe Safe Clothing" to market these "fashionable" products.

Quote of the Day - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"To know one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

October 3, 2003 - let the skies fall
Tonight's the highly-anticipated debut show for the band Ruet Caelum. I know several of the members, and I must say, I'm looking forward to their show. Many of my old pals from high school are coming into town to see it, so it will be nice to see them as well. Ohh, and on a completely unrelated note, I now have a parking pass at Case, so I'll be able to get home and back so much more easily than before... I know, I know, no one else cares, but still, I'm excited. But not as excited as I am about tonight. Good Luck Fellas!!

Well, while I don't have a picture of the whole band, I do have a picture of the infamous Boomer. Hmm, I think this is one of my favorite pictures that I've taken.

Quote of the Day - Theodore Mungers

"Like everything else in nature, music is a becoming, and it becomes its full self, when its sounds and laws are used by intelligent man for the production of harmony, and so made the vehicle of emotion and thought."
