Song of the Week: Fountains of Wayne - Stacy's Mom

October 19, 2003 - to columbus and back
Whew! Had an excellent time down in Columbus with the gang. Ashley was a wonderful host (as usual), and we got to walk around the campus a bit. We at at Steak 'n' Shake, and then Larry bought a Jesus action figure, which was featured on therosser a while back. Anyway, We decided to face the OSU game traffic and try to get to our hotel 8 miles away from Ashley's dorm. Of course, the short ride took us something like an hour... So we decided to get a second dinner and then go to Giant Eagle for a bit... Oh, and of course we went to go check-in at our hotel. See, originally Larry and I booked a two-bed hotel room at the EconoLodge, and Milda was gonna stay in Ashley's dorm. Well, somehow they ran out of room at the EconoLodge, so the owner booked us two rooms at the Ramada for the same low price. So yeah, rather than face the traffic back to OSU, Milda and Ashley took a room, and Larrold and I took the other. Then this morning, we went to Bob Evan's, hung out at Ashley's for a bit, and walked around campus a little more. All in all, it was a blast of a weekend.

Alright, well after the short night's sleep and the long drive, I think I'm gonna hit the road. Adios for now.

Along with the Jesus action figure, Larry also invested some money in this high tech Pig Catapult. And yes, you read it correctly... it "launches pigs up to 15 feet!"

Poem of the Day - "A Time To Talk" by Robert Frost

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don't stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven't hoed,
And shout from where I am, "What is it?"
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
For a friendly visit.

October 21, 2003 - it's a small world after all
Sorry about the lack of update yesterday, I was out longer than I originally expected. The Scottman and I went up to Sodja's to drop off my bass for repairs, and then we met up with Joe to grab a fancy meal at the Richmond mall food court. Of course, I couldn't help myself and I bought a root beer milk shake from A&W... Heh, I remember when I got one of those while shopping with Brian, shortly after he and I got cotton candy. I couldn't eat anything sweet for weeks! Anyway, so after our meal, Joe went home to work out and then go out to work. So Scott and I met up with Larrold and went and saw Kill Bill: Volume 1. I really enjoyed it overall, despite all the killing and whatnot. I'd highly recommend it, just for the cinematography even. Anyway, that was pretty much my evening... like anyone really cares. I'm really glad that Scott and I have started hanging out again before he goes off to college in the spring. We've never really *not* been friends, but for a while there we just didn't really see too much of each other. Alright, I'm off to work, talk to y'all later.

I hate to sloth material from the cellar, but this one was way too cool to pass up.

What is this crazy contraption again? It's Tholos. The idea is to place one of these in London and one in Vienna, and then display live video on this cylindrical screen and emit live audio from the speakers on the top. Thus, the people in London could have live visual and conversational interaction to the people in Vienna, and vice versa. It's a damn cool idea... and the world just keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Quote of the Day - Mark Twain

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first."

October 22, 2003 - oh how the days go by
So thanks to Kirk Israel's date toy , I now know that not only am I nineteen years old today, but also that this is my 6939th day of living. All in all, the past 6938 days have been pretty good. Some were full of excitement (like #5745); some were fully of bright new ideas (like #3608); some were full of walking into Lake Erie wearing a Scott Baio mask (like #6209)... Of course, there were rough times and times of sorrow. But hey, I'm still here. I remember back during my six-day hospital stay, all I could think was how awful I was feeling and how I couldn't wait until it was all just a memory. But guess what? Now it IS all just a memory. In essence, everything in life eventually becomes nothing more than a memory. Even some small things that may not seem important at the time end up sticking to you as memories. Can you think of anything you distinctly remember even though there may have not been anything distinct about the event in the first place? You'd be surprised at what you think of...

Today, like all the rest, is just another day.... which is why I plan on enjoying it.

Lyrics of the Day - Verve Pipe

"it's a bittersweet symphony, this life."

October 23, 2003 - get with the program
I spent most of today working on my program for computer science. We had to make a theater reservation system thing... It really wasn't too complicated, yet I felt as though I needed to perfect it and make it all cool. Anyway, now it's like 11:30, and I think I'm gonna hit the hay, but I wanted to at least put something up here for today's entry. So that's all she wrote for today, I suppose.

Quote of the Day - Jane Austen, Mansfield Park

"If any one faculty of our nature may be called more wonderful than the rest, I do think it is memory. There seems something more speakingly incomprehensible in the powers, the failures, the inequalities of memory, than in any other of our intelligences. The memory is sometimes so retentive, so serviceable, so obedient; at others, so bewildered and so weak; and at others again, so tyrannic, so beyond control! We are, to be sure, a miracle every way; but our powers of recollecting and of forgetting do seem peculiarly past finding out."
