Tracy Middendorf (Tina) played Tora Ziyal (Gul Dukot's daughter) in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "For The Cause".

Cordelia invites Angel into her apartment.
Obsessive Star Trek fans may recognize Neil's pick-up girl for her small part as a Trek actress. Jennifer Tung played the Female Ensign in the 1998 film Star Trek: Insurrection.
This episode was a replacement for an original David Fury script called 'Corrupt'. Intending Angel to be much darker in tone, Fury wrote the script which involved Kate taking drugs and prostituting herself and Angel licking blood off a murder victim. Understandably, when WB read this they were horrified and production was closed down and David Fury had to write a whole new script, which became this episode
Featured Music: 'Touched' by Vast

Deciding that no vampire deserves to see the light of day, Angel destroys the gem.

b: 19-Oct-1999 pc: 1ADH03 w: Douglas Petrie d: Bruce Seth Green

NOTE: The name Spike gives Angel, the White Hat, is the name of the group of vampire-killers in the Buffy episode 'The Wish,' who save Cordelia from vamp Willow and Xander. The group consists of Larry, Giles and Oz (who appeared in this ep).

gs: Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Tushka Bergen (Melissa Burns) Andy Umberger (Doctor Ronald Meltzer) Carlos Carrasco (Doctor Vinpur Narpudan)

b: 26-Oct-1999 pc: 1ADH04 w: David Greenwalt s: Joss Whedon & David Greenwalt d: Vern Gilum

NOTE: The title "I Fall To Pieces" was a hit song by Patsy Cline in 1962.

In the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode 'Prophecy Girl', Xander listened to this title song in his room after Buffy refused to go to a dance with him.

5. Rm W/a Vu
gs: Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Beth Grant (Maude Pearson)

Cordelia Chase lives in the projects, and she's not happy about it. When she returns one evening to her roach-infested digs, she decides that desperate times calls for desperate measures and moves into Angel's apartment. Angel, unthrilled by his new roommate situation, makes a pact with Doyle: if Doyle can find Cordelia new digs, Angel will help him out with his debt negotiations.

Doyle holds up his end of the bargain and finds a stunningly beautiful one-bedroom apartment. At first, Cordy's on top of the world, but she soon gets the willies. Drawers open and close, furniture moves, and the wind blows to and fro. After some research, Angel learns that the apartment was owned by a woman who mysteriously died in the 1950s.

Even more compelling is the number of single-woman suicides that have occurred in the apartment since her occupation. He and Doyle figure out that there is a ghost that is somehow murdering the women. While Angel is away doing research, Cordelia is lured back to the apartment and is confronted by the apparition. At first she is overwhelmed, but she later gathers her moxie and sends the ghost back to her rightful place.

b: 02-Nov-1999 pc: 1ADH05 w: David Greenwalt , Jane Espenson d: Scott McGinnis

NOTE: Angel is invited into Cordelia's new apartment. He is seen inside Doyle's home, so must have been invited in at one time. Of course Doyle was part demon and the not-wholly-human quirk been used to skirt this issue in other episodes.
Greg Collins, who played Keith, had a part in the 1998 film 'Enemy Of The State', which also had Seth Green in it, who was a regular on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and appeared in the Angel episode 'In The Dark'. Greg played the FBI supervisor and Seth played Selby.
Presumably, Aura is the same Aura who found an "extreme dead guy" in her locker in the Buffy episode 'Welcome To The Hellmouth'.
Right as the ghost says ''this is my house!'' in the big fight at the end, Cordelia gets up and runs from the camera and you get a glimpse of the tattoo on the small of Charisma's back.
Angel listens to Beethoven's ''Ode To Joy'' in his apartment, which is also the song he was whistling when he visited the hospital in the Buffy episode 'Killed By Death'.
Doyle's telephone number is 555-0189.
Cordelia's old apartment is #4B, her new apartment is #212 Pearson Arms.
This is the first "appearance" of recurring "character" phantom Dennis.
Maybe a coindidence, but one of Darla?s traits was that she always liked a room with a view, later said by Angel in the second season episode "Darla" and others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kate, hardened by years of police work, enrolls in sensitivity training with her fellow police officers. Angel and Doyle figure out that Kate is in danger because of a recent arrest, and make the connection that the sensitivity teacher is responsible. 7. Bachelor Party
gs: Kristin Dattilo (Harry) Rib Hillis (Pierce) Carlos Jacott (Richard Howard Straley)

Just as Doyle is inches away from finally making a connection with Cordy, his estranged wife shows up at Angel Investigations begging for a divorce so she can marry the new love of her life. After the initial shock of it all, Doyle agrees to consent to the divorce.

Meanwhile, Angel discovers that the fiancee comes from a long line of pacifist demons, but this doesn't seem to rock anyone's boat. After Doyle consents to the divorce, the fiancee invites Doyle to join his bachelor party.

Unbeknownst to Doyle, the fiancee's family has a ritual to fulfill: the fiancee needs to eat Doyle's brain in order to have a successful marriage. As the party proceedings begin, Angel gets suspicious and wanders upstairs. There he discovers these demons may not be as pacifist as they seem. He is ejected from the restaurant by the family.

Downstairs, Doyle is about to be eaten with a shrimp-fork, but Angel and Cordy and the fiance arrive on the scene and come to the rescue.

b: 16-Nov-1999 pc: 1ADH07 w: Tracey Stern d: David Straiton

NOTE: Carlos Jacott has also appeared in Buffy. Playing Ken in the season three episode 'Anne'.
The ending of this episode briefly sets the stage for the first two-parter Buffy/Angel crossover, as Doyle has a vision of Buffy in trouble. Odd how the visions always limit to people of L.A. in trouble, maybe this was because Buffy was the slayer, or because Angel loved her, maybe even because the forces DID intend the series of events which turned Angel into a human to happen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At the club, Cordelia chats it up with William and invites him to spend the night. The next morning, she realizes she's expecting! They form a plan: Angel will track down Cordelia's friend Serena, while Wesley will take Cordelia to the doctor. When the doctor observes she is carrying 7 babies, the panic sets in.

Meanwhile, Angel meets with Serena and discovers she's pregnant as well. She clues him to Wilson and his cronies' hangout: a local gun club. Meanwhile, Cordelia and Wesley return to Angel's pad and Wesley observes her new attitude towards her spawn. She is suddenly very attached to them. Wesley deduces she is under some kind of telepathy.

After a brief reconnaissance, Angel heads for the gun club, and Wesley researches and identifies the demon species. Cordelia, now fully under the influence, escapes from the apartment and heads to a local industrial park to prepare for the birth. Meanwhile, William fesses all after a brutal thrashing from Angel in vamp form. Wesley heads over to the industrial park and challenges the demon to a duel to the death. b: 25-Jan-2000 pc: 1ADH12 w: Howard Gordon d: Dave Sernel

NOTE: Though we could probably assume that Cordelia has had past relations - (btw - NOT with Xander as we know that Faith took his virginity AFTER he and Cordy broke up) this is the first time it is confirmed that she has enjoyed "pleasures of the flesh" so to speak.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

13. She
gs: Ling Bai (Jheira) Colby French (Tay) Heather Stephens (Demon Girl) Sean Gunn (Mars the Spa Worker)

Cordelia throws a happenin' soiree. While Wesley attempts to mingle, Angel spends most of the time brooding in the kitchen. The next morning, Angel officially hires Wesley, and Cordelia receives a vision of a murder in an ice factory. Angel locates the corpse and encounters a demon named Tay, who tells him his mission is to stop the bringer of chaos. Angel tells his findings to Wesley and Cordelia, and they get right into the research. That night, Angel pays a visit to the corpse's office and encounters a female demon. She sends him a powerful jolt then leaves. Angel recovering quickly, jumps into his car and follows her to a museum.

There, he discovers the demon is attempting to help other females escape their homeland via a portal in the museum. Back at A.I., Wesley discovers Tay is a Vigorie, a herbivore species from Oden Tal that enslaves its female members of the race. Back at the museum, the rescue is a bust after Tay and his cronies burst in. Angel and the demon (who soon introduces herself as Jheira) manage to get rid of them, but not before they take the runaway captive. They unmake her by removing her 'ko.'

Jhiera later explains to Angel that the ko is located in the spine and controls a female's physical and sexual power. Meanwhile, Cordelia and Wesley pay a visit to the California Flower Mart to spy on the Vigories. They discover the demons know of Jheira's whereabouts and report back to Angel. We soon learn the other female runaways are at a spa called Palm Ridge. Angel figures out the location, and together they high-tail it to the mansion to warn Jheira.

After assisting the escape of the women, Wesley and Cordelia are trapped by the Vigories. Jheira abandons them, but they manage to fight on their own. Jheira pays one final visit and Angel warns her not to hurt any more civilians.

gs: Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Will Kempe (Seth Anderson) Katy Boyer (Paige Anderson) Anthony Cistaro (Ethros Demon) Jesse James (Ryan Anderson)

Angel accidently calls Wesley 'Doyle' while he is arguing with Cordy, who has just made inedible brownies. We later learn Angel feels pangs of guilt over Doyle's untimely death. Suddenly, Cordelia receives a vision about a young family. When Angel and Wesley visit the residence, they notice a boy sleepwalking in the street. Angel saves the boy, named Ryan, from an oncoming car. When Angel goes inside the house to get cleaned up, Wesley takes a look around and deduces one of the members of the family is possessed by a demon.

Meanwhile, to show their undying gratitude for Angel's bravery, the family invites him over for dinner the following evening. Wesley informs Angel about the demon presence and the next day, they create a brownie recipe that will reveal the demon's presence. During desert, Ryan puts on a demon face and Angel brings the family AI to exorcize it. While Cordy stays with the family, Wesley and Angel go to the local church to find the priest to exorcize the demon, but they soon learn from the nun that the priest died six months earlier.

Wesley decides he will perform the exorcism and begins the ritual. The strength of the Ethros demon is such that he will most likely kill whomever is performing the exorcism because of its need to inhabit another body, so Cordelia travels into town to purchase a box to contain it. However, the box is too small, and the Ethros demon escapes after its expulsion. Angel and Wesley track him and kill him, but not before learning Ryan was evil before the demon ever entered his soul. They go to the house and rescue Stephanie, Ryan's sister, from a fire he had started. Ryan is taken into police and social services custody, and the family thanks Angel for his work.

b: 15-Feb-2000 pc: 1ADH14 w: David Greenwalt , Jeannine Renshaw d: Robert David Price

NOTE: You'll note the spelling of Majick with a 'k'. Those who are actual Witches (or those who practice Wicca) spell Majick with a 'k' to seperate real Majick with that which you might see at a Magic show.
It could be said that this episode is a tribute to the movie "The Exorcist", which it strongly resembles both in concept and in content.
It is stated that not only Sunnydale is weird or has public knowledge of demons, since Cordelia just buys a box (or similar at least) specifically made to catch demon souls in a normal shop.

15. The Prodigal
gs: Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Christina Hendricks (Bar Maid) Julie Benz (Darla) John Mahon (Trevor Lockley) Henri Lubatti (Suit #1)

Angel has a memory of an altercation between him and his father in 1753, but his mind quickly returns to the present when he kills a demon who escaped from a moving subway train. When Kate enters on the scene, he tells her to cover up the truth to her fellow officers. Though she is disturbed by the demon factor, she becomes distracted after seeing her father enter the station. Later that morning, Wesley identifies the deceased demon as a Kwaini species and remarks it is atypical for this type of demon to be violent. They deduce the demon had an incentive to attack one of the passengers. Angel then tries to obtain a list of passengers from Kate, but she's unwilling to give it to him.

Despite this, he manages to locate the passenger in question and follows him on one of his deliveries: to Mr. Lockley's apartment. When Angel confronts Mr. Lockley, he denies any involvement. Angel, reminded of his painful past with his father, has another memory from his past: he meets Darla and is sired.

Back at A.I., Wesley conducts some tests and discovers the Kwaini demon was addicted to a substance similar to street PCP. Angel deduces that Kate's father is somehow involved with the drug trafficking. He then has another memory, this time of his own funeral, his first meeting with Darla as a vampire, and his first kill. That afternoon, Kate approaches Angel, gives him a list of the passengers and tells him she wants to be involved with the case. She changed her mind after having a conversation with her father.

Suddenly, two Kwaini demons attack Wesley and Cordelia, seeking more of the drug. While this is happening, the drug traffickers pay a visit to Mr. Lockley. Meanwhile, Angel has another memory of killing his entire family. Angel tries to save Mr. Lockley from the traffickers but can't enter his apartment because he was not invited. Standing by the door entrance, he watches the vampires kill Mr. Lockley. After his death, Angel enters in and kills one of them. Kate arrives and is devastated by the death. She obtains the address of the traffickers and manages to slay one of the killers. As the rest of the gang prepares for attack, Angel bursts in and slays the lot of them. He has one final memory from his past: Darla informs her that he will carry the painful memories of his father for a lifetime.

b: 22-Feb-2000 pc: 1ADH15 w: Tim Minear d: Bruce Seth Green

NOTE: Cordelia's Birthday is May 22
Angel's real name is Liam. After becoming a vampire, Liam goes back home to murder his family. His sister, seeing him alive again, proclaims that he must be an "angel". Thus the new name.
"Liam" is an Irish form of "William", so basically, Angel and Spike have the same name.
Liam's tombstone reads: "1727-1753 Beloved Son"
This episode is unusually short clocking in at only 40 minutes rather than the usual 44 minutes.

16. The Ring

As Wesley and Cordelia exchange banter, Angel is paid a visit by a strange man, claiming his brother Jack was kidnapped by demons affiliated with a bookie. While Cordy and Wesley consult their demon database, Angel pays a visit to the bookie. The bookie refers him to a place in beechwood canyon. We later learn the man who pays a visit to Angel, is the organizer of the fight club, and Wolfram and Hart is a major sponsor. Angel soon discovers he was set up in a trap. He is expected to fight other slave demons to the death.

The next morning, after Cordelia and Wesley get suspicious about Angel's whereabouts, Wesley pays a visit to the bookie and obtains the address of the fight club. That night, Angel kills a demon, but his heart isn't into the battle. Wesley and Cordelia spot him in the ring, and Wesley explains the meaning behind the slave bracelets which Angel and the other demons are wearing. They rush back to AI to find a way to open the bracelets.

Meanwhile, Jack pays a visit to Angel and tells him of his disappointment in his fighting and Angel threatens to kill him unless the slaves are set free. His brother decides to kill Jack, rather than agree to Angel's terms. Angel is knocked out, and later wakes up in the offices of Wolfram and Hart. When he finds out the associate from W&H has ulterior motives, he returns to the fight club and learns his next opponent is Trepkos, the toughest demon in the lot.

The next morning, Wesley and Cordelia successfully make a key to unlock the bracelets. That evening, Angel begins to fight Trepkos. The battle is brutal. Cordelia and Wesley break into the slave area with the special key, but it falls into the hands of one of the demons. While Angel and Trepkos continue to fight, the demons set themselves free. One of the demons slips a bracelet onto the fight's organizer, Trepkos throws him into the air,and he promptly disintegrates. The demons are set free.

b: 29-Feb-2000 pc: 1ADH16 w: Howard Gordon d: Nick Marck

NOTE: The X-Files episode Firewalker also featured a character named 'Daniel Trepkos'. That episode and this one were both written by Howard Gordon.
The sketches of demons in the database are from Joss Whedon, who used them to give his ideas to the make-up folks on Angel and Buffy. They include the demons from Gingerbread and The Wish, a Kaliff from Rm W/a Vu, a Kawaini from The Prodigal, and a Brachen demon from Hero.
This is the first appearance of Wolfram and Hart beauty Lilah Morgan.

The next day, Rebecca pays a visit to AI and tells Angel she is being stalked by a celebrity fan. She asks Angel for his help, but he turns down the case. Wesley deduces Angel has feelings for Rebecca and has rejected the case to prevent himself from obtaining the true happiness that would unlease his evil vampire within. Cordelia is beside herself with disappointment, after all, this Rebecca woman could be a serious networking opportunity!

Later that evening, Rebecca has a gathering. As she ascends the stairs she hears noises. Angel bursts in and chases out the stalker. When Rebecca realizes the stalker is a stuntman and former client of Oliver's, she confronts him. When Oliver mentions no one stays young forever, Rebecca glances at Angel and gets an idea.

The next day, she and Cordelia go shopping and Rebecca pumps her for information. That night, she comes over in a sexy number and gives Angel a bottle of champagne to thank him for his valiant efforts. She slips a drug into his drink and moments later, tells him she wants to become a vampire. The drugs begin to affect Angel's judgment, and moments later, the persona of Angelus emerges. After an exchange of evil pleasantries, Cordelia and Wesley manage to knock him out and keep him contained until the drugs wear off. The next day Angel apologizes to Cordelia and Wesley for his behavior.

b: 04-Apr-2000 pc: 1ADH17 w: Tracey Stern d: Regis Kimble

NOTE: The character that Rebecca plays is called "Raven," which may be an in-joke reference to either the Highlander spin-off "The Raven," or the name of the vampire club in the TV series Forever Knight.

18. Five By Five
gs: Julie Benz (Darla) Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Thomas Burr (Lee Mercer) Tyler Christopher (Wolfram & Hart Lawyer) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Eliza Dushku (Faith)

Angel and Wesley catch, find and convert a prime witness that is involved in a case against Wolfram & Hart. Knowing that Angel is behind the reappearance of the witness that foiled a major case, W&H are ready for payback. Enter Faith. Seems she's had enough of Sunnydale and is searching for darker pastures.

Not five minutes off the Greyhound and the rouge Slayer knocks out a lecherous man and takes his wallet and keys. With some cash and a place to stay, the sky's the limit.

We're taken back to Romania, circa 1898, as Angel's past is revealed. We see the transformation of Angelus to Angel as his soul is restored by a gypsy. And we see the pain Angel first endures as he now feels the 140 or so years of killing and is now neither part of the vampire nor the human world.

The evil folks at Wolfram & Hart find Faith and commence hiring her to do away with their nemesis, Angel. It's obviously no problem for her. She immediately attempts to shoot our hero in public with a crossbow, but Angel catches it mid-flight. Wesley warns Angel that Faith is not a demon but just a sick girl and there may be a chance to reach her still.

Wesley changes his mind when Faith kidnaps and tortures him, nearly to death. Angel and Cordelia follow Faith's path of destruction and locate her new hide-out. Faith and Angel fight but as Faith begins to get stronger physically, declaring herself "evil," she appears to be losing it mentally. As they fight, they both go flying out the window to the alley below. Wesley cuts himself loose, picks up a knife and heads downstairs--ready to do whatever he has to, to save Angel.

Faith continues to weaken mentally and as she and Angel brawl in the alley, she collapses into his arms, begging him to kill her. To be continued...

b: 09-May-2000 pc: 1ADH20 w: Gary Campbell d: David Straiton

NOTE: Gunn was named after actor Sean Gunn (who guest starred in the previous episodes "Hero" and "She") and his brother writer James Gunn, who, like Joss Whedon, is a comic book afficionado. James also wrote the film Scooby Doo which starred Buffy's Sarah Michelle Gellar.

21. Blind Date
gs: Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Thomas Burr (Lee Mercer) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Sam Anderson (Holland) J. August Richards (Charles Gunn)

Angel agrees to help legal but not so ethical whiz kid Lindsey McDonald crack the secret files of Wolfram & Hart to save a group of children from a demonic assassin. Said assassin also happens to be legally blind, quite the lethal weapon and on the Wolfram & Hart's payroll. Angel asks vampire hunter, Gunn to help him break into the Wolfram & Hart building and along with the assistance of Lindsey, our undead hero makes it in successfully even though the firm is full of traps.

Along his journey through the law firm's secret vaults Angel finds himself attracted to an ancient scroll and he grabs it as he runs out the door. Little does Angel know, the scroll holds a prophecy about the "vampire with a soul". Ultimately, Lindsay isn't quite sure if he can stick by his decision to betray the firm and sabotage the deadly mission. b: 16-May-2000 pc: 1ADH21 w: Jeannine Renshaw d: Tom Wright

NOTE: The abilities of the blind woman in this episode are simular to that of the Marvel comic book character Matt Murdock, a blind man who becomes a superhero known as Daredevil. The Daredevil comic has now been turned into a film starring Ben Affleck.

22. To Shanshu In L.A.
gs: Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Julie Benz (Darla) Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Sam Anderson (Holland) Todd Stashwick (Vocah) Carey Cannon (Female Oracle) Randall Slavin (Male Oracle) David Herman (David Nabbit) J. August Richards (Charles Gunn)

Wesley is searching for the translation of the Scrolls of Obearsain and the prophecy of the "vampire with a soul". He is finding the process difficult as the scrolls are over 4,000 years old and translated into a dozen languages. Unfortunately, when Wesley does realize what the pivotal word, "shanshu" means, he must tell Angel that the prophecy means the vampire with a soul will die. Angel greets this news with an uninterested shrug. Wesley and Cordy believe Angel's non-reaction is a result of not living, growing and changing as the rest of the world does. The gang discovers that Lindsey has been promoted to Jr. Partner at Wolfram and Hart. He made his choice to stay with the dark side.

Meanwhile, the folks at W&H are conjuring up a demon who has come to separate Angel and the "Powers That Be." This of course, means separating Angel from his friends as well as the Oracles.

The next day, as Cordy walks through a flea-market, the same demon brushes up against her. She's hit with a vision but it doesn't stop. Screaming in pain, she collapses on the ground.

The evil demon also pays a visit to Angel's home where he plants a bomb and easily walks out with the scrolls. Seems he needs the scrolls himself for a surprise incantation that will further bring woe to our heroes. Wesley arrives just in time to see the bomb and hightail it around a brick wall that ultimately saves his life.

While looking after Wesley in the hospital, Angel visits Cordelia and notices a symbol on her hand. Angel heads to the Oracles to find out what it means only to find them slain. Lucky for him the spirit of the female Oracle is able to tell Angel that the mark belongs to a warrior of the underworld named Vocah, as well as filling him in on how to save Cordy. Angel enlists his new friend Charles Gunn to watch over his injured friends while they are in the hospital.

Meanwhile the team from W&H are in a mausoleum, surrounding a crate, and watching an incantation lead by Vocah. Angel attacks
the demon but as the two brawl, Lindsey takes over with the ritual. Angel kills Vocah but the ritual is complete. Lindsey attempts to burn the ancient scroll but Angel slices off his hand before he gets the chance and rushes to save his friends.

Back at Cordy's apartment, Wesley discovers the real meaning of "shanshu" is to live. Angel will eventually become human.

And back at the basement of Wolfram & Hart, the crack team of lawyers gather around the crate. Holland tells Lindsey they will even the score with the very item that sits in the crate. Lilah welcomes the disheveled creature that turns out to be Darla.

b: 23-May-2000 pc: 1ADH22 w: David Greenwalt d: David Greenwalt

NOTE: Since we eventually learn that "shanshu" means both life and death, the title of this episode would translate to "To Live and Die in L.A." which is also the title of a 1985 film directed by William Friedkin (French Connection) about a cop who's willing to do anything to avenge his partner's death, breaking the law and risking his own life to catch the killer.
Final appearance of the Angel Investigations office, and Angel?s house.

NOTE: J August Richards joins the regular cast as of this episode.
Faith's Prisoner Number is 43100
First appearance of recurring character Lorne, here called The Host.
Apparently sets the rule of adding to the title credits a character introduced 3 or 4 episodes prior to the last season finale. It happened with Gunn, Fred and with the adult version of Connor.

24. Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been
gs: Melissa Marsala (Judy) Julie Araskog (Over the Hill Whore) J.P. Manoux (Bellman) John Kapelos (Hotel Manager) Tommy Hinkley (Detective) Scott Thompson Baker (Actor) Brett Rickaby (Denver) Tony Amendola (Hotel Demon)

Angel directs Cordelia and Wesley to investigate a mysteriously abandoned hotel in Hollywood and as they piece together the building's dark history, they discover that his interest is that of a personal nature. In a flashback to 1952, Angel is not the atoning vampire of present day, but a recluse who is detached from the tortured humans around him, until one fateful day.

b: 03-Oct-2000 pc: 2ADH02 w: Tim Minear d: David Semel

NOTE: Cordelia uses an iBook
You may notice that the Apple Logos on Cordelia's iBook are covered up, on the back with a pink post-it note, and on the front with a small piece of paper.
Are you now, or have you ever been... is the introductory line to the McCarthy era quest for communists.
This episode represents the first time Angel evers calls Cordelia "Cordy."
John Kapeolos, the hotel manager, formerly played Donald Schanke, Nicholas Knight's partner for two seasons on "Forever Knight". Possibly as part of an in-joke, there is polka music playing in the hotel in one scene: Schanke was a big fan of polka music in FK.

Meanwhile, Angel is somewhat off his game due to the fact that he has been sleeping weird, but has no idea his fitful nights are the result of nocturnal visits by Darla.

b: 17-Oct-2000 pc: 2ADH04 w: Meredyth Smith d: Joss Whedon

NOTE: Cordelia makes refference to Buffy 3x08 in where she fell through an old staircase and becomes impaled on a piece of reebar. The incident was taken from a real indicent in the life of actress Charisma Carpenter (who plays Cordelia) when she was a small girl
This is the first time series creator/executive producer Joss Whedon has directed an episode he hasn't written

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

27. Dear Boy
gs: Andy Hallett (Caritas' Host) Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Darren Kennedy (Cop #1) Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Julie Benz (Darla) Juliet Landau (Drusilla) Stewart Skelton (Harold Jenkins) Cheryl White (Claire) Matt North (Stephen) Sal Rendino (Man)

NOTE: Charisma Carpenter does the 'Previously on Angel' Voiceover

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

29. Darla
gs: Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Julie Benz (Darla) Juliet Landau (Drusilla) James Marsters (Spike) Mark Metcalf (The Master) Sam Anderson (Holland)

Angel is desperate to rescue Darla from the clutches of Wolfram & Hart and flashbacks reveal what a dangerous and powerful relationship they shared as history weirdly seems to be repeating itself. The trip down memory lane begins with Darla's sire by the Master and ends with the gang of Spike, Drusilla, Darla and Angel being torn apart when he gets a soul.

b: 14-Nov-2000 pc: 2ADH07 d: Tim Minear

NOTE: Alexis Denisof does the 'Previously On Angel' Voiceover
This episode is the second part of a two-parter episode started in Buffy's "Fool For Love". Even if the episode's individual stories are different, some flashbacks about Spike from Buffy and the ones about Darla and Angelus do repeat in both episodes, showing Spike's POV in Buffy and Darla's and Angelus' POV in this one.
This episode features Mark Metcalf as The Master (during a flashback from before he got trapped in The Hellmouth), making this his second onscreen appearance after he died in Buffy's "Prohecy Girl". The first is in Buffy's "The Wish", which shows an alternate outcome for Buffy's season 1 in which The Harvest did succeed and The Master has risen and conquered Sunnydale.
This is the first Angel episode to be named after a character. Disharmony (Harmony) could be included as the next one, but Billy is the next ep to be fully named after a character. Angel was the first in BtVS.
Drusilla says to Darla "I could be your mummy someday". At face value typical Drusilla craziness, but in actuality it's some bizarre foreshadowing for "The Trial".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30. The Shroud Of Rahmon
gs: Tom Kiesche (Detective Broomfield) Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) W. Earl Brown (Menlow) Dwayne L. Barnes (Lester) Michael Hagy (Jay-Don) Tony Todd (Vyasa) Robert Dolan (Bob)

b: 28-Nov-2000 pc: 2ADH09 w: Douglas Petrie & Tim Minear s: David Greenwalt d: Bruce Seth Green

NOTE: This episode includes a reference to Holtz, a vampire hunter who will become the Big Bad of Season 3
Juliet Landau is mentioned in the closing credits instead of the opening ones, in order to maintain the surprise at the end.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

32. Reunion
gs: Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Erik Liberman (Erik) Juliet Landau (Drusilla) Julie Benz (Darla) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Sam Anderson (Holland) Stephanie Manglaras (Landlord) Karen Tucker (Female Shopper) Katherine Ann McGregor (Catherine) Michael Rotondi (Burly Guy)

Meanwhile, as Angel goes off the deep end, his staff worries they are the only ones standing between Angel and real darkness.

b: 19-Dec-2000 pc: 2ADH10 w: Tim Minear & Shawn Ryan d: James A. Contner

b: 16-Jan-2001 pc: 2ADH11 w: Meredyth Smith d: Michael Grossman

34. Blood Money
gs: Gerry Becker (Nathan Reed) R. Martin Klein (Husband) Sam Anderson (Holland) Julia Lee (Anne) Mark Rolston (Boone) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Matthew James (Merl) Jeffrey Patrick Dean (Dwight) Jason Padgett (Holden) Jennifer Roa (Serena) Deborah Carson (Liza)

b: 23-Jan-2001 pc: 2ADH12 w: Shawn Ryan & Meredyth Smith d: R.D. Price

NOTE: Anne (Julia Lee) was also in Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Lie to Me" as Chanterelle and in "Anne" as Lily/Anne.
Cordelia's milk ad on tape is probably an in-joke reference to David Boreanaz's doing a Got Milk? ad for TV Guide.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

35. Happy Anniversary

gs: Darris Love (George) Elisabeth Rohm (Detective Kate Lockley) Julia Lee (Anne) Matthew James (Merl) Mushond Lee (Jackson) Jarrod Crawford (Rondell) Cory C. Hardrict (Ray) Kyle Davis (Kenny) Camille Mana (Les) Brenda Price (Callie)

Angel investigates rumors of renegade cops out for blood, while Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn carry out their own fact-finding mission that results Wesley being seriously wounded by a police gunshot.

b: 13-Feb-2001 pc: 2ADH14 w: Jim Kouf & Shawn Ryan d: Scott McGinnis

NOTE: The song playing in the shelter when the two kids show up past curfew is Ms Jackson, by Outkast.
The title of this episode likely comes from a combination of two things. Police are often referred to as the Thin Blue Line, and there was a film called the Thin Red line, which is based on a novel about the disenchantment of soldiers during World War II.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

37. Reprise

b: 27-Feb-2001 pc: 2ADH16 w: Tim Minear d: Thomas J. Wright

39. Disharmony
gs: Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg) Mercedes McNab (Harmony Kendall) Andy Hallett (Caritas' Host) Pat Healy (Doug Sanders) Adam Weiner (Caged Guy) Rebecca Avery (Caged Girl)

Angel Investigations may be together again, but that doesn't mean the family is ready to add a new sister. While the crew tracks down a cult of vampires led by a former motivational speaker with a wicked pyramid scheme, Cordelia gets a surprise visit from her old high-school buddy Harmony. Unaware her flaky pal's a bloodsucker, Cordy mistakes Harm's strange behavior for lesbianism---until the truth comes out, so to speak, in a call to Willow. Much to the dismay of her co-workers, the ever loyal Cordelia resolves to give her undead friend a chance at fighting for the good guys.

b: 17-Apr-2001 pc: 2ADH17 w: David Fury d: Fred Keller

NOTE: Mercedes McNab's character Harmony was a recurring character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer who crossed over onto Angel.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

40. Dead End
gs: Christian Kane (Lindsey McDonald) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Andy Hallett (Caritas' Host) Gerry Becker (Nathan Reed) Pete Gardner (Joseph Kramer)

The search for a man Cordelia saw in a vision stabbing his own eye leads the gang's path to cross with Lindsey's---whose new right hand seems to have a life of its own. The trauma afflicting Cordy puts one of the gang in intense worry-mode.

b: 01-May-2001 pc: 2ADH19 w: Shawn Ryan d: Turi Meyer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

42. Over The Rainbow
gs: Amy Acker (Fred) Brody Hutzler (Landok) Andy Hallett (Caritas' Host) Susan Blommaert (Vakma) Persia White (Aggie) Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin Park) Michael Phenicie (Silas) Brian Tahash (Constable) William Newman (Old Demon Man) Drew Wicks (Blix)

After being inadvertently sucked into a dimensional portal, Cordelia finds herself stuck in the Host's home world, Pylea, a place where human beings aren't exactly treated as such. While Cordy struggles to endure the hardships of otherworldly existence - which include being treated as a slave and referred to as "cow" - Angel, Wesley, the Host and Gunn work on how to get her back. They decide that the only acceptable, but nonetheless risky, plan is to go to Pylea themselves. Of course, the only way to get there is to first locate another functional portal. And the Host is none too excited about the idea of a homecoming.

b: 08-May-2001 pc: 2ADH20 w: Mere Smith d: Fred Keller

NOTE: Persia White (Aggie) also played Aura the girl "who found the extreme dead guy in her locker" in "Welcome to the Hellmouth", also Cordelia and Aura were talking on the phone in "Rm w/a Vu."
Fans have noticed that the other entrance to the dimension is at the front of the gates of the Paramount lot.....a nice in-joke by the writers as "Buffy" has moved over to the UPN network this year. (or insult depends on your angle!!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

43. Through The Looking Glass
gs: Tom McCleister (Deathwok Clan Mother) Amy Acker (Fred) Andy Hallett (Caritas' Host) Mark Lutz (Groosalugg) Michael Phenicie (Silas) Brody Hutzler (Landok) Adoni Maropis (Rebel Leader) Brian Tahash (Constable) Andrew Parks (Priest 1)

Angel and friends work overtime to survive in a foreign dimension. Cordelia discovers her dirty duty as Princess of Pylea is to mate with a creature called the Groosalugg. She's unable to escape the palace with Wesley and Gunn, and the priests keeping watch over her also prove to be less than trustworthy. Meanwhile, Angel gets himself into trouble with the Host's family when he refuses to kill a human woman who went missing from L.A. years before.

b: 15-May-2001 pc: 2ADH21 w: Tim Minear d: Tim Minear

NOTE: Numfar is played by Joss Whedon, series creator, who probably shouldn't quit his day job to become a dancer...
Just in case you're wondering, that is David Boreanaz in the AngelBeast make-up
Joss Whedon had a conversation with Tim Minear & David Greenwalt over the creation of Numfar: [Joss] "There should be a guy in the background doing a stupid dance like this'. Finally Greenwalt and Minear said, 'Why dont you do the stupid dance? You already look stupid, we've just gotta put make-up on'".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

44. There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb

It's up to Cordelia to save him while Angel calls upon Fred to help rescue everyone so they can all go home.

b: 22-May-2001 pc: 2ADH22 w: David Greenwalt d: David Greenwalt

Willow crosses over from Buffy the Vampire Slayer at the end of the episode to tell Angel that Buffy died.

Season 3

45. Heartthrob

On a routine patrol, Angel stakes a female vampire he recognizes from his past, but a moment too late. Her grief-stricken lover, Angels old fighting buddy, is out for revenge for the present killing and a betrayal Angelus committed over 200 years ago.

b: 24-Sep-2001 pc: 3ADH01 w: David Greenwalt d: David Greenwalt

NOTE: Starting with this episode, Angel now airs in a widescreen format.
Most likely as a nod to the fact its sister show moved to UPN while Angel remained on WB and there'll be no future crossovers, the characters are written so as to go to great lengths to awkwardly not mention "Buffy" by name, until the very end.
Amy Acker joins the regular cast and is now credited in the opening.
First onscreen appearance of Holtz who has been mentioned and had some influence in various flashbacks between Angelus and Darla on season 2.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

gs: David Denman (Skip) Justin Shilton (Billy Blim) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Julie Benz (Darla) Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin Park)

b: 01-Oct-2001 pc: 3ADH03 w: Jeffrey Bell d: Bill L. Norton

NOTE: Lilah Morgan's printer is an Epson 740i (Special iMac edition)
There's a lot of (supposedly) adult sexual innuendo and puns in this episode. Fred compares Cordy to Lassie (which was a bitch), Fred talks about "forking" Gunn, Wesley uses the word 'dick', and the name of the herbal shop is "Van Hoa Duong".
Billy Blim is not named in this episode
This episode was intended to be the third episode of the season as indicated by the production number but was switched to be the second.

b: 08-Oct-2001 pc: 3ADH02 w: Tim Minear d: Fred Keller

NOTE: This episode was intended to be aired as the second episode of the season but was switched and aired as the third instead.

48. Carpe Noctem
gs: Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin Park) Rance Howard (Marcus) Paul Benjamin (Retirement Home Resident) Misty Louwagie (Christina) Marc Brett (Health Club Phil) Paul Logan (Woody) Steven W. Bailey (Ryan)

An old man casts a body-switching spell on Angel, and the old man enjoys the many pleasures of being eternally young, handsome and bloodthirsty in Los Angeles while a dying Angel tries to get his body back.

b: 15-Oct-2001 pc: 3ADH04 w: Scott Murphy d: James A. Contner

NOTE: This amazingly mysterious-but-youthful title, "Carpe Noctum" is Latin for "Seize the night" just as the well-known term "Carpe Diem" means "Seize the day".
In this episode we learn that Buffy is alive.
Rance Howard was married to Jean Speegle Howard before her death, who played the 'Real Miss French' in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode 'Teacher's Pet'. The couple had two sons, one actor Clint Howard, and famous director Ron Howard.
In the beginning of the episode, when the gang is resting in the hotel doing nothing, Gunn is seen playing a Nintendo Game Boy, later seen again through the series.

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Gary Grubbs (Roger Burkle) Jennifer Griffin (Trish Burkle)

Fred's parents make a surprise visit to Angel Investigations. However, when their inexplicably frightened daughter gets wind of their arrival, she flees the scene. b: 22-Oct-2001 pc: 3ADH05 w: Mere Smith d: Marita Grabiak

50. Billy
gs: Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin Park) Justin Shilton (Billy) Richard Livingston (Congressman Blim) Jennifer Brooke (Clerk) Cheri Rae Russell (Female Officer) Gwen McGee (Detective) Kristoffer Polaka (Dylan) Rey Gallegos (Sanchez) Charlie Parker (Guy) Joy Lang (Amber) Timothy McNeill (Cab Driver)

Angel's loyalty to his friends comes back to haunt them in this chilling episode, an unsettling blend of the series' usual horrors with the more realistic issue of violence against women.
Angel and Cordelia both knew there would be consequences when he freed the partially demonic (but totally evil) Billy from a fiery prison in hell in order to save her. Those fears are realized when a wave of violence against women is traced back to Billy, whose mere touch has the power to bring out the worst in otherwise good men. The crew rushes to prevent another brutal attack, unaware that Wesley has already been infected---and he's alone in the hotel with Fred.

b: 14-Jan-2002 pc: 3ADH11 w: Mere Smith d: Michael Grossman

NOTE: The theme tune to 'Cordy' was wrote by David Greenwalt and sang by Marti Noxon
Here we see a rather alternate outcome to "Hero", in which Angel inherited (dont wanna know how...) Doyle?s visions. But they made him crazy. We also see Wes and Gunn joined him but Wes has lost a hand.

Also, Fred is offered big bucks to solve a demonic puzzle; Angel goes to work for a high-paying businessman; and Gunn and Wesley protect a woman whose zombie ex-boyfriend is stalking her.

57. Waiting In The Wings
gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Mark Harelik (Count Kurskov) Mark Lutz (Groosalugg) Summer Glau (Prima Ballerina) Thomas Crawford (Manager) Don Tiffany (Security Guard)

b: 04-Feb-2002 pc: 3ADH13 w: Joss Whedon d: Joss Whedon

NOTE: Angel refers to Buffy 2x19 'I only have eyes for you', when he talks about being inhabited by the spirits of old lovers.
The first ep of Angel written by creator Joss Whedon since the pilot. Expect Buffy references and rejected musical ideas
It's interesting to note that Summer Glau, who plays the Prima Ballerina, goes on to star in 'Firefly', another Joss Whedon created show

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Bob Rumnock (Businessman) Mark Lutz (Groosalugg)

b: 20-May-2002 pc: 3ADH22 w: David Greenwalt d: David Greenwalt

NOTE: Season Finale
The drive-in movie appears to be "Courage Under Fire", starring Meg Ryan and Denzel Washington. Of course, we only see some generic combat footage.
This season finale somewhat parallels the end of the season finale of Buffy. In both someone professes their love for someone in the process of killing them. In Angel's case, though, it doesn't work, while for Xander dealing with Evil Willow, it did.
This is David Greenwalt's last episode before he left the series to work on Miracles for ABC. David Simkins was brought in as executive producer but he left after a couple of months and the position was given to Jeffrey Bell

Season 4

67. Deep Down

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Laurel Holloman (Justine) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin Park) John Rubinstein (Linwood)

With Angel and Cordy missing for three months, Fred and Gunn are frustrated at the lack of clues regarding their friends' disappearance, especially after Connor is forced to kill the only eyewitness to Angel.

Of course, actually Connor knows all about where Angel is and disposes of the vampire witness to cover his tracks.

Meanwhile, Wes has captured Justine and while maintaining a sexual relationship with Lilah, is searching for Angel's sunken box.

He eventually finds Angel, whose brain may be damaged from lack of blood. Giving up his own blood and letting Justine go, Wes tells Fred and Gunn about Connor's betrayal. They capture him and he escapes to confront Angel, who tells him he loves him but he has to get out.

Meanwhile, Lilah arranges to get ahead in the ranks of Wolfram & Hart and Cordy is bored.

b: 06-Oct-2002 pc: 4ADH01 w: Steven S. DeKnight d: Terrence O'Hara

NOTE: Vincent Kartheiser joins the regular cast.

Andy Hallett (Lorne) is now credited as 'Special Guest Star Andy Hallett'

In-joke time: in the board meeting Linwood twice mentions his "corner of the sky". Actor John Rubinstein played Pippin in the Broadway production of Pippin and the first song he sings in the musical is "Corner of the Sky". You can hear him on the album/CD soundtrack still available.

Vincent Kartheiser now listed in the opening credits.

Despite initial plans to have continuing character Gwen Raiden appear in the first episode of the new season, her first appearance was deferred to a later date.

Alexis Denisof is now listed last in the credits as opposed to third place where he has been in previous seasons, he is also credited as "and Alexis Denisof".

This episode marks the death of Linwood (John Rubinstein).

Lilah now becomes Head of the Special Projects Division following the death of Linwood.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

68. Ground State

gs: Megan Corletto (Young Gwen) Tom Irwin (Elliot) Alexa Davalos (Gwen Raiden) Rena Owen (Dinza) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Megan Corletto (Young Gwen)

When Wesley advises Angel to visit Dinza, a dark "goddess of the lost" who has valuable information on how to find Cordelia, he learns that a certain mystical antiquity called the axis can locate souls across dimensions.

Angel, Fred and Gunn break into an auction house to retrieve the object only to discover that an electrifying cat burglar has the same intentions.

b: 13-Oct-2002 pc: 4ADH02 w: Mere Smith d: Michael Grossman

NOTE: This is the first time Angel's heart has beat since he was turned into a vampire about 240 years ago, with exception to the time when he was mortal due to the powers that be, but since that time only exists in the memory of angel, it doesn't count.

This episode is full of comic book references. Aside from the references made to Batman and Superman comics we also see young Gwen sent to what seems like an academy for gifted children.

In the X-Men comics from Marvel, young mutants with special abilities are sent to Professor Xavier's School for the Gifted.

Gwen's last name is Raiden. In some languages "Rai" means thunder and "den" means lightning. Raiden is also the name of the mytholigical Japanese god of thunder and lightning.

Gwen's appearance and attitude, down to the equipment are also very similar to Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider games.

Actually, giving Gwen the last name "Raiden" could be seen as a pun - "Raiden" - "Raidin'" - "Raiding" - which is a synonym for stealing... Nice last name for a career thief

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

69. The House Always Wins

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Morocco Omari (Spencer) Clayton Rohner (Lee DeMarco) Jennifer Autry (Lornette #2) Matt Bushell (Security Guard #1) Tom Schmid (Well-Dressed Man) Sven Holmberg (Delivery Guy) Brittany Ishibashi (Vivian) Diana Saunders (Bejeweled Woman) John Colella (Croupier) Rod Tate (Bruiser)

Angel, Fred and Gunn take a road trip to Las Vegas to enlist Lorne's help in finding Cordelia, but get caught up in a supernatural?and literal?"futures" trading scheme.

A ruthless casino owner holds Lorne hostage, exploiting the popular entertainer's psychic abilities to steal unsuspecting patrons' destinies. It is Angel's future, however, that is of more interest...

b: 20-Oct-2002 pc: 4ADH03 w: David Fury d: Marita Grabiak

NOTE: This was more or less a 'Lorne-centered' episode.

How could Angel say he's been to Las Vegas. Before he met Whistler, he was in NY alleys laying low. When exactly did he travel to Las Vegas and meet the famous people he talked about?

It was certainly possible for Angel to visit Las Vegas in the 50's. That was before Angel got his soul back. He didn't live in the alleyways until after he got his soul back.

It's not true. Angel had gotten his soul back in the 50's. Remember the episode Have you now or have you ever been (or what it was called) about the hotel where Angel stayed in the 50s? He was a loner then, and he had his soul. So it doesn't make sense that he would stop being a loner and start hanging with famous people in Las Vegas.

As Orpheus revealed, Angel did not retreat to live alone in the back alleys until after Barry Manilow released Mandy in 1975.

Nothing about Whistler's and Doyle's comments deny this. And he DOES state he was very drunk and beligerent, so he may not have been ENTIRELY committed to his angsty-loner-phase. He probably just happened to pass through on his way to New York.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

70. Slouching Toward Bethlehem

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) David Grant Wright (Minivan Dad) Carol Avery (Minivan Mom) Steven Mayhew (Minivan Teen) Nynno Ahli (Carlo) Thomas Crawford (Eater Demon)

After months of existing on a higher plane, Cordelia inexplicably appears back at the hotel - with no idea why or even how she arrived there.

Sadly, a serious case of amnesia prevents Cordy from remembering either her friends or her past. Believing the full truth may scare her off, the gang attempts to hide the freaky facts about their lives.

Unfortunately, that secrecy leads to mistrust on Cordy's part when the reality of their situation is revealed. Things get even more complicated when Lorne reads her mind and sees a terrifying vision of the future.

Meanwhile, outcast Connor struggles to find his place in the world.

b: 27-Oct-2002 pc: 4ADH04 w: Jeffrey Bell d: Skip Schoolnik

NOTE: The title of this episode comes from a poem by William Butler Yeats 'The Second Coming'.

Does anyone else notice that Cordelia and Connor have almost the exact same haircut? Studio stylist must be running out of ideas.

When Lorne asks Cordelia to sing so he can do a reading, she sings the same horribly off-key version of "The Greatest Love of All" that she did in the BTVS episode Puppet Show.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

71. Supersymmetry

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Randy Oglesby (Professor Seidel) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Jennifer Hipp (Laurie Drummond) Jerry Trainor (Jared)

After Fred's physics article is published; she's invited to speak at a symposium where a portal opens, bringing her face to face with a demon and a dark secret about her old professor.

Meanwhile Angel visits a comic book store to try and solve the mystery and find out why someone would want Fred out of the way. While doing so, he discovers that he is a very popular character in online chatrooms.

b: 03-Nov-2002 pc: 4ADH05 w: Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain d: Bill L. Norton

NOTE: Again we see Angel making rather idle threads against Lilah/Wolfram & Heart. This time, Lilah tells him that shes not really intimidated by his threats since she knows hes not going to hurt her.

When Angel and Gunn are in the comic book store, Gunn pushes the guy up against a spinning rack of comic books. The comic book guy says that they the "Dark Horses." "Dark Horse" is the company that publishes the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books.

Having watched this episode with a string theorist, I've found that the episode is remarkably well researched physics wise. A suprising amount of what Fred says actually makes sense, and Ed Witten and Brian Green are, in fact, really reknowned theorists as well. (Not to mention you would be wetting yourself if you had to speak between them.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

72. Spin The Bottle

gs: Vladimir Kulich (Demon In Cordelia's Vision) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Kam Heskin (Lola) Sven Holmberg (Delivery Guy)

When Lorne performs a spell on Cordelia to restore her memory, it inadvertently causes the gang to revert back to their high school personas and leaves them with no memories of each other. Eventually, they discover that the only way to reverse the spell is to kill a vampire, just as Angel realizes that he is one.

b: 10-Nov-2002 pc: 4ADH06 w: Joss Whedon d: Joss Whedon

NOTE: Buffy the Vampire Slayer had an episode very simular to this one during it's sixth season called "Tabula Rasa." In it Willow tried to perform a magic spell to make Buffy forget about her afterlife but instead the spell backfired and made everyone forget who they were.

"Hello salty goodness" was the first thing Cordelia said when she first saw Angel in BTVS 1x5 'Never Kill a Boy on the First Date'.

Wesley refers to the test given to slayers when they turn 18, this is the same test that was given to Buffy

Fred mentions taking a personality test where they ask you "If you want to be a florist?" In the Buffy episode, Doppelgangland, Buffy and Willow talk about an insanity test that asks "if you ever hear voices or if you ever wanted to be a florist"

Wes takes an interesting turn here. As he transforms from the cool attitude Wes, to geeky nerd Wes as he was in Buffy season 3. He even gets scared in here just like he did in "Dopplegangland", when he stumbles upon Cordelia.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

73. Apocalypse, Nowish

gs: Andy Hallett (Lorne) Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Daniel Dae Kim (Gavin Park)

Angel and company brace for the imminent arrival of a hellish beast and toil to stave off Judgment Day.

Although the creature's coming was initially revealed through Cordelia, she is unable to dredge up the ghastly specifics about the otherworldly visitor from her spotty memory. Only one thing is certain - the demon will bring about the end of the world if no one stops it. With no other choice, Angel partners with Lilah to fight the common threat.

Meanwhile, Fred and Gunn get sidetracked by a bump in their relationship. Cordy and Connor, on the other hand, pair up to hunt down the menace themselves.

b: 17-Nov-2002 pc: 4ADH07 w: Steven S. DeKnight d: Vern Gillum

NOTE: The Beast is the one Cordelia saw at the end of 4x06 'Spin The Bottle' just before she ran to her room after she got her memory back.

Although Daniel Dae Kim has an up-front guest listing, he has no dialogue and barely moves during his appearance in this episode.

Charisma Carpenter looked visibly pregnant in the scenes with Connor, as she paced the floor.

This episode was heavily promoted with the title "Rain of Fire" due to legal issues with The Wb and the distributor of the film "Apocolypse, Now."

Gunn is afraid of rats.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

74. Habeas Corpses

gs: Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Kay Panabaker (Girl In Red Dress)

When Angel realizes that there may be some connection between Connor and the Beast, he learns that Connor is trapped within Wolfram & Hart where the building is under lock-down and the Beast is on a brutal killing spree.

Angel, Wesley, Gunn and Fred break into the building, only to be encountered by zombies of dead lawyers. After finding Connor, the gang try to escape in an elevator. They are taken to the very top floor, 'The White Room'.

They see The Beast standing in front of the little girl in the red dress, she tells the gang that 'the answer is among them'. The Beast destroys her and the gang are magically transported to the hotel.

After arriving back, Angel angrily reveals to Cordelia that he knows about her and Connor.

b: 15-Jan-2003 pc: 4ADH08 w: Jeffrey Bell d: Skip Schoolnik

NOTE: Begining with this episode Angel moves to Wednesday nights at 9 PM.

This episode marks the death of Gavin Park, and also the other lawyers of Wolfram & Hart

This episode marks the apparent death of the little girl in the White Room, and is strange parallel to the Oracles' death at the hands of the Vocah in "To Shanshu in L.A.".

"...the other lawyers of Wolfram & Hart" excluding Lilah, who Wesley saves. This episode has a Resident Evil theme during the Wolfram and Hart massacre scenes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

75. Long Day's Journey

gs: Alexa Davalos (Gwen Raiden) Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Jack Kehler (Manny) Michael Chinyamurindi (Ashet)

The Beast is searching for 5 mystical Totems, he has slaughtered 3 of them, plus the little girl in Wolfram & Hart. The last Totem is a guy named Manny, he seeks help from Gwen Raiden and Angel Investigations.

He hides out in Gwen's panic room, guarded by Angel and Cordelia. When Angel and Cordelia are mysteriously drugged, Manny meets a nasty fate at the hands of The Beast, this causes the sun to disappear from Los Angeles.

After trying to learn more about The Beast's connection, the gang accuse Connor. It is only when Cordelia has a vision, that she discovers who the culprit really is.

NOTE: In loving memory of Glenn Quinn This begins the forever night.

76. Awakening

gs: Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Roger Yuan (Wo-Pang)

Cordelia reveals that The Beast and Angelus used to be a team.

She had a vision which let her sample the past of Angel's alter-ego. Wesley arrives at the hotel, he brings a Shaman with him named Wo-Pang. He has the ability to extract and replace souls.

After much discussion, the gang decide that the only way to find information on The Beast is to ask his 'partner in crime'. Wo-Pang sedates Angel and inserts a simulation into his mind where everyone is happy and The Beast is dead, Angel and Cordelia make love and Angel wakes up in reality, minus one soul.

b: 29-Jan-2003 pc: 4ADH10 w: David Fury and Steven S. DeKnight d: James A. Contner

NOTE: Just as Angel is waking up as Angelus, he mutters, "Buffy?", which is exactly what he said at the moment he turned from Angel to Angelus in season two of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Wo-Pang's attire is reminiscent of the sorcerer in the Buffy episode Enemies.

77. Soulless

gs: Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Andy Hallett (Lorne)

With Angel's soul locked away in a safe, the gang begin interrogation. Angelus has the gang arguing after he reveals the truth behind their recent actions.

Cordelia makes a deal with Angelus, providing he can give the gang the information they need. He agrees and tells them that in 1789, The Beast needed his help while trying to kill a group of Nordic Svea Priestesses. Angelus declined to help and the Svears successfully banished The Beast fom Earth. Angelus reveals the Svears' current location, but when the gang find them, they are dead.

The gang decide that they have enough information from Angelus and prepare to restore his soul, but there is just one problem.... the safe is empty.

b: 05-Feb-2003 pc: 4ADH11 w: Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain d: Sean Astin

NOTE: This episode is directed by Sean Astin, who is better known for playing Samwise in the Lord of the Rings Films

Everyone finds out about Cordy and Connor

Wesley and Fred kiss

Conner eats McDonalds. We see his cup in the background when he and Cordelia exchange words.

The play Angel refrences, "Oedipus Rex" is the same play performed by Buffy, Willow and Xander at the end of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "The Puppet Show"

In more than one detail, this episode could be based on or tribute "Silence Of The Lambs". The plot is about Angel (Hannibal Lector) being pumped for info on The Beast (Buffalo Bill) inside a cage, by the characters (Clarice..s).

Many of Angelus? manners, while still loyal to the character, are quite much like Hannibal?s (Such as standing calm in the cage, sexual remarks, messing up those who talk to him (obviously being able to eat them), a quid-pro-quo-ish style, and sitting in the dark.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

78. Calvary

gs: Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Roger Yuan (Wo-Pang)

The gang rush to confront Wo-Pang about the missing soul, but he doesn't have it.

When they arrive home they find Lilah on the cameras, talking to Angelus about 'taking care of The Beast'.

They follow her and discover the information that Wolfram & Hart stole from Lorne's head.

Cordelia has a vision. Angelus continues to reveal embarrasing secrets, while Gunn and Connor retrieve the head of a soul eater seen in Cordelia's vision. The gang perform a spell using the head and Angel returns.

Cordelia opens Angel's cage a little too eagerly, but Angelus comes out, throws her against the bars and escapes. The gang set out to find him, while Cordelia and Lilah stay at the hotel. Angelus returns, knocks Cordelia out and chases Lilah. After a long chase, she bumps into Cordelia. "He's going to kill us!" Lilah says. Cordelia stabs her in the neck and replies... "Why do you think I let him out, you stupid bitch?"

b: 12-Feb-2003 pc: 4ADH12 w: Jeffrey Bell , Stephen S. DeKnight and Mere Smith d: Bill L. Norton

NOTE: This episode marks the 'much anticipated' death of Lilah Morgan.

The funny eyed glow that Cordelia takes on is the same as Principle Wood has near the end of Buffy 7x16 when he is controlled by the seal - are they both being controlled by the first?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

79. Salvage

gs: Eliza Dushku (Faith) Andy Hallett (Lorne) Vladimir Kulich (The Beast) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan) Joel Moore (Vamp Henchman Karl) Billy Rieck (Vamp Henchman Paco) Joshua Grenrock (Demon at Bar) Brett Wagner (Bong'dar Demon) Kara Holden (Young Woman)

The gang discover Angelus feeding on Lilah. After Angelus escapes Wesley says he will take care of the body, while Connor vows to kill his father.

Lilah's spirit haunts Wesley until he decapitates her fully, keeping his anger well hidden.

He then pays Faith a visit and tells her about everything, she smashes her security glass and escapes with Wesley.

Angelus and the Beast hear about Faith's arrival and lure her and Wesley to a place where they can meet.

Some vampires keep Wesley busy, while Angelus and The Beast take on Faith. Just as The Beast is about to kill Faith, Angelus stabs him and sunlight returns to Los Angeles.

It is secretly revealed that Cordelia was controlling The Beast. As the sun sets, Cordelia confronts Connor and tells him that she is carrying his child.

b: 05-Mar-2003 pc: 4ADH13 w: David Fury d: Jefferson Kibbee

NOTE: Faith returns, after spending 2 1/2 years in jail.

The knife that the fellow convict used in attempting kill Faith is of the same design used by the Harbingers to kill potential slayers, this season on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This sheds light on who or what put out the contract on Faith.

The actress playing the woman who attempted to kill Faith in jail also played the assasin cop in What's My Line (2) [BTVS]

The scene where it appears that Angelus has just fed off Lilah is highly reminiscent of the scene in the Buffy season 1 episode "Angel" where Buffy walks in and her mother is in Angel's arms.

This is Stephanie Romanov's (Lilah) final appearance on the show after recurring for the past four seasons.

This episode marks the death of The Beast.

The Beast is killed with his own weapon. It is not the first time the writers have used this. In Buffy episode "Pangs" she finally defeats the Indian Spirit by stabbing him with his own weapon. Angel was there due to a crossover.

This ends the forever night.

When Angelus says "That was Angel's retarded fnatasy" regarding the sun coming back, he is referring to the episode, "Awakening."

Everyone thought this was Stephanie Romanov's last episode but she comes back to life in 4x22 Home to guide Angel and the gang.

Faith's assassination attempt occured in this episode, and in the BTVS episode 'Dirty Girls' Faith refers to it when telling Willow that Buffy "could have given her a head's up."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

80. Release

gs: Eliza Dushku (Faith) Christopher Neiman (Frotor Demon) Paul Tigue (Reg) Catalina Larranaga (Vamp Waitress)

Wesley takes Faith to his appartment, where she has a shower and cleans herself up. Wesley wants Faith to be more powerful and tries to make her angry by calling her a 'rabid dog', but she doesn't enjoy the violence as much as she used to.

Angelus visits a bar where he discovers that other demons and vampires are not happy about the sun returning to Los Angeles, so he has become very unpopular.

He hears a voice of the Beast's master, it keeps pestering him about it's plans for him and informs him that it has his soul.

At the same time Cordelia is in bed talking in secret to Angelus. Connor walks in and she stops, but reminds Connor to keep their child a secret.

Angelus later enters the hotel looking for a book. He is immune to Lorne's recent sanctuary spell, because of an amulet that he is holding. Fred notices that the amulet is fake and hits him. Angelus grabs Wesley and threatens to kill him, but then he just exits the hotel.

Faith and Wesley later visit a bar where Angelus was last seen, they question a girl about his current location. When she refuses to talk, Wesley stabs her in the shoulder. This makes Faith surprisingly upset. When the girl finally talks, they discover where Angelus is, and that whoever the Beast worked for now has control of Angelus.

Wesley and Faith go to a warehouse, where they see Angelus. He plays with Faith's emotions, he says that she will always be a killer, she could never change. After a very long battle, Faith says "I'm not like you". Angelus gets the upper hand, leans towards her neck and says "soon you will be".

b: 12-Mar-2003 pc: 4ADH14 w: Steven S. DeKnight , Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain d: James A. Contner

NOTE: As of this episode Andy Hallett (Lorne) is now a series regular and appears in the opening credits.

The Song that comes on when Faith is in the shower and in the Demon bar is a song that was featured in the unaired promo for the Angel series premeire

This may have been mentioned before: In "To Shanshu in L.A.", Wesley reads in the prophecy that "the vampire with a soul" will become human many years from now, after many trials, one of which is "the coming darkness." Could the recent blocking out of the sun be the "darkness" this referred to?

All the other vampires seem to still treat Angel like a rock star even though he brought the sun back.

Gunn and Winifred kiss again after they broke up.

Angelus mentions choices and consequences to Faith, a possible reference to two episode titles from season three of BtVS.

Wesley makes mention of Faith's torture session from season one's "Five by Five".

The bar that Angelus hangs out at is quite like the warehouse from the Buffy episode 5x10 'Into the Woods' where then-cast member 'Riley' would go and have vampires feed off of him

There are many strong shadows of season one episode "Five by Five." We have Wesley asking Faith if she's "In the game". Faith of course was concerned to get Angel "in the game" in the season one episode, now the roles are reversed.

Once again Wesley is gets drawn into the Angel/Faith duel. Faith: "This is between you and me" Angel: "It's never between you and me, Wes is always in the middle".

Andy Hallett's joining of the main cast marks the first time since Wesley replaced Doyle in Season 1 that a cast member has joined mid-season

In 7x03 "Same Time, Same Place", Spike said "Button, Button, Who's got the button?" Cordy puts a twist on this by saying "Soul, Soul, Who's got your soul?" to Angelus.

The name of the song that plays when Faith is in the shower and it cuts to the demon bar is "Here" by VAST.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

81. Orpheus

gs: Eliza Dushku (Faith) Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg) Adrienne Wilkinson (Flapper) Peter Renaday (Master's Voice)

Angelus is feeding on Faith when suddenly he faints. Faith had earlier injected a drug into her blood, making it very lethal.

Faith is very near death. She is brought back to the hotel along with a now captured Angelus, who is locked in his cage. Faith is in a coma state, and Angelus is unconscious. The gang are watching over Faith, while keeping an eye on Angelus.

We are taken into Angelus' mind, where he and Faith are watching Angel perform good deeds.

Willow arrives at the hotel, ready to restore Angel's soul. She performs a spell which requires concentration, Cordelia is countering the spell from her room, but Willow overpowers her and the soul is set free.

Everyone is still clueless about Cordelia, including Willow.

After being released, Angel is now able to commune with Faith and Angelus in the dream. He and Faith take on Angelus together, but Faith gets badly beaten. She is close to giving up, when Angel gives her some pep talk.

As we are taken back to reality, we can see Faith shaking and crying in her coma. Suddenly, she gets up and walks down to the basement of the hotel.

She stops Connor from staking a sleeping Angelus, right before the spell registers.Angel wakes up, dazed and confused.

Willow tells Faith and the gang about the recent events in Sunnydale, then she leaves, taking Faith with her.

Cordelia comes downstairs and tells them the worst isn't behind them, as she reveals her pregnant form.

b: 19-Mar-2003 pc: 4ADH15 w: Mere Smith d: Terrence O'Hara

NOTE: Alyson Hannigan (Willow) guest starring on "Angel" puts an end to WB & UPN's rule of not having main cast members from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on "Angel" and vice versa.

The Buffy episode, Dirty Girls, will pick up where the Faith storyline left off in Orpheus.

This is the 2nd time Faith goes into a coma due to loss of blood (the first time being in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episodes "Graduation Day Parts 1 & 2")

This episode will supposedly be postponed, because the Buffy Episode "Lies our Parents Told Us" comes first in the timeline.

This episode finally explains what happened to Angel to make him a big mess living off of rats in the 90's, when we've seen him in other flashbacks (from the 20's and 70's) looking much better.

Orpheus is what the drug is called that Faith injected to put down Angelus.

Angel listens to Barry Manilow's "Mandy" in his flashback. This is the same song he sang in "Judgement" because he "thinks it's pretty."

The gang in LA now knows about Willow turning bad at the end of Buffy Season 6. Also, Willow knows that Angel has a son.

The line "No, but I ate her with it" could be a reference to the episode of Buffy "Lies my parents told me."

Willow asking Cordy how she has been (Higher being) and responding herself (Ultimate evil) is reminiscent of Amy and Buffy catching up (Amy had been Rat and Buffy had been Dead) in Buffy, season 6 "Smashed".

Because many viewers missed the end of the episode due to breaking news on March 19, the episode was scheduled for rebroadcast on Sunday, March 23, at 9pm eastern/8pm central, replacing the previously scheduled airing of the movie "Blade."

The connection between Faith and Angel seems to resemble the connection between Buffy and the Master after he fed on her in "Prophecy Girl".

Angelus' line "What did you do?" after drinking Faith's Orpheused blood, resembles Lestat's line after Claudia poisened the blood of two children in order to disable him in Ann Rice's 1994 classic "Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire chronicles"

The line "No, but I ate her with it" is a reference to Angelus having killed his whole family shortly after being sired by Darla. Similar references have appeared in both series in the past.

The role of the murdered donut shop cashier is played by Nate Dushku, Eliza's brother.

Wouldn't you think that Willow, just in passing, might have mentioned to Angel that there is now another vampire with a soul (Spike)?

Alyson Hannigan is credited as a Special Guest Star and so is Eliza Dushku. In the past, Eliza was just credited under the Guest Starring list.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 82. Players

gs: Dana Lee (Takeshi Morimoto) Alexa Davalos (Gwen Raiden) David Monahan (Garrett)

After discovering that Cordelia is pregnant, the gang research what type of demon the offspring could be.

Meanwhile, Gunn helps Gwen rescue a girl named Lisa from a posh house party, but realises that he has been tricked when L.I.S.A. turns out to be Gwen's latest stolen item.

b: 26-Mar-2003 pc: 4ADH16 w: Jeffrey Bell , Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain d: Michael Grossman

NOTE: In an interview, series-creator Joss Whedon stated that he has hidden several dirty jokes throughout many of the episodes this season. One such joke occurs in this episode, when Angel attempts to rememer what was written about the Beast's Master in a demon book, and it translates into "strangling poultry."**(choking chicken)**

The gang finally discover that Cordy is evil although it isn't revealed how or why yet.

Gwen and Gunn appear to get very intimate with one another at the end of this episode.

According to the closed captions at the end, Cordy says definitely when it shows up on the 8 Ball.

Charisma Carpenter (Cordy) gave birth March 24th, two days before this episode aired, to her son Donovan Charles Hardy.

Gwen loses her virginity... to Gunn.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

83. Inside Out

gs: Julie Benz (Darla) David Denman (Skip) Gina Torres (Cordelia's Offspring)

Desperate to find out why Cordelia has turned to the dark side, Angel goes to demon Skip for answers. Forcing the truth out of him, Angel learns that all that's transpired; Connor's birth, Cordelia's ascension to the higher plane, Angel turning into Angelus and Cordelia's pregnancy, were all a part of a higher being's plan to create something even more powerful than itself.

Meanwhile, Cordelia and Connor go into hiding in order to protect their unborn child. After Cordelia feeds Connor a few lies, he is forced to make a decision, which leads him to a confrontation with his dead mother.

b: 02-Apr-2003 pc: 4ADH17 w: Steven S. DeKnight d: Steven S. DeKnight

NOTE: TV Guide recognized this episode by doing a Close-up on it the week it aired.

Skip says to Angel that "nobody comes back from paradise". Then he added "maybe a slayer once". Obviously he's refering to Buffy who was being brought back by the Scooby gang in the beginning episodes of BtVS season six, after she died saving the world in the season five finale.

This is the first time Connor meets Darla, his mother, since she died the same second he was 'born'.

For a brief second, you see the drawing Angel drew of Cordelia in "Ground State".

When Skip is killed, his line "No, thats not right" (or something similar to that) is kinda similar to the line Mr. Trick had when killed in Buffy's Season 3 episode Consequences. His line right after Faith stakes him was, "Oh, no. No, this is no good at all."

Somebody on the writing staff must really like buffalo wings - they seem to be the appetizer of choice for demons and vampires, since Clem and Spike over on Buffy like them too.

Skip says "Those things never work" regarding the gun firing at him is the same thing Buffy said in "Flooded" regarding guns against demons.

The appearance of Connor's mother, Darla, trying to help him is similar to the appearance of Joyce to Buffy and Dawn.

The choice Angel made over killing Cordelia parallels the choice Buffy made over killing Angelus.

This is the first time Angel admits his love for Cordelia infront of everyone.

This episode marks the death of Skip

Angel actually stops short of saying he loves Cordelia. 'She's still Cordelia, she's still the woman...'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

84. Shiny Happy People

gs: Gina Torres (Jasmine) Lyle Kanouse (Counter Guy)

Cordelia lies unconcious while her offspring stands next to her.

Angel and the gang are suddenly clueless and think that the woman has just arrived, assuming she is in trouble. She tells them that she needs help destroying the extra demons that have been surfacing since the darkness came. She tells the gang that if they want Cordelia to wake up, they will need to help her.

They follow her around town, where everyone appears to be kneeling before her and praising her. One man named John calls her a monster, saying she isn't as good as she claims and attacks her. >Angel viciously intervenes and beats him within an inch of his life.

Afterwards, Fred is frantically trying to get the woman's blood out of her shirt from where she was attacked. Fred scrubs so hard that her fingers bleed, but still cant get it out. When she goes to break the bad news to the woman, she sees her perfect face has been replaced by maggots. Fred keeps this to herself.

A week later, Fred visits John in Psychiatric hospital. He tells her that it is Angel's mission to destroy the being.

Fred rushes back to the hotel, which is full of people worshipping the woman. She tells Wesley about John's suspicions, but he and the rest of the gang have been brainwashed by the woman.

As Fred leaves, Wesley tells Angel and the woman what she said. They prepare to hunt her down, as she is now a threat.

b: 09-Apr-2003 pc: 4ADH18 w: Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain d: Marita Grabiak

NOTE: Gina Torres recently played a starring role in Firefly, also by Joss Whedon. And on Buffy, the actor who played the Firefly's captain, Nathan Fillion, is Caleb, the season's final villain. I guess Joss felt bad about their show being cancelled.

The story Jasmine tells the crew about her being around before there were men was simular to the story of the First Slayer told in a seventh season episode of Buffy called "Get It Done" where it was told that before there were men there were demons.

The suggestion of the name 'Helen' could be a reference to Gina Torres in Cleopatra 2525 when she had this name

When Jasmine says to Connor, "You can tell me anything," and he says back, "Cordelia used to say that to me," the show is slyly hinting at the fact that Cordelia was being controlled by Jasmine when she was pregnant so it was really Jasmine saying it all along and the gang is too hypno-happy to remember. Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) does not speak in this episode.

'Helen' is not the only suggested name that is a reference to the Trojan War. 'Iphagenia' (check spelling) was the daughter of Agamemnon, and she was sacrificed by her father so that his ships would safely make it to Troy.

Gunn's Grandmother's name is Helen.

Cordelia has no dialogue and does not move at all despite being billed as a regular.

In the two-parter series premier of Buffy, Giles also mentions that demons once roamed a humanless Earth and that it was hoped humans would bring a balance to the good and evil. But before the demons were cast out one fed of a human mixing their blood and creating the first vampire.

85. The Magic Bullet

gs: Gina Torres (Jasmine) Zakk Wylde (Himself) Patrick Fischler (Ted) Danny Woodburn (Creature)

With everyone looking for her, Fred hides out in a demon's lair. When she discovers that he isn't a vegetarian, she kills him with an axe.

She visits a bookstore to try and make some sense of what's happening. The owner gives her a gun, but they are interrupted by Jasmine and her followers. Fred aims the gun so that it will pass through Jasmine then Angel and shoots. After being shot, Angel looks at Jasmine and sees her true form.

The followers begin to attack Fred, but Angel grabs her and they escape. Fred explains that in order for anyone to see Jasmine's true form, they must share their blood with hers. Angel comes up with an idea. They sneak back into the hotel, where Cordelia is lying in one of the rooms. Angel cuts her hand and takes some of her blood, as it is maternally the same as Jasmine's blood.

Lorne comes into the room and sees them, but Angel quickly cuts him and mixes the blood. Angel, Fred and Lorne search for Gunn and Wesley. When they find them, they repeat the mixing process. When the gang find Connor, they cut his chest and rub in the blood. Connor looks shocked, but then calls out to Jasmine to let her know they are there.

b: 16-Apr-2003 pc: 4ADH19 w: Jeffrey Bell d: Jeffrey Bell

NOTE: When Lorne says, "You know what they say about people who need people." And Connor replies, "They're the luckiest people in the world." This is similar to what Doyle said to Cordy in I Fall to Pieces.

the name of the book store Fred goes into is called "the magic bullet books"

Fred talks about the shiny happy people - the name of the last episode.

This is the second episode Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) does not speak.

Fred and Angel share a kiss

Once again, we get to know that Jasmine controlled Cordelia before when she says Connor: "My sweet boy"

In the previews for this episode, the WB completely misled the audience by playing it up like the kiss between Angel and Fred was something serious and not just a ploy to avoid attention.

The creature who Fred encounters underground was played by Danny Woodburn who's played nummerous memerable roles such as Mickey on Seinfeld.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

86. Sacrifice

gs: Gina Torres (Jasmine) Micah Henson (Matthew)

Angel and the gang escape from the hotel, decide to hide out in the sewers in order to escape from Jasmine and her followers. While walking around, they encounter a large group of teenagers. They tell the gang about a bug-like creature dwelling in the sewers. Wesley is captured by the creature and takes him to it's lair, where it is piling up bodies for a sacrifice.

The creature tells Wesley that Jasmine was originally their God and they loved her first. She had a name that had power over her, but only one creature knows it. The creature lives in Jasmine's dimension. Wesley asks how they get to the dimension, but the creature tells him that there is no oxygen in the dimension and the only way to get there is by using his orb.

Angel finds Wesley and brutally kills the creature. Wesley picks up the orb and smears blood on it, opening a portal. Since Angel is the only one who can live without oxygen, he jumps in...

b: 23-Apr-2003 pc: 4ADH20 w: Ben Edlund d: David Straiton

NOTE: This is at least the third time this season Angel/Angelus has won a tough fight with a demon using the new "kill it with it's own parts" theory.

In this episode we find out Jasmine?s real name is top secret. Skip referred to it in Inside Out when se said he only called her Master or "hey..."

Although he's a "self appointed slayer" Gunn is apparently very afraid of rats.

Music from the blissful opening scene is "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by The Beach Boys.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

87. Peace Out

gs: Gina Torres (Jasmine) Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan)

While Lorne, Wesley, Fred and Gunn are being held captive in the hotel basement, Angel finds himself in Jasmine's previous dimension. There he encounters a High Priest and a giant demon, who can reveal Jasmine for who she really is. However, Angel must kill the priest and behead the demon in order to bring the head back to Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Jasmine is preparing for a giant broadcast to the world, where she will declare peace. She refuses to tell Connor where Cordelia is and orders him to guard Angel's crew. Instead, he sneaks off to a nearby church and finds Cordelia lying unconcious.

When Angel arrives back in Los Angeles, he brings out the head and Jasmine becomes her true self. Most of her followers and Angel try to kill her, but it is Connor who finally ends her existence, allowing a lot of pain to be released back into the world. The Senior Partners of Wolfram and Hart like what they see and send Lilah to plan a meeting with Angel Investigations.

b: 30-Apr-2003 pc: 4ADH21 w: David Fury d: Jefferson Kibbee

NOTE: This episode marks the death of Jasmine

This episode marks the return of Lilah Morgan.

A sign in front of the church reads: 'God is nowhere. Jasmine in the way.' "God is nowhere" was an important part of the plot to David Greenwalt's ('Angel' consulting producer and writer) ill-fated ABC series 'Miracles'. Greenwalt left the executive producer role of 'Angel' at the end of season 3 to be an executive producer at 'Miracles'.

The temple were Angel is to find Jasmine's real names looks a bit like the location where the Beast offers its (off-camera) master a knife forged of his bones from "Calvary".

The episode of Buffy that aired the same week as this one ("Empty Places") similarly featured police officers acting strangely as if under a strange hold.

Gunn's line "Never give up, never surrender" is Commander Taggart/Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen)'s catchphrase in the film Galaxy Quest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

88. Home

gs: Stephanie Romanov (Lilah Morgan)

Angel Investigations are made an offer they can't refuse, when a newly opened Wolfram and Hart give them the opportunity to work there, allowing them access to every secret file and rewarding Angel with a file on the Sunnydale apocalypse.

Meanwhile, Connor realises he has no future with a loving family and goes on an insane rampage, taking hostage families from a nearby mall. When Angel discovers what's going on, he is offered a chance to give Connor what he desires, even if it means giving him up.

b: 07-May-2003 pc: 4ADH22 w: Tim Minear d: Tim Minear

NOTE: Season Finale.

This season finale airs the week before the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "End of Days" airs. That will be the first of the two-part BtVS Series Finale in which David Boreanaz will return as Angel.

Angel leaves Los Angeles to help Buffy in Sunnydale. Connor's memories of Angel and his past are replaced with memories of growing up with a different loving family. As a result of this, everyone else's memories are changed apart from Angel's.

Lilah has a contract with Wolfram & Hart which goes through into the afterlife.

Seems Angel has to live with a lot of memories others don't have. He also has the memory of his brief stint as a human, when he was with Buffy.

Jonathan M. Woodward, who plays Fred's science guide, also apeared on an episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" this season. He played Buffy's vampire "psychiatrist", Holden, in the episode "Conversations with Dead People."

The season finale of Angel: Season 4 and the season finale of Buffy: Season 4 are quite similiar. 1) Both seasons ended with the 'big bad' dying not in the finale, but the episode before 2) Both finales separate the characters through most of the show 3) Both feature a jaguar (not the car) 4) Both set up the plot for the next season 5) Both end on a melancholy note

Wes didn't seem to surprised that the Watchers Council is no more.

This episode was written so that it would double as both a new beginning for the next season and as a series finale if the show didn't get renewed.

Rutherford tells Wesley that there is no council. This is a reference to the Buffy episode "Never Leave Me" where the entire Watchers Council was destroyed in an explosion.

In the scene where Angel and Connor are talking in the mall, in the background of Angel's shots are some black jerseys that say "Angels" on them.

The last scene of this episode is similar to the toast scene in the first episode of season 4.

I really do think Wesley knew the council was no more, he's well informed, there could have been phone calls, they don't show it all... He was in n o way surprised, eh even said it in that way..

Lilah more-or-less repeated the same speech to Angel that he said to Connor in "Deep Down", the Season 4 premere.
