The three of us decided to crash a Rotary meeting tonight. After all, it is stupid to have to be invited. Nobody seemed too mad.
Mon. 1/9
Today, Darago took us to Debrecen. It was pretty nice. It was us three and the 2 outbounds. We saw pretty much the whole city. I'm beginning to warm to Darago and Rotary.
Monday 1/26
Well, going to theatre classes paid off finally. We're going to do "The Sound of Music," and I'm going to be Uncle Max. Of course, it is actually a shortened version of the show, so I only have about 2 lines, but its fun anyway.
Tues. 1/22
It finally snowed! I was so happy today - we got about 2 inches. Finally!
Also, I got a "Christmas/birthday" present from Pierce (Smith - a good American friend of mine). I didn't really realize how much I missed American chocolate until I got the package. I also got an American measuring cup, which is maybe the best thing, because now I can make brownies from the boxes I brought. Yay!
Wed. 1/ 22
After school today I climbed the Magas Hegy ("High Hill"), thinking I could rent skis and go skiing. But everything was closed. I was frustrated.
Later that night, Pete, Nadia, and I went out walking. We bought some wine and sat in the park drinking, until we saw a bunch of little kids having a snowball fight. So we joined in. It was great! It was more fun, because Nadia had never been in a snowball fight before. We were there for about 2 and a half hours before the "party" started to break up.
Thurs. 1/23
Today I taught Nadia to ski. We went to the small hill behind the hospital. In spite of the fact that there was virtually no snow, it was really fun. She actually did pretty well for her first time out. Even though her skis were too long, she could turn a bit by the end of the day.
Sat. 1/25
Nadia and I went to Miskolc today. That is a great city. All the stores were closed on the main street, so we went to the mall and hung out. We caught a movie - "Meet the Parents" - in Hungarian. At first we were mad, but we ended up understanding most everything, so it was actually pretty cool.
Mon. 1/27
Nadia and I went to the movies again. There were some Gypsy kids there. At first I was a bit apprehensive - I'd been told a lot of bad stuff about the Gypsies - but they started talking to us and were actually very decent people. Then the woman in charge of the theatre came out to see if there were more than 10 people (if there are less than 10, the movie doesn't play). She refused to let they Gypsy kids in. It was really terrible.
