The sculptor's attitude

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight.
I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important.
My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or ...
I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or ...
I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health or ...
I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or ...
I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns or ...
I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends or ...
I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work or ...
I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school or ...
eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework ...
or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.
And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.
What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Have a GREAT DAY ... unless you have other plans.

I know something good about you

Wouldn't this old world be better
If the folks we meet would say, "I know something good about you!"
And then treat us just that way?

Wouldn't it be fine and dandy If each handclasp warm and true
Carried with it this assurance, "I know something good about you!"

Wouldn't life be lots more happy, if the good that's in us all
Were the only thing about us' that folks bothered to recall?

Wouldn't life be lots more happy, If we praised the good we see? -
For there's such a lot of goodness in the worst of you and me.

Wouldn't it be nice to practice that fine way of thinking, too?-
You know something good about me! I know something good about you!

You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.

The tongue weighs practically nothing,
But so few people can hold it.

Relationships

The most important ingredient we put into any relationship is not what we say or what we do, but what we are. And if our words and our actions come from superficial human relations techniques (the Personality Ethic) rather than from our own inner core (the Character Ethic), others will sense that duplicity. We simply won't be able to create and sustain the foundation necessary for effective interdependence.
- Stephen R. Covey

Patience

In any contest between power and patience, bet on patience.
- W. B. Prescott

Anger

Consider how much more you often suffer from your anger and grief, than from those very things for which you are angry and grieved.
- Marcus Antonius

Optimism

Positive thinking is the key to success in business,
education, pro football, anything that you can mention.
I go out there thinking that I'm going to complete every pass.
- Ron Jaworski

Planning

Make your mold. The best flux in the world will not make a usable shape unless you have a mold to pour it in.

Giving

It is possible to give without loving, but it is impossible to love without giving.
