Fast Food Worker Injuries
MOST TEEN WORKER INJURIES IN RESTAURANTS OCCUR IN FAST FOOD.
The majority of injuries to teen workers in fast food restaurants occurred in hamburger restaurants.
Nearly half of all burn injuries involved hot grease. Many of these injuries can be prevented by training employees in safe work practices.
If you get hurt on the job,
tell your boss right away. If you are under 18, tell your parents or guardians too.
Your employer is required by law to provide workers' compensation benefits.
I have talked with many teens working in the fast food industry. One of the most surprising events has been the handling of burn injuries. In many cases when employees notified their supervisor about their injury they were ignored and told to go back to work. They were not given medical attention or notified of any workers compensation benefits.
Has this ever happened to you? I am doing research in this area. I would like to hear your story. I would also like to know how it was handled by your employer. This information could be valuable to fast food workers everywhere.
