In ages past, around the 863 year of the Crystal Era, Vana'diel was in the midst of a Great War, against the Dark Lord and the Dark Hordes of the Beastmen.
This War lasted several years until the dark Lord was defeated...or so they said...
During the last battles of La'Theine Plateau, Castle Zvhal, Sauromugue and the Temple of Uggalepih against The Dark Lord...it is said, that a scout near the coast of Mhaura brought a message to our King. The message told of an encounter with an unknown ship of Dark Warriors...
One of the Royal Knight's who fought in the encounter managed to escape with some documents; documents that showed a map of a new and uncharted continent and plans of a massive army that was to gather in a place known only as Mamool.
The great Dragon King of the Kingdom of San d'Oria along with the allied Kings of the kingdoms of Bastok, Windurst and Jeuno gathered together in secrecy to discuss the possibility of a terrible threat to future generations of Vana'diel. The Dragon King feared that this new breed of Darkness would decimate the Kingdom's...
...something had to be done...but what?....
The wise MageKing of Windurst had a plan....
...gather one of the best of each race and send them to learn the ways of all kingdoms so that they may then form strong armies to fight the new dark threat that was still to come...
All the Kings agreed with this plan. The Dragon King of San d'Oria felt that to protect his people, only someone with the ability to equally balance all abilities and arts would be worthy to represent San d'Oria in this great calling. Someone who could wield all the magics and forces of nature and undermine the dark forces with their own knowledge. Therefore, this someone would have to make a sacrifice. A sacrifice that not many would easily make...
He would have to sacrifice some of his goodness and love to learn the dark arts of black magic, the art of killing, the art....of the Enemy! A small price to pay for the Greater Good of the many, but would anyone be willing to take such a task?...
There was one!....and from him and all those he trained a new Breed of Knights was formed,... a Knight who was of Service, a Knight of Honor, a Knight of Valor, a Knight of Courage, of Loyalty to God, to his King, to his Grandmaster, to his Family, to all the people around him and most importantly to himself and his word. A Knight who would not run from battle, but instead be willing to give his life for the weak and those who fight along with him. A Knight who cares not for riches, but gives to those in need. A Knight who will undergo great trials and pains to see the innocent prevail. These Great Knight's would be the Blade, the Strength and the Power that would destroy all those who oppose whats good and those who dare to threaten our Kingdoms and the peace they cherish!
...and so...
The Knights of Darkness arose!...
...sworn to protect the Kingdom of San d'Oria and all those in need. Knights of whom you will now be a part of!
Go train, learn the arts, protect the people and vow your oath to your King and Kingdom so that you too may be known in the pages of history as one of the greatest knights to ever live and fight for the peace Of Vana 'diel!
