Bast is the Goddess of Protection for women, children, and Cats. She is Goddess of the sunrise and is also known as a goddess of love, fertility, birth, music and dance. Bast is also the Goddess of the moon. She possesses the all seeing eye of her brother Horus called the Utchat.
The "Feast Of Bast" is celebrated on October 31. This Mardi Gras like "Feast of Bast" was celebrated with much merry making, music, dancing, drinking.
In Her earliest forms Bast is portrayed as a lion-headed Goddess, like her twin sister - Sekhmet.
After 1000 B.C.E., Bast is depicted with the body of young woman with the head of a domestic cat. She is also portrayed as a seated cat, and when in this form her name changes to Bastet. Pasch is recorded in extremely ancient documents as being an older version of Her name. We get the modern English word “passion” from Pasch.
Bast is one of Ra's daughters. Her worship began around 3200 B.C.E. Bast's sacred city is Bubastis, located in northern Egypt.
Her sacred color is green.
