The movie opens in a cinema in Buenos Aires, the date, July 26, 1952.
A movie, in Spanish, is playing on the screen, when suddenly, the film
reel shudders to a stop, the crowd roars their displeasure, and a man
presumed to be the manager of the theater appears on stage. He utters
words that no one in that theater will ever forget: Eva Peron has died.
The patrons of the theater break down in tears, sobbing, and find their
way to the nearest exit. Through it all, Che, the narrator, sits in
one of the theater's seats, looking about thoughtfully, as though pondering
exactly what this means, and where the country will go next.
