The song starts out between Peron and Eva. They are discussing the possibility of someone causing harm to one or both of them over the presidency of Argentina. Eva tells Peron that all he has to do is sit and wait for chaos to break out, and he'll get the power he wants. He, however, would almost rather leave the country than risk getting hurt in any way. Eva, however, ends up convincing otherwise.

Then Peron gets arrested. While he is imprisoned, Eva campaigns for him wholeheartedly, making impassioned pleas and speeches to the people, telling why Peron deserves to become president of Argentina. Finally, after the people revolt, the government decides to release Peron, and Eva captures her prize:

Eva and Peron get married.

As they are walking out of the church, Che laments that it's a shame that they had to establish their authority by causing revolts and revolutions. However, in spite of growing public opinion in this vein, Peron is elected president of Argentina.
