"Goodnight and Thank You" tells the story of Eva's rise on the social ladder, by way of various men's bedrooms. She goes through 3 men in thee song, and at the end, is with yet another one. Each one get's her slightly higher on the ladder of success, until finally, the stage is set, and the only way she can go any higher is through Colonel Juan Peron, who enters the scene in the next song.

Che and Eva sing "Goodnight and Thank You." Che offers solice to her jilted suitors, telling them that's what she's like, but if they were in her place, they'd be doing the same thing. And indeed, they probably would, but at the moment, their egos are bruised because a lowly woman got the best of them.
