For the first time in the movie, we get some real history of what was going on in the country while Eva's star was rising. As the song states, in 1943, the military over-threw the government, pushing the rulers out of office and installing it's own form of government. Peron was, in a way, a mastermind behind the over-throw. He seemed to be patiently waiting until the stage was set before he moved in.

There was an earthquake in late 1943/early 1944 in San Juan, which lead Colonel Peron to hold a fund-raiser for the residents of the town. It was at this event that the paths of Eva Duarte and Colonel Juan Peron finally crossed.
