Chapter 2

It was Monday afternoon and I was walking home from school. Josh was in detention (don't ask). I walked home slowly, looking up in the sky. People say I'm like my dad. A sort of day-dreamer. I guess maybe it's true. Josh is more like mom-a warrior. And Hannie's just...well...Hannie. "Hey! Hey Kathy! Wait up! Kath!" I suddenly heard from behind me. I spun around and saw Emily running to catch up with me. "Hi, Em," I said when she caught up with me. "Hi," she replied, out of breath. "What's up?" I asked as we started walking together through the fallen autum leaves. "Nothing. Why are you walking home by yourself?" she asked. "Josh got detention," I said and then added, "again." We both laughed. "So, are you coming over our house for dinner tonight?" I asked her. "Yeah," she answered, smiling. We chatted for a little bit and soon arrived at her house. "Bye!" I shouted as she went inside. "See ya!" she replied and waved. Then I headed towards my house, which is right down the street from Emily's. When I got there, I saw Hannie playing in the yard with her dolls. "Hey, Hannie," I said to her. "Hi. Wanna play with me?" she asked hopefully. "Maybe later, okay? Where's mom and dad?" I asked. "Inside," she replied. I went inside. "Hi, Kathy. Where's your brother?" mom and dad asked me when I walked into the livingroom. "Detention," I replied, putting my books on the table. "What? Again? What did he do now?" dad asked. "Well, in Science class he threatened to beat someone to a pulp," I said. Suddenly mom just burst out laughing. "That sounds like something I would have said when I was his age!" she exclaimed, still laughing. Dad laughed, too. All of the sudden the door burst open and Josh came in. "Stupid teachers," he kept mumbling and stomped upstairs to his room. Mom and dad just raised their eyebrows. I laughed and grabbed my books, running up to my room. Before going into my room I went into Josh's room, which is across from mine. "Hey, Josh," I said, poking my head in his room. "Hi," he mumbled. "What happened in detention?" I asked. "Not much. Dumb teachers always making innocent kids stay after," he answered, turning on his computer. I laughed. "Hey, look! My friend Todd's IMing me!" he suddenly exclaimed once he was online. I walked over to the computer. It said: Koolguy_499: Hey Josh, u there?. Josh smiled and started typing like a nutso. I rolled my eyes and went into my room. I put my books on my desk and opened one. Math. Yuck. After awhile I heard dad yell, "Hey kids, your uncle, aunt, and cousins are coming over in a little while!" "Yeah!" I heard Hannie yell from in her room, which is next to mine. Dad laughed. I finally finished my homework and went downstairs into the livingroom. I threw myself onto the couch and flicked on the T.V. Then I heard the doorbell ring and Hannie fly down the stairs screaming,"I'LL GET IT!" She flung open the door. It was Uncle Jake, Aunt Cassie, Emily, and Logan. "Hi!" everyone said. Mom came up to the door and let them in, which Hannie obviously wasn't going to do. "Hi, Rachel," Aunt Cassie and Uncle Jake said to mom. Rachel. That's my mom's name. Dad came into the room, too. "Hi, Tobias," they said to dad. Tobias. That's my dad's name. I've always thought that Tobias and Rachel were weird names. You never hear them now a-days. Josh and I appeared at the same time. "Hi," we said. Then the adults went into the kitchen to talk and us kids went outside. Josh and Logan played some basketball while Emily and I played with Hannie and her dolls. Then Logan went back to his house and brought back their dog, Homer Jr. We played with him for awhile and it started getting dark out. "Here, Homer! Fetch the stick!" Josh yelled as he threw the twig. Homer ran to get it. But, when he caught the stick, he seemed to not care about it anymore. He must have heard something or saw something because all of the sudden he just took off. "Woof! Woof!" he barked, running down the street. "Homer, no!" Emily yelled. Then we all started chasing after him. Even Hannie, running as fast as her little legs could go. "Homer, come back!" we yelled. He totally ignored us. We were all the way down the street when we heard: "Joshua, Katheryn, Hannah, Logan, and Emilia, get over here this instant!!" Uh-oh. We were in BIG TROUBLE. We know we're in BIG TROUBLE when our parents use our whole names. We slowly walked back to our house. The adults yelled at us for awhile, and then helped us look for Homer Jr. We found him in an old construction site nearby. Our parents quickly rushed us out of the site, like they didn't want to be there. We looked at eachother and shrugged, then went back home.
