Chapter 4

*Hi everyone* I said as I flew into the barn. Everybody was already there, yawning and wiping sleep from their eyes. "Hi," they mumbled. "Okay, let's all stick together. Only Cassie and I know a little bit of what she looks like. We only saw a short glimpse of her. Right, Cass?" Jake said, looking at Cassie. She nodded and yawned. "Let's morph into birds," Jake added. Everyone started morphing into their various bird morphs, except me. *Ready?* I asked when they were done morphing. *Let's do it!* Rachel shouted. *Aww, man!* Marco wailed. We flew out of the barn and towards Jake's neighborhood. *So, do you actually know what this girl looks like?* I asked. *Well...not exactly. But we'll recognize her if we see her* Jake answered. *Oh,great. Then we could be searching for hours* Marco complained. *Hey, Prince Jake* Ax started. *What?* asked Jake. *I believe I see your older sibling* We looked down and saw Tom walking down the street. Who would ever guess that there's a slimy slug wrapped around his brain? *I wonder why he's up so early* Rachel wondered. We landed on the roof of Jake's house and decided which direction to go in. *Right* *No, left* *Up that street* *Down that street* *What is a street?* We argued a little and finally decided to go right. After awhile Cassie cried, *There she is!* We all looked down. There was a girl, a little younger than us, walking on the sidewalk. She had long, wavy brown hair and hazel eyes that seemed to be looking at nothing and everything at the same time. Strange, huh? *Okay, let's go down and demorph* Jake said, already descending. We followed him and found a spot to demorph where nobody would see us. I morphed human, and so did Ax. Okay, so we were all wearing our morphing outfits and no shoes, but atleast we looked semi-normal. We ran up to the girl. "Hi," said Rachel. The girl looked confused. "Ummm...hi," she replied slowly. "Who are you?" Marco asked. Jake shoved him. "Why?" she asked. Well, she wasn't dumb. Strange, though. For some reason she looked familiar...nah, I'm just going insane. That happens when you spend most of your time as a hawk. Geez, like I have any choice. "We're doind a survey," Jake said. "Umm...I've gotta get going," the girl said, walking away. Well, we totally scared her off. "Wait, does he look familiar?" Jake asked, pointing to Ax. The girl turned around and made a kind of gasping noise. "We have to explain something to you," Jake said to her. "Follow us," Cassie said, taking her hand. Surprisingly, she came. Nobody said anything on the way to Cassie's barn. We all just sort of stared at her. Poor girl. We couldn't help it. She looked so confused. When we arrived at the barn we sat down in some hay and started to tell her everything. Jake didn't think it was a good idea at first, but there was something that told us we could trust her. We told her everything and she just sat there in total disbelief. "I know. Jake, why don't you morph to prove that everything we said is true?" Cassie said suddenly. "Okay," answered Jake. He focused on his tiger DNA. And slowly, ever so slowly, he started changing. The girl's eyes got wide and she quietly murmured, "Ohmigosh." "Now do you believe us?" Rachel asked. The girl nodded, not taking her eyes off the tiger. Then Jake demorphed. "Now you know everything. Can you keep it all a secret?" Jake asked her. The girl nodded again. "What's your name?" Cassie asked. "Kara," the girl replied. Kara. Her name sounded familiar, too. I'm not sure why. I mean, I've never met her in my life. We introduced ourselves and learned a little bit more about her. She lives with her aunt who makes her take lots of dance lessons at her sister's (her aunt's sister's) dance school. She also goes to a private middle school and her parents died when she was about 3. She gave us more info, but I can't tell you. After all, you could be one of them. A Controller. Beware of the Yeerks.
