The Past
Chapter 1
My name is Alexia. I can’t exactly say my last name. It’s too confidential. Yeah yeah yeah, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that I’m just embarrassed of it or something. Actually, I’m not embarrassed of it at all. It’s just that my friends and I are on the ten most wanted list and don’t exactly want to be found.
If we are found, we will either be killed or much worse. Become controllers. That’s right, have our minds taken over by some slimy alien slug called a Yeerk. Earth is under a silent attack so no one fights back. Yeerks crawl through your ear and wrap themselves around your brain. Once you have a Yeerk in your ear, you might as well say goodbye to having control over yourself. The Yeerk just takes over. If you have an itch, you don’t scratch it unless the Yeerk does it for you. Your memory is like a videotape that it can play whenever it wants. You have no secrets from it. The worst part? You don’t know who is a controller. Controllers look normal, their voice is normal, and they walk normally. I just recently became one of the 6 that are fighting against the Yeerk Empire. I’m not human.
I’m from a race called Goltans, we used to be the bad guys. Natural enemies to the Andalites. The main aliens that are trying to stop the Yeerks. My ancestors stole Andalite technology, which made them the enemies. My parents are Yeerks; well, controllers. They are still on my home planet, Goltaq. Before they became controllers, they sent me down to Earth to keep away from the Yeerks. My parents now are real humans. As for as I know, they aren’t controllers.
It was just another normal day at school. If you could call school normal. You’d think that the school board members were controllers making kids get up at 5:30 A.M. to start school at 6:30 A.M. I walked into the science class and sat down in the back of the room next to Marco and Rachel.
“Hey, anything new?” I asked, trying to be normal. You see, since we don’t know who is a controller we have to be careful with what we say. Rachel nodded.
“Yeah, Tobias found out that they closed that new pool. Can you believe it?” She meant the entrance to the Yeerk pool that we found. The Yeerks had made it so there was a way to get a hologram underwater to get to the Yeerk pool. Yeerks need nutrients every three days to stay alive. They soak the rays of their homesun by swimming through the pool. They have a miniature sun called a Kandrona. Before I became an Animorph, the others (Aximili, Rachel, Marco, Jake, Cassie, and Tobias) destroyed one. They shoved it out a building window.
“Hmm, well, it wasn’t so great anyway. There was always so much dirt at the bottom of it.” I commented nodding.
“We know what you mean by ‘dirt’” Marco grunted. Rachel rolled her eyes and started working on her paper. That’s when we heard the dreaded thought speak.
Marco, Rachel, and I exchanged looks. We were going into another big problem.
Chapter 2
As soon as the bell rang, we were outta there. We got Cassie and Jake from their lockers and ran them out. Marco was complaining about how insane everything was going to turn out and Jake was wondering what was going on.
We got behind some dumpsters behind the school and took our outer clothing off. You see, we had to wear skintight morphing suits when we morph. Otherwise we morph right out of it. And that’s a problem when we demorph. So we put our outer clothing into our backpacks and started morphing bird morphs. I started my eagle morph.
The first thing that happened was the change of my feet. Which was really disgusting. You can never predict what will happen first when morphing. Sometimes it the shrinking, growing, molding of the bones, or maybe the fur or feathers. I’ve only acquired a few animals. The eagle, a leopard, a fly, a roach (which I think is utterly disgusting) and a black kitten from a petshop.
Once we were all done morphing, we took off towards the local museum. As we got closer, we saw a limo parked outside. There were a few men with guns standing guard outside.
Marco asked. We flew down to the side of the museum and demorphed. There was a problem to demorphing. We can’t morph shoes. So we were in not-so-normal clothing and no shoes.
“No thanks, Marco, I just want to see what this is about here.” Jake said, a bit frustrated. We decided not to remorph since it would take too much energy. Morphing repeatedly is like getting up at 4:00 in the morning to run the 100 meter-dash then do five laps in the pool. It isn’t exactly the thing you want to do all the time.
“Well, let’s do it.” Rachel quoted. Each time before a battle she is always the first one to want to fight.
“You never learn do you?” Marco asked, already knowing the question. I don’t know how we did it, but the guards didn’t seem to notice seven kids walk past with no shoes or normal clothing. Ax was in his human morph along with Tobias. We got inside and walked over to the mummy exhibit. Where supposedly Visser Three was going to make a new Yeerk Pool entrance. We got maybe five feet away from one of the old tombs when we heard his voice. Visser Three. The leader of the Yeerk invasion of Earth.
“I want this entire museum to be one big entrance to the Yeerk Pool. It must be done by this time next week. We will be getting plenty of new hosts when people come to see the real mummy cave exhibit. They won’t know that they are on their way to a new life.” He laughed, thinking it was the best plan ever. Ax had hatred boiling up inside him. I could tell be the look in his eyes. I knew that look. It used to be for me. But he’s excepted me now. I’m one of the good guys along with him and the others.
A Hork-Bajir came up to Visser Three and said something I didn’t understand. Visser Three’s eyes grew wide and his face turned red.
“Everyone! Search the building now! The Andalite bandits are here! They are going to destroy my plan!” He commanded. He though we were a bunch of Andalite bandits since we had the morphing power.
A human-controller with a dracon beam ran over to the front desk where people paid to get in. I ran over there without anyone noticing.
“Yo! Dude! Person! Whatever you are! Look over here!” I shouted, the man behind the counter looked up at me. “Yeah you, come over here!” He looked around first, then walked towards me. I pointed at him and sent some kind of electrical shock at him. He went running off screaming with his hand gone and his arm disappearing. “Cool,” I said, Cassie ran over to me.
“What do you think you’re doing?! We’re gonna get caught. We gotta either morph or get out of here. Now!” She grabbed my arm and pulled me back to the others. Ax looked at me.
“That was not a very smart thing to do.” Then he looked at Jake. “Prince Jake, is that a normal thing to do with humans? Get someone’s attention and then hurt them?” Jake rolled his eyes.
“Don’t call me Prince. And no it’s not.”
“Yes Prince Jake.”
“Whatever, battle morphs. Now, be careful of the exhibits.” Jake ordered. We morphed as fast as we could. I was ready, it would be maybe my third time fighting. Once we were all finished, we ran towards the controllers.
“ANDALITES!” Screamed a human-controller and ran off, leaving the dracon beam behind. Marco picked it up since his gorilla morph was the only one capable of doing so.
He asked, holding up the gun for ax to see.
Ax responded, back in his Andalite form. Marco nodded and moved the switch down the maximum power.
he aimed it at a pillar above a bunch of Hork-Bajir and Visser Three and fired. The next thing I knew, I was unconscious.
Chapter 3
I woke up again in some room. I sat up on the bed and looked around. I didn’t recognize anything. Had I died? Had everyone died when Marco fired the dracon beam? I stood up and looked around the room. There were no windows, but there was a door on the far side of the room. I walked over to it and reached to open it.
“Hey, we were looking for you.” I jumped at least a foot high when Jake and Rachel stepped through the door.
“Hey, nice room. Better than the one I was in. I think I was in 3rd class.” Marco said as he walked in.
“3rd class? What do you mean? Where are we?” I asked, frustrated. I always seemed to be either confused or frustrated.
“Sario Rip. It’s happened to us before you came. We were blown back in time from an explosion. I think it happened again when Marco shot the dracon beam. I think we’re on Titanic.” Rachel explained. I stood there with my mouth open wide. I couldn’t believe it. The Titanic? The one that sunk about eighty-something years ago?
“Waitaminute, what day is it?” I demanded.
“It was Sunday before we got blown back. Why?” Marco said, confused.
“Oh no! It can’t be! Titanic sunk on Sunday! If we went back in time would the days change or anything?” I asked.
“Uh oh . . . I'm not sure. Last time I think they stayed the same. If they did . . ." Jake let the answer hang. He knew what would happen if we didn't get back to our own time. And soon.
