Inserts

This is a low cost way to customize your tires. somthing i played around with today and think it will help my tires last longer.

This is fun foam, you can get this at any creative hobby store. i found mine a hobby lobby.

It comes in any color, its a 12X12" sheet and cost about $2., i used the stock HPI insert as a guide for length and width.

Here you can see how soft the stock foam is, for hight bite tracks this will let the tire roll and cause problems.

Here you can see that this fun foam isnt as soft. i feel this is what you want. notice the thickness i use 2 pieces (ill explain why)

If you notice how the wheels is designed its high on the sides and low in the center. costum cut the foam for a perfect fit.

This is where the thickness of the foam comes in handy. use the stock foam as a guide to cut the foam. use the same length but i make the top one just a bit wider (ill explain why later)

Cut the first section so that it fits into the low section on the wheel this is like a filler.

This is where you want the top section a little wider, this will hold the side wall up and keep the roll down.***also** not where the sections join. the first section of fun foam you want at the north and the second section (wide section) you want the joint at the south. this could help balence.

Here you can see after the tire is installed. compair the 2. The stock foam gives a round high spot in the center. the fun foam gives a flater section in the center.

Here you can see by pushing on the side that the foam gives and lets the tire roll.

Here you can see that with the fun foam the tire holds it shape better giving consistant bite. a better contact area.

And this is why you dont want a soft foam insert. the tire rolls and then wears uneven. this is the area that will eventualy wearout and rip. the rest of the tire is still in good shape.

I dont use any glue other than the jet glue to mount the tires to the wheels. glue tends to clump so using this on the foam could hinder performance. the clumps would cause wheel hop it would throw the tire out of round.
