One of the most effective ways to destroy and create somthing new is to have a volcano. These events bear a striking resemblance to A Niall Doherty house party where the house gets destroyed then recreated, but only on a much greater scale.
You may (or may not) want to make your very own volcano at home. There are a few ways in which this can be achieved. Before you start you need to collect a few basic materials, these are a big spherical thing with a hard bit on the outside and a 1% melted layer just below it. You need to make sure the hard bit is split into a series of big plates, about 10 major ones is fine, and that these plates move around by being pushed by the not so hard stuff coming to the surface at divergance zones, and the weight of the plates pulling themselves downward if they slide underneath another plate at a convergant zone. Once you have all this you have the potential to make three types of volcano. The first oppertunity comes at divergant zones, when the not so hard stuff reaches the surface it is at the same temperature that it was below, but at a far less pressure, so it melts and comes spuming out onto the top of the hard stuff. Most volcanoes on earth occur in this way, but most are under water. Iceland is a land example of this volcano type. The second thing that you can do is to have one on a convergant zone, I think that these ones are far better as they throw tonnes of stuff all over the place. The mechanism for this is when the plate sinks down into the not so hard stuff it gives up its salts, etc. These get into the not so hard stuff changing its composition. It dosn`t like this and shows it by melting then proceeding to erupt out through the hard stuff making a big mess. An example of this is Mt Vezuvious, and just look at the mess that that made. These two are the easiest to make as they don`t require any extra heat, but if you can add some heat focus it on a point in the middle of one of your plates. If you have water on top of your hard stuff then it looks better if you make the focus somewhere under the water. Increase the temperature from about 1300 degrees centigrade to about 1500 degrees centigrade and you will cause the not so hard stuff to melt. If its in a marine setting this will give you a nice island, like Hawii, if not then you will get a plain old (well new) hill. Either way the not so hard stuff will come flying out the top of your new structure. Please wear the appropriate protective clothing while constructing your volcano.
My favorite volcano is Krakatoa, the master disatster. It was absolutly hard a a bastard destroying everything for miles around. It is situated in Indonesia, and the sound could be heard in Australia. Wave patterns were effected as far away as the english channel, and to cap it all off now another volcano, Anak (the son of Krakatoa), is growing in its place. To find out more about Krakatoa see the link below.
