Rachel Dunne, played by Clare Wren, was the second house keeper of the riders at the express station in Sweetwater and in Rock Creek.
Rachel appeared on the show at the beginning of the second season when Emma left Sweetwater with Sam and the station was in search of a new housekeeper. The riders could no longer stomach Jimmy's cooking, and so they found Rachel. Of course all of the boys thought she was a pleasant addition to the station, but she had problems with Lou at first. Lou didn't like Rachel at all because she was a tad bit flashy, and she was really heart-broken to see Emma leave. But after Lou learned that Rachel knew she was a girl, they had a big heart-to-heart and settled their differences. After that, they became good friends and Rachel did what she could to get Kid and Lou moving in the right direction with their relationship.
Rachel, too, had a bit of a troublesome past. She was married and expecting a child when her husband was killed. She went after the men responsible for her husband's murder and killed one of the men. She was jailed for murder and was sentenced to hang. She escaped and found herself in Sweetwater, and took the job at the station.
Later this past would come back to haunt her as the riders discover that Rachel is wanted for murder. But since they have already grown attached to her, they help her out and Kid and Lou help her clear her name.
As time goes by, Rachel grows accustomed to her new job, but as different men come into her life, she realizes that she can't return to the past and fall for men who treated her like her first husband. She really enjoys her job with the riders and she stays with them until the end.
Rachel proves to be more useful than just a housekeeper. She also cares for the riders and takes on the task of "raising" them after Emma leaves. She uses what life has taught her to get the riders out of some sticky situations. For instance, when Noah was kidnapped and nearly sold into slavery, she gambled to win back his silver saddle. Not only that, but when Jesse comes around, she spends most of her time with him for she feels he needs more mothering than the other riders and she wants to teach him how live a proper life, although all of her teaching and caring doesn't pay off in the end.
Again, it is uncertain what may have happened to Rachel after the end of the series. Hopefully she finally settled down with the right man and had a good life. But we do know that she proved able to take care of herself. She was a strong person, and in a time of confusion such as this was, it often proved to be the best virtue.
