I saw this on The Anti Hate Page and I felt compelled to write a response to it. My comments, as usual, are in red. If you're not in the mood for listening to a big rant, feel free to check out some other part of the site.
1. There isn't a single person out there that has the right or ability to decide what posseses or lacks artistic merit. So what exactly are you saying here? People aren't allowed to have opinions? No one has the right to say they think a certain type of music sucks? Puh-leeze.
2. The people who are so militantly "anti," are usually the same kids who got made fun of in High School. They have no idea what it even is that they're really into; they just have some need to be 'alternative,' for alternative's sake. I have yet to meet a webmaster/mistress of an anti site that fits this description. Also, so what if someone got made fun of in high school? What does that have to do with the way the person acts today? (Btw, I don't consider myself alternative; if anything, I prefer classic rock to any other type of music.)
3. That "I only hate commercial hip-hop," isn't an acceptable excuse. Again, what the hell do you think you are? People who express an opinion on a certain type of music think they are people with a right to their opinion. Haven't you heard of the 1st Amendment? As if they have ANY right to say what's good music, let alone based on the number of records sold? Um, yes, they DO have a right to say what's they think is good. They don't have to make everybody else stop listening to music they dislike, or make everyone like the same music they like, but they can criticize all they like.
4.If someone made an "I Hate Goth Music," page, they would be screaming louder than anybody, yet they hide behind the First Amendment. Wrong again. What you fail to realize is that most owners of anti-sites a)are not Goths and b)would probably laugh their asses off at a page like that. I know I laugh at the anti-Celine Dion, anti-Star Trek, and anti-Beatles pages. Well, first off, the First Amendment isn't permission for ignorance. Then why are you allowed to have a site? Secondly, it also gives me the right to call you a bitter, anti-social, misfit of society... LOL!! Well, the 1st Amendment also gives me the right to call you a hypocritical party pooper with no sense of humor. Oh, and if anti-site owners are all those things you say, how do we manage to go to school, have friends, have boyfriends/girlfriends, hold down jobs, and do dozens of other things besides run our sites?
5.For all you extreme Pop bashing, MTV hating kids who think that you are SO hardcore, lets take a second to think. Something you should try more often. Are you 14 and almost all of the bands that you know get MTV or pop radio play? Them shut up.And my answer to that question is a resounding "no." Guess I can rant all I want then, woohoo! Pop is short for POP-ULAR. Anything that is Popular is POP MUSIC. Duh. Your point being? I don't care. I listen to what I like. So do I. I'm no fan of boy/girl bands,At least you've got some good sense. :-) but MTV is a channel on basic cable! Why do you care so much about what they play? Cuz it annoys the hell out of me. Why do you care so much about my website and sites like it? Basically, I'd rather little kids listen to that kind of music...the more they buy the kind of music I like, the more it has to be censored. No thanks. 1. People are going to censor music anyway, no matter who they think the target audience is. 2. How do you know younger people don't like the music you like?
6. Music doesn't matter! Why on earth would you choose your clothes, slang or god help us, friends based on their preferred musical genre?Uh, where the hell did this come from? I don't choose my friends based on things like that, and if you do, I feel very sorry for you! Some of my best friends listen to country, which I absolutely cannot stand. If you are so ignorant as to believe anti-site owners actually behave this way, then you need to open your eyes. Do what you want because you want to do it! I do. You're talking to the wrong people here, girly. Anti-site owners tend to be nonconformists themselves. It's time to bring a little unity into our culture as the youth of the world. Hello? Where the hell have you been? The youth of today all dress alike, look alike, and seem to like the same music. I don't know how things are on your planet, but the people on my campus seem to practically be the same person - similar clothes, similar haircuts, similar interests. It's kinda scary.
What really pisses me off about this girl is that she complains about people who denounce the morals in gangsta rap, saying, "Until you prove to me that you never did anything wrong, I don't want a speech on morals from you." Well Corrine, until you can prove to me that you have never said to anyone that a certain song/artist sucks, I don't want to hear any anti-bashing from you. Sound fair? I think so.
