The Ghost in the Darkness is based on the true story of the man-eaters of Tsavo. in 1898 John Henry Patterson was employed to build a bridge across the Tsavo river in what is today Kenya, Africa. Two male lions were killing the workers in large numbers and were given the name "the ghost" and "the darkness" by natives who thought the lions to be ghost on dead medicine men come back to haunt them. John Patterson killed the lions after they had stalked the village of Tsavo for 9 months leaving a total of about 140 dead.
