My Grandma, Elma Hazel DROWN was born a KIRKWOOD. She was the only daughter of Robert James Kirkwood and Minnie Belle GIBSON. She was born Jan. 25 1906 in Kingsville, TX. She had four older brothers, Matthew Albert, Lester James, Cecil E., and Melvin Claire. She also had one younger brother Maurice Raymond. Elma married Clarence Carlisle Drown and they had four children, Clara Loiuse, Allen Carlisle, Myrla Belle and Arlyn LeRoy. Only the first two lived to adulthood. She died May 26, 1989 in Syracuse, KS, and was buried in Natoma, KS.

Robert James Kirkwood was the son of Matthew Kirkwood and Janet (Jessie) CRAIG. He was born around 1859 probably in Randolph County Illinois. He had three siblings, Maggie, Will, and Mary. He married Minnie Belle Gibson around 1890. He died in 1944 and was buried at Natoma, KS.

Matthew Kirkwood was the son of John Kirkwood and Margaret STEVENSON. He was born Oct. 10, 1827 in West Arthurlie, Nielston Parish, Scotland. He had six older siblings, Janet, William, Ann, Robert, John, and Robert. (Yes you are seeing right. I figure that the first Robert must have died young and so they named another Robert.) Matthew married "Jessie" Craig on April 2, 1857 in Chester, Illinois. He died June 29, 1909 and was buried in Beulah, KS.

John Kirkwood was the son of William Kirkwood and Ann WATSON. He was born Nov. 7, 1782 in Paisley, Scotland. His marriage to Margaret Stevenson was proclaimed April 16, 1813. He died April 29, 1861 and was buried at Hill Prairie Cemetery northwest of Sparta, Illinois.
