PASSENGER MANIFEST
Ships Arriving in New York 11 April 1910
Extracted from LDS microlfilm #1400133
during Nov. 1999 by Janet Laubhan Flickinger, 314 E. Irene St., Salina,
KS 67401
This is a list of Germans from Russia extracted from LDS
microlfilm roll #1400133 Nov. 1999. This manifest is one of those good
ones that lists physical description, amt of money in their possession,
place of birth, previous residence, but more importantly the names
of nearest relative in the "old country"
and the US and sometimes complete addresses of the relative in the
US. Names that are followed by an asterisk (*),
will have misc. information at the
bottom of the page. The one distrubing thing about this ship was that
the "relationship" to the person listed in the "old country" was missing
and below
each of those "old country" names was two words that appeared to be
"govn." and then a variety. I assume that it identified the area
that the relative
lived rather then the usual village listed.
SS Russia leaving Libau on 29 Mar.

* Ferdinand Laubhan 9-29, listed
Jacob Laubhan in Scherbanov, Russia (that should be Shcherbakovka,
Russia) as his closest relative.
Heinrich Werth 9-30, listed Katherina Werth (and since he was listed
as marriaged, presumably his wife). They came from different villages,
but both showed their destination as Torrington, CT and the sponsor
there was the same (listed as a cousin to Heinrich and friend to Ferdinand).
Ferdinand was my great-uncle and very elusive in his immigration.
It took at least 5 rolls of microfilm to find him. If by this time,
I didn't know
pretty much for sure that he would be on this ship, I would have missed
him as he did NOT profess to be German from Russia. Most Ger-Rus
are very proud of that fact, but for some reason that I will never
know, he registered as Russian, from Russia. I also found it questionable
that
he was destined for CT. I expected KS or NE or OK. I feel
like, for whatever reason, he "buddied up" with the man registered below
him
and just gave the same info that he did.
