Late one evening I found myself, as I am occasionally wont to do, embarking on a voyage to Nostalgia City. The drive was rather long but a pleasant one as I gazed at the falling leaves along David Cassidy Boulevard, which as you may know, becomes Shaun Cassidy Avenue just past the old bridge. Soon I was meandering up Leif Garrett Way and down Donny Osmond Drive until I eventually found myself at the Menudo Pedestrian Mall at the south end of The New Kids On The Block.
I was stopped in the left turn lane, humming a little ditty and waiting for the light to change when I spotted Bobby Sherman a short distance ahead. He was "Waiting At The Bus Stop" with "Jennifer" but it was clear from his far off expression that he was still trying to figure out a way to ask "Julie Do You Love Me?" Everyone who knew him knew he was still hoping they would be "Getting Together". If they don't, and I'm not even sure that they should, he probably "Blame It On The Pony Express".
I can just hear him now:
"It's been awhile since you left St.Joe
And still I tell myself
You gotta feel the same way
I'll get a letter very soon I know
So I call in each day
To ask about the relay
And they say . . . .
'There's nothing I can do
If it don't come through
Blame it on the Pony Express
There's nothing I can say
If it goes astray
Blame it on the Pony Express'
I only pray that the long delay
Doesn't mean I've lost
The heart I had a claim on
But if it stays on a homeward trail
I know there's gonna be
A letter with my name on
How can I go on?
Cherokee, Pawnee, any old Indian
It's such a long way
From St. Joe to Sacramento
I'm trying not to worry
But my heart is in a hurry
So ride just as fast as you can!
'Well, there's nothing I can do
If it don't come through
Just blame it on the Pony Express
I said there's nothing I can say
If it goes astray
Why don't I blame it on the Pony Express?
I'm gonna blame it on the Pony Express!"

Yeah, that's what Bobby would say alright. It's sad really. . . .
Author's Notes:
"Blame It On The Pony Express" was a song written by Tony Macauley, Roger Cook & Roger Greenaway. It was recorded by Bobby Sherman as part of the 1971 Metromedia Records album "Getting Together" which also includes the songs "getting Together", "Jennifer" & "Waiting At The Bus Stop".
"Julie Do You Love Me" was another, earlier hit by this singer/actor.
