I hold a Master's degree in English from the University of North Texas, and
my area of concentration in my current studies is 18th century British literature.
I began work on my Ph.D. in the fall of 2000 at the University of Southern California.
I was born in Connecticut and I've also lived in Kansas, but I spent most of my life -- over twenty years -- in Texas. I received my B.A. from the University of North Texas.
I'm a certified public school teacher, as I hold a teaching certificate
in secondary level English. In my work to earn the certificate, I also
took all of the necessary courses required to teach English as a Second
Language, Art, and beginning-level Computer Science -- though I never
took the licensing exams for any of those areas.
Though this will be tough for many of my students to believe, I was also a licensed stockbroker. I earned my Series
7 and Series 63 licenses in 1996 in connection with my work at an
institutional brokerage in Dallas. I was hired at the brokerage because of my writing
skills, and in the course of my duties I wrote memos, letters, procedures
manuals, articles, and instructions. This, I believe, helps me to know
what employers expect of their employees' writing skills, so I hope to
use this knowledge to help my students get ready for the working world.
The photograph above shows my dog Eliza (on the right) with her best friend Dach. If you haven't yet heard me mention my dog, you will.
