Ah so I have piqued your curiousity with "making water",
*giggle* no,no not the potty-kind-a-water. Our gardening quest is
growing rather rapidly
the right side of our yard was looking manafique!
my slur on magnificent.
But, alas, the center and left side were, ummmmmmmm YUK
Digging out flower beds in the hot sun, in the middle of the day
has a rather strange effect on one's brain. Cheap, cheap...dig
cheap, cheap...dig some more oh man there's gotta be an easier way!!
Off I scrambled to the picnic table to get a over-all view of the yard.
With an ice-cold glass of water in one hand
and blisters on both hands something was alluding me.
Structural integrity, eye-pleasing form and function, that's it I'd gone mad!!
What do they call it?....dillusional, demented, disfunctional....
Water, I need water!!
Our first ornamental piece of concrete was a bird-bath to help attract
some birds to our yard. It worked. We have an awesome display of plummage
all year long. Bluebirds, cardinals, swallows, mourning doves and robins are
just a few that visit. Well now I kinda figured that if the birdies liked the
bird-bath what about a pond?? Hubby was enlisted again for his manly talents
digging with brute strength what did ya think I meant?
Neighbours watched as he dug - deeper and deeper until all they saw was dirt flying
and no wife in sight.....hmmmmmmmmmm kinda looks like a grave from their angle.
Our pond was installed on the "spur of the moment" theory. No
research, no planning, just dig and install. It was one of those preformed plastic ones from White Rose.
Once filled with water, we
decided to create "moving" water and our feeble attempt at a water-fall did the
trick. Since building a water-fall was
frustrating, you almost have to be an engineer to do it right, we headed
out in search of another concrete ornament. You know the kind...the little boy peeing type thing.
We found the perfect object of amusement & delight,
no not the little boy peeing a
mermaid...that was less than perfect herself. She too, was cheap - only because
she was chipped here and her tail was plugged there. But we fell in love with
her and gave her a prominent position at the head of yet another pond.
Oh yah -- are we gardening now!!
We actually bought one of them there pond liners and yeeeeehaw we got us another pond.
2 ponds with
(I'm standing proud and tall, as tall as a perpetual aching back will permit)
a variety of plant life in our flower beds,
a variety of wild life and domesticated animal life
pooping in my gardens and still soooooooo much grass left to cut!
this pic
below shows our ponds with the arbour behind them.
and last but not least
showing our total back-yard from left to right taken the summer of '99
Nope I'm not done yet -- there's still the front yard!! But oi vey am I pooped
