II Job

The Devil asks God –
“Have you considered my many servants”…

I am sure most remember the story of God’s
challenge to Satan – “Have you considered
My servant Job?” Well, today I reflect on
what could be Satan’s witty comeback…

Satan might well ask God –
“Have You considered the multitude of
my faithful servants?” Among the
‘denominations’ of the devil’s congregation
you’ll find those who give all, quite
ambitiously, without regard for the consequences.

I’ve seen members of his congregation
gather daily for fellowship. They break
bread and drink of the cup as they enter
into a form of anti-communion. Not only
is their service daily, but for the zealous,
it can consume many hours every single day!

So God may well have asked –
“Can I strike your servants to test their
resolve?” Satan no doubt replied –
“Strike as many and as often as you like
– even take their lives if you want!”

So as a direct result of their
service to the devil many of the congregation
end up losing their jobs, their driver’s
licenses, their homes, their families,
and suffer a multitude of grave sicknesses.
Let every mouth drop open in utter
amazement– his ‘church’ does not weaken –
it grows!

Oh, I was going to name some of those
denominations – for they are most worthy of
recognition. Among them is the sect called
‘Alcoholics’, the ‘Drug Addicts’, the ‘Gamblers’,
and those of the order of 'Porn'… These
command some of the most faithful loyalty
my eyes have ever witnessed.

One last thought – WHY?

Why are common people compelled to
rise to such recklessness of service – to
lose all that they might attain one more
encounter with their god? Could it be,
because they do in fact have an encounter?…

Imagine if you will, that their ‘church’
actually met under the same circumstances
and conditions as the True God’s church
usually does? They would enter the club,
lounge, casino, or bar, meet and interact
with the bartender chiefly, but only from
afar – because of course they’d sit at
the back of the room. And instead of
actually partaking in a ‘real drink’ that has
a concrete effect, the bartender would only
speak long and passionately about the idea of
such a drink’s existence…

Lord, please grant us Yourself
we want to have daily fellowship,
in a real and concrete encounter!
For Your own name’s sake, let us partake
in You – in reckless abandon, the way the
devil’s children do. Let us become
overwhelmed and lost in a stupor of
Your presence where all of our
‘natural priorities’ are turned
upside down. We cannot possibly serve
You to the degree You deserve, when all
we get is facsimiles and placeboes.
Amen.
