(written by Michelle) Once again, Jade had won. About 5 minutes after the arguement over the bigger bedroom she had come running in from outside clutching her stomach. Jade had puked her guts out for about 5 minutes and then collapsed onto Jess's bed, refusing to move. Jess, feeling sorry for her, let her have the room. One good thing about Jess's move was that she wouldn't have to clean up the mess that Jade had made in the bathroom. Realizing she wasn't going to get any sleep and seeing the unbelievably large task of fitting all of the items she had brought with her into the smaller bedroom, Jess grabbed the largest suitcase and took off down the hall.
Unlike her room back at home, the door to this bedroom opened easily. Inside the room was visibly smaller, but there was one thing about this room that Jade's larger room didn't contain. Right in front of where Jess stood was a sliding glass door opening out to a balcony, which revealed their backyard and part of their neighbor's. Jess opened thedoor, after much difficulty, and stepped out onto the rickety old balcony. Their yard looked beautiful from up there and from her vantage point she could see a little blonde haired child in the next yard. He was playing catch with an older version of himself, Jess guessed it was either his father, although the older version looked a little too young for children, or an older brother.
Together, the two played catch for a few minutes until the younger one missed and had to run after the fleeting ball. When the younger one was gone another man stepped into Jess's field of vision. This new man looked a few years older, but shorter, than the taller blonde. Jess watched as the two playfully punched each other and when the short one came back, abandoned their game and went to the basketball court. Jess continued to watched a little while longer until she heard the balcony begin to creak beneath her weight. Fearing what a fall would insue, she left the warm sunlight and went back to the task of unpacking at least one of her suitcases.
"Jess, come on I want to take a walk and see what the neighborhood looks like," Jade called up the stairs to her friend. It had been two hours since Jess first started unpacking and she was just about done. It seems as if whatever was bothering Jade earlier is gone, Jess thought as she hung up a picture of herself and Jade taken right before they graduated from college together. Satisfied that she had finished everything she set out to do, Jess took one look at herself in the mirror. The reflection staring back at her was one of a more mature self. Jess had done so much growing up in the year since graduation that a lot of her old friends wouldn't recognize her. She highlighted her hair blonde, didn't wear any make-up anymore, and was reverting back to her tomboy ways. Even today she was wearing a t-shirt and jeans, which had become her ritual attire lately. But Jess was becoming bored with her image and tonight at supper she would ask for Jade's help in changing her style.
"Come on Jess, let's go!!" Jade yelled again, the impatience in her voice becoming clear. Jess ran down the steps, while pulling her hair into a ponytail, only to crash into her awaiting friend. The two became a jumble of failing arms and legs as they landed onto the carpet with a loud thud. "Sorry Jade, are you okay?" Jess asked, helping her friend to her feet. "Yeah, I guess so, why don't you watch were you're going?" Jade asked, rubbing the forming bruise on her forehead. "Next time, don't rush me." Jade was just about to comment when there was a knock at the door. Both girls just stood there and stared at each other. Neither of them knew anyone here, so who could be knocking? They stood there trembling with fear as they watched the doorknob begin to turn slowly.
