Chapter 12

(written by Lacy)

"We're not home!" Jade yelled, running into the kitchen and diving behind the island that took up the center of the floor. "Yeah, nice diversion, Jade," Jess muttered under her breath while grabbing the door handle and opening it the rest of the way. "Oh, I thought you weren't home," said the tall blonde guy who stood infront of Jess with a smirk on his face. "You'll have to excuse my friend, she's a little insane," Jess said, looking at the guy with keen interest. Something about him struck a familiar cord in her. "I know the type. Hi, I'm Nick. And this hick standing behind me is Brian," he said, shaking Jess' hand and stepping to the side to reveal a shorter (but not THAT short) and older looking (but not THAT much older) guy with brownish-blonde wavy hair and a smile that could stop a herd of elephants from charging. Jess laughed at her own anachronism and shook their hands. Oh-my-God, Jess thought to herself, I thought they looked familier, they're the BSB!!!

Brian and Nick looked at each other as the revelation dawned on Jess. "Oh, I'm sorry, come in," she said, still getting over her initial shock. "Thanks," Brian said, throwing her a smile that she would later dream about. Where the Hell is Jade? Jess thought to herself while she escorted the boys into the den and asked them if they wanted anything to drink. As she entered the kitchen to grab 2 Pepsi's out of the refrigerator, she tripped over Jade, who was still crouched down behind the island. "Damn it, Jade!" Jess yelled as she landed on her butt, the cans of Pepsi landing on the hard-tiled floor and spinning inconsesently.

"Are you okay?" Nick and Brian asked, running into the kitchen, only to be hit in the face with flying sprays of Pepsi. "Jade!" Jess screamed, grabbing the cans out of her best friend's hands. "Well, I wasn't THAT thirsty," Nick joked, wiping his face off with the arm of his shirt. "Sorry, I thought they were murderers," Jade said, pulling herself up off from the floor to face her two victims. "Nope, defininely not murderers," she continued, throwing a paper towel at Brian and helping Jess up off the floor. "Murderers? You think I would invite murderers to sit in our den?" Jess asked, angry at Jade's stupidity. "Hey, I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking," Jade defended herself, smiling at the guys. "And you are?" Nick asked, taking obvious interest in her. "Jade," she said, offering her hand. Nick took it without hesitation and kissed it lightly. "I'm Nick," he said, not turning off his charm for a second. "And I'm Brian," Brian said, pushing his friend aside and shaking Jade's hand. Oh, great, Jess thought to herself, Jade has yet again caught the attention of every male in the room.

"Here, let me get you another Pepsi," Jade said, opening the 'fridge. "Just as long as you don't spray us with them," Nick said, taking the Pepsi from her. "Um, Jade, can I talk to you for a minute?" Jess asked, grabbing her friend's arm and pulling her toward the den. "Well I guess I don't have a choice," Jade said, telling the guys to have a seat in the den before closing the patio door.

"Isn't the sky beautiful tonight?" Jade asked, sitting down in one of the deck chairs that circled one of the 2 deck tables and looking up at her friend with interest. "Jade? Hello? Do you realize who we have sitting in our den right now?" Jess asked, shaking her best friend to make sure she was paying attention. "Yeah, Nick and Brian," Jade said nonchalently. "JUST Nick and Brian? Jade, you airhead, they're the Backstreet Boys!" Jess said, trying to keep her voice down. Jade gave Jess a hurtfull look and continued to stare up at the sky. Jess sighed and sat in the chair next to Jade, pulling it closer to her. "Okay, I'm sorry I called you and airhead. I didn't mean it," Jess said. Jade smiled at her and straightened in her chair. "I realized who they were when I heard Nick's voice in the doorway before you let them in," Jade said. "What?" Jess exclaimed, but again lowered her voice. "You knew the BSB were at out door and you continued to hide in the kitchen?" Jade laughed and stood up. "Oh, no you don't, you're not going anywhere until you explain," Jess said, grabbing Jade's wrist. "Will you calm down? My butt hurts from sitting on that damn hard-tiled floor, must you make me sit in the plastic chair, too?" Jade asked, shaking Jess' hand off and crossing her arms.

"C'mon, Jade!" Jess cried. Jade sighed and sat back down with a thud. "Yes, that's right, I knew who they were. So what?" Jade said. "So what? Jade, you love the Backstreet Boys just as much as I do, if not more. But you acted like they were just some common neighbor stopping by to welcome us to Orlando," Jess said. "Bingo," Jade said. "Jess, they ARE just some common neighbor stopping by to welcome us to Orlando. What did you think they were here for, to tell us about their undying love for us?" Jade joked. "They're human beings too, ya know."

"Okay, okay. But did you HAVE to spray Pepsi in their faces?" Jess asked. "I wanted to make an impression," Jade said, shrugging. Jess laughed at Jade's utter hypocracy and followed her back into the house.
