Chapter 14

(written by Lacy)

"Wake up Orlando, the day has come alive!" yelled the obnoxious deejay from Jade's radio alarm clock at 8:00 a.m. the next morning. "He's just too damn chipper," Jade mumbled, throwing her pillow at the clock and rolling over with a smile as she heard a *thump* as it hit the floor. "Jade, get up!" Jess' voice floated up from downstairs. "What the Hell is she doing up already?" Jade wondered out loud as she threw back the covers and drunkingly stood up beside her bed, only to fall back down again. "JADE!!!" Jess hollered again, this time from the bottom of the stairs. "I'm up, damn it!" Jade yelled back.

Jess rolled her eyes as she heard Jade's bathroom door slam shut. Jess knew Jade wasn't a morning person. In fact, Jess rarely had the guts to even wake Jade up in the morning because of her bad temper that had a tendancy to linger before she had her first cup of coffee. Well that's just too damn bad, Jess thought to herself as she turned on the coffee maker. She's gonna have to suffer for once in her life.

Jess made way as Jade walked into the kitchen with a move-before-I-kill-you look on her face. She grabbed a coffe cup and filled it to the brim. "Mmm, coffee," Jade said, collapsing into one of the stools that surrounded the center island. Jess just gave her a look and sat down across from her with her bowl of cereal.

"What time did you go to bed last night?" Jess asked, staring contently at the swirling Cheerios that surrounded her spoon as she shoved it into the bowl. "About that one time," Jade said, downing half the cup with one swig. "I'm serious. You knew you had to go into work today, why did you stay up so late?" Jess asked, looking at her friend as she downed the rest of the coffee and put her cup in the sink.

"You're always telling me not to drink that stuff so fast when it's hot, I should learn to listen to you," Jade said, drinking a glass of cold water, trying to soothe the pain from her burnt tongue. "You should listen to me more often on a lot of things," Jess said, deciding she wasn't hungry for soggy circles and throwing her Cheerios down the garbage disposal. "I wanna push the button!" Jade said, diving for the garbage disposal blade button on the wall above the sink. Jess tried to hold back the smile that was creeping onto her face, but gave up and laughed out loud at her friend's innocent childness. Jade always had some way to make Jess laugh, no matter what the concequences. That's one thing Jess loved about her best friend, she was very funny and always optimistic.

"About 4 this morning," Jade said, answering Jess' earlier question. "Four this morning?! Jade, you're gonna fall asleep on the first day of work!" Jess said. "No, I'm not," Jade said, throwing Jess a PopTart and walking into the hallway. "What do you mean, 'No, I'm not,'? Jade, you better not be--"Jess started. "Don't worry about me, okay?" Jade said, grabbing her coat and running out the front door, leaving Jess to wonder why her friend was acting so weird.

***Later That Day***

*Ding-dong*

"I'm coming!" Jess yelled, getting up from her very comfortable place on the couch she had made for herself where she had been watching MTV all day and heading towards the door. "Yes, can I hel--," Jess started, but stopped when she saw who was at the door. "Ya wanna finish that sentence?" Nick asked, laughter in his eyes as he stood there looking at her with Brian at his side. Jess cleared her throat uncomfortably. "Can I help you?" she asked, trying to ragain some composure. She was so glad she had decided to wear her nice khaki cargos today with the baby blue polo shirt.

"Is Jade home?" Nick asked, looking behind her hopefully. Figures, Jess thought to herself. "No," she said. "Today was her first day at work. She won't be home until about 5 tonight." "Oh, okay," Nick said, turning to leave. "Hey!" he yelled when Brian grabbed his arm. "Well, are you busy? We didn't really get a chance to talk to you last night, you disappeared so quickly," Brian said, giving Nick a dirty look. "Me?" Jess asked, taken aback. "Yes--no, no, I'm not doing anything," she said.

"Well, is that a yes or a no?" he asked again, smiling at her. How can anyone turn down a smile like that? she thought to herself as she smiled back. "No, I'm not busy," she said. "Well... can we come in?" Nick asked, looking at her funny. "Oh, yeah! Of course!" she said, stepping back and opening the door wider for them. "Thanks," Brian said, giving her another smile as he passed her.

Oh, God, he smells good, she thought to herself as she closed the door and followed them into the living room.........

***Three Hours Later***

"Honey, I'm home!" Jade yelled as she walked in the door with an armfull of books and a very unhappy look on her face. "I'm in the kitchen, Dear!" came a fake female's voice from the kitchen, followed by a chorus of laughter. "That's nice, but I'm in the hallway with a broken back here!" Jade yelled back as she teetered back and forth. "Zorro to the rescue!" came a now very deep voice as Brian jumped out from around the corner with a dishtowel as a cape, causing Jade to bend over laughing and drop all of her books. "Oh, shit!" she swore, bending over to pick them back up.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Brian said, bending down to help her. "Cute," Jade said as she got a whiff of him. "You smell like dirty clothes." "It's the dishcloth," he said, taking it off from his shoulders and tossing it back into the kitchen. "Sure it is, that's what they all say," she said, laughing. Brian stood up at the same time as she was bending down, and the books again fell from his hands and onto the floor. "Those are some very determined books," he said, laughing and looking down at her as she continued to crouch on the floor. "Need some help?" he asked, offering her his hand. "Why thank-you, my knight in shining armor," she said dramatically as he pulled her up from the floor.

"What was that noise?" Jess asked as her and Nick entered the hallway. Jade and Brian looked at each other with amused looks on their faces. "A huge dragon was chasing me up the sidewalk," Jade started. "Yeah, and I bravely slayed him with my sword and he fell dead onto the pavement," Brian continued. "He was so brave," Jade said, looking into Brian's eyes as he pulled her close to him. "Anything for my Princess," he said, putting his arms around her and moving his lips towards hers.

They both broke apart from each other, laughing hysterically and falling to the floor. "Very funny," Jess said, a smile creeping onto her face. "I thought you guys were actually gonna kiss there for a second," Nick said, shifting his feet uncomfortably. "Who said we weren't?" Jade asked, tears rolling down her cheeks from laughing so hard. "Yeah, we just got a look at your two's faces and couldn't help but busting up!" Brian said, trying to catch his breath. "Why did you have to interrupt our passionate moment?" he continued. Well, finally someone who can match Jade in her childish antics, Jess thought to herself with a smile.

"Yo, anybody home?" came a raspy voice as the front door that Brian and Jade were laying in front of started to open. "Yo, wassup Homey?" Jade yelled from her position on the floor of leaning on the door, and continued to laugh hysterically with Brian as the person on the other side of the door started pushing it, making Jade slide along the floor, causing her to laugh even harder. "No, nobody's home!" Brian yelled, joining Jade in the pleasure of blocking the front door.

"Yo, B-Rok, is that you, man?" came the voice again. "No, it's me, Zorro!" Brian yelled, making Jade laugh even harder (if possible). "Yep, that's him," another voice said. "Yo, Bri, get your fat ass out of the way before I have Kevin open the door FOR me," the raspy voice said. Brian didn't hesitate and immediantely jumped out of the way of the door. "Jade, you might wanna move," Nick said. "Wh-wha-huh?" she said, but didn't have time to do much of anything else. The door swung open forcefully and Jade flew into the wall as the rest of the BSB stood in the now open doorway.
