Chapter 27

(written by Michelle)

"Jade stop fussing over me, I'm fine," Jess said as Jade adjusted the pillows behind her head again. "I just want to make sure you're comfy," Jade said. "I'd be a lot more comfy if I could get some sleep," Jess replied, her eyelids drooping a little at that remark. "Alright, I'll let you get some sleep, I can see when I'm not wanted," Jade said, smiling as Jess began to snore lightly. Jess never belived she snored, even when Jade recorded her one night. She merely said that she breathes heavy, and that's what people hear. Jade smiled at the memory as she turned off the lights and headed downstairs.

Jade began pulling out the ingredients to make a salad to go with the spaghetti she was going to make for Jess and the guys tonight. Jade knew it wasn't going to make it up to Brian for almost killing his girlfriend, but it was the only thing she could think of to get him to talk to her again. For the past week that Jess had been home, Brian would come over to visit her and never even look at Jade, he blamed her for Jess's overdose. Everytime Jade tried to talk to him about it, he would make up an excuse and leave suddenly, never saying goodbye.

Jade knew that if she told Jess about it, Brian would talk to her faster than anything, but Jade didn't want to bother Jess with anything right now. Jess was still pretty weak and she got tired really easy lately, but the doctor had said that it was just a side effect and that it would take awhile for her to get back to full strength. Jes was worried though, they only had a few more weeks in Florida and then she would have to go back home and start her job. What kind of a trainer would she make if she could only work an hour or two and not do anything strenous? In order to get her body back faster than the doctor had anticipated, (he said a month or two), Jess developed a training program for herself, and tomorrow would be day one. She had to admit though, it was pretty strenuous, but Jess knew that if she didn't keep this job, life wouldn't be worth living.

Jade was cutting up the tomatoes for the sauce when she heard the front door open and close. "Nick, we told you the Nintendo is still broken and no, supper is not ready yet," Jade screamed. She was surprised to look up and see Kevin standing in the kitchen doorway, "Thanks but I don't like Nintendo, I prefer reading a good book," he said, crossing his arms. "Kevin, I'm sorry but I thought you were Nick," Jade answered, pushing a piece of stray hair behind her ear. "Do I look blond and stupid?" he asked. Jade stiffled a laugh and shot him a warning look.

"Hey, woah, sorry. I was just joking around," Kevin said, raising his hands in mock protest. "I know, Sherlock. Here, help me cut these tomatoes." Kevin dug into his job and soon Jade's special sauce was boiling away. "So what exactly do you put into this stuff anyways?" Kev asked. "If I told you I'd have to kill you," Jade said, smiling and holding up a spoon for him to taste. "That might not be so hard after all," came Brian's voice from the doorway. Jade dropped the spoon in surprise, "What's that supposed to mean?" she questioned.

"I think you know. Your supposed 'best friend' is laying upstairs in bed because you tried to kill her!" Brian shot an accusing glare at her. Jade could feel the tears as they began to slide down her face, she reached up to twirl her necklace when she realized that she had given it to Jess, "That's not true!!" she screamed. Kevin stepped between them and held up his hands to silence their threats, "That's enough. It's not anyone's fault about what happened Brian, and Jade we know you didn't intend for anything like this to happen."

"You WOULD say that. Just because you're in love with her doesn't mean you have to take her side, Kevin. You know as well as I do that it was no accident. Jade could have stopped Jess from taking those pills at anytime, but she didn't!!!" Brian's face had turned bright red and his finger that he was pointing at Jade began to fly madly around. Jade began to sob and the tears fell faster than before and her hand tried desperately to meet their speed. "Brian, get out of here now!" Kevin screamed.

"Fine, but this isn't over yet. I'll make sure that Jess knows the truth," and with that Brian's body disappeared up the steps. Kevin turned to look at Jade, who was trying desperately to control her sobs, he stepped closer to her and took her in his arms to calm her down. "Oh Kevin, I didn't do anything to hurt Jess, I would never do that,"Jade sobbed into his arms. "I know, Brian's just upset that he almost lost her before he had her. He didn't mean anything he said, believe me."

"He didn't mean anything?" "No Jade, not one word of what he said was true," Kev said, holding Jade at arms length so he could look her in the teyes. "Even the part where he said you loved me?" Jade asked. Kevin's face registered shock at that moment, he had forgotten that Brian had let the cat out of the bag, so to speak. Jade began to smile, "It's alright Kev, you don't have to answer that," she said, resuming her sauce making. "No Jade, I have to. It's about time you knew," he said, taking her hand. "Jade, I love you."
